Zazou Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
There were four of us and we all had different dishes. I loved my Thai shrimp salad (they also do it with chicken), my niece enjoyed the lamb bolognese, my cousin said the monk fish was quite good, but the Verde Risotto got only a fair review. Dessert was a different story. Everybody loved the bread pudding and the fruit with amazing creme. Delicious. Check the menu before you go just to make sure its to your liking.
This neighborhood spot is always good. We've never been disappointed here. My wife had the Lupe de Mar which was cooked with the skin on and perfect. The crunch skin is a nice offset to the tender fish. It was served with potatoes and caramelized/ stewed tomatoes that were outstanding. I had the poulet au poivre which is a great sauce on well cooked chicken. The fries were thin fries cooked and seasoned just right.
This is a great place for early dinner. Haven't been here for quite some time. Used to go to Cafe Pierre before it changed from French to Italian. This is the sister restaurant and is still French Cuisine. Had the Braised Short Rib, with Spinach and mashed potatoes. Believe short rib was braised in a Bordeaux reduction sauce. For desert had bread pudding with Carmel sauce. Many places overdo Carmel and it is way too sweet, not here! Perfect compliment to the pudding itself.
Only drawback is the place is small and can get a bit noisy and parking is street only, mostly metered but good news is meters go off at 6pm. Overall would recommend this if you want good French dining at decent (for French) prices.

This was a Yelp find and I am SO glad we went. The food was amazing and the drinks were very tasty. Had the short ribs and the hen (for two people), as well as the buffalo milk cheese and prosciutto appetizer. Absolutely delicious. Roughly $45 per person cost for a normal meal. They also do a $20 corkage fee if you want to BYOB.
I hadn't been to Zazou in awhile but it is exactly how I remembered it. Great food a little pricey but it's what is to be expected for that area. I liked that it wasn't that busy because it allowed my friend and I to talk without raising our voices. It can get very crowded and noisy on a weekend night there. The location is great so you can walk around after dinner. I know they have a nice wine list but we didn't have wine that evening. Try it! You won't regret it!
Zazou is an ok place, but nothing special. I haven't tried the other Italian restaurants in Riviera but I will do so before going back to Zazou. We walked in on a Friday night and it was not crowded at all which told me maybe others knew more than me. The service was good, prompt and attentive. I thought the food ($23-30 for pasta dishes) and drink ($9/beer) were overpriced. The food was ok, but pretty salty and certainly nothing special.
My Name is Susan Griffin and I had a reservation for 3 for 7:00 on Friday 2-6-2016
I have been coming to Zazou for years as I live in walking distance and my nephew and I were waiting for my Niece to join us who was running late.
While we waited we ordered an appetizer and I explained to the waitress that we were waiting for another person so no rush .
Once my Niece the third person arrived I assumed the waitress would start to pick up the pace but she didn't dinner took a long time to order and to get and then when she asked if we wanted dessert she handed us the menus then we sat for at least another 15 minutes when I finally had to approach her in the bar chit chatting with customers and asked for the check as we would not have desert because she never came back to our table to take our order.
It was a special occasion and the first time my nephew had been there, and then to top it off as she was giving me the 175.00 bill she asked if this was our first time to Zazou??
Why should that matter ??
We were very disappointed and it was probably the worst experience I have ever had there at Zazou.
It was busy and there was a party up stairs but I have been there plenty of times and not had such poor service.
This was the second time dining at Zazou and I wasn't disappointed again. I ordered the Monk fish and it was delicious. It was served with sautéed kale. The waitress was extremely helpful and prompt with the order. Myself and a friend ordered the Floating Island. EXCELLENT!!! Will definitely be back there numerous times.
We try to frequent the better rated restaurants of the South Bay -- from Riviera Village to North Manhattan Beach, and Zazou rates up there with the best of them. The last visit was the best: Seared Scallops with Roasted Cauliflower and Cauliflower Puree. The scallops were done to perfection and the puree greatly enhanced them for a new and astonishing taste experience.
Zazou is a definite favorite.
For the price of the "speciality" plates very disappointed! Ahi tar tar no flavor! Filet tasted plain! Maybe other dishes taste better, however very disappointed for a NYE meal! To top, the Manager did not allow us to bring in our speciality wine we saved for this special occasion! The wine was French and not on there wine list!! Not listed anywhere on there website or when we made reservations that outside wines would not be opened! Very disappointed! Not a special occasion place!!!!
Five of us made reservations for a 5 p.m dinner. There were only a few other diners at that hour and we had friendly, prompt service. In fact our dinners came out so quickly we had time to spare before heading for our 7:00 movie. Everyone loved their choices. One salmon, 3 lamb oso buccos and I had the wild boar paparadelle. All delicious and the lamb was so large it had to be taken home for a future meal. Zazou has amazing, light, delicious bread pudding and we ordered 2 servings to go which we enjoyed later with celebratory champagne.
First time at Zazou. Creative menu. More Italian inspired dishes than any other cuisine, but not a typical Italian place. I had mussels and sweetbreads. The mussels were plump and juicy, cooked right, but the sauce, while rich, was a bit bland (no real wine or anise or any other taste) yet, somehow, a tiny bit salty. Overall, a bit better than fair. The "crisp" sweetbreads were not crisp. The restaurant gets points for having them and doing the vegetables right, but "crisp" should be crisp and, again, the meat was a bit bland. The garlic bread was great, but the regular bread was way below par--that should never happen in a city with several very good bakeries. The service was inconsistent. When we were not ready to order and asked for a few minutes, the server disappeared for a long time, a very long time. Once we ordered, the service was better than good.
