Zazios Ratings and Reviews
Went on Valentine's day, had a 715 reservation, arrived at 7pm and was asked to wait in the bar area. By 730 still had not been seated and when we checked on our table they had given it away!! Finally got seated at 850. The food and service were great. They comped a drink for the inconvenience. The wait staff was friendly and handled the very busy evening real well.
This was our second year visiting Zazios during Restaurant Week. Both occasions were stellar! Food & wine selection have more options than other restaurant offerings. Celebrated birthday & remembrance of a good friend. Exciting Saturday night in Kalamazoo! We’ll be back.
We have enjoyed Zazios several times over the years and the food this time did not disappoint. It was the first night of restaurant week so very busy. Three of four of us ordered from the Prix Fixe menu. The waiter mentioned that the kitchen was a bit overwhelmed and that was apparently correct as were there over three hours, mostly waiting for our food. As we waited, the waiter became less and less attentive. I believe I saw him in the kitchen trying to assist the cook staff. When the food did arrive it was delicious. The presentation was a bit underwhelming, but the salad was fresh and the salmon was moist, not overcooked. The Tiramisu and Cheesecake were delicious!
Excellent restaurant, we had the calamari to start, and it was perfect! I've cooked professionally for a decade, so it is hard for me to be willing to spend a lot of money on simple items I could make easily myself. So I choose the lobster ravioli, and it was delicious. I eat a low sodium diet, and the cream sauce was salty to my taste; most people wouldn't think so. My wife had a buttered pasta dish, and that was also very good.
While we weren't drinking, they had an extensive wine list, and their mixed drink menu had several unusual offerings.
We had dined at Zazio's for our rehearsal dinner almost four years ago and loved everything about it. When we were looking for a place for our Christmas Eve dinner away from home, we were happy to see that Zazio's was actually open for the evening.
Unfortunately, the online menu was not current. I was all set to order the fettuccine which sounded from the description similar to carbonara, however that dish was not available. We fondly remembered how tasty the short ribs from our rehearsal dinner were and both hubby and I opted for them again tonight. We were sad that they were not nearly as good as we had remembered. First of all, the dish should be titled "short rib" rather than ribs (plural) because it was mostly a dish of mashed potatoes and a mountain of Brussels sprouts with one piece of beef. For $28, the serving of short ribs was sparse. Secondly, everything seemed to be heavily salted, to the point that I was even a bit thirsty. Hubby suggested that maybe a bit of balsamic glaze on the sprouts or a sauce of some sort on the beef would have counterbalanced the saltiness. Lastly, the truffle mashed potatoes had large chunks which were un-mashed.
We opted to return to our hotel room for homemade Christmas cookies for dessert instead of taking a chance.
Our group of 8 came here for our holiday party and did the Chef's table experience. It definitely exceeded my expectations! The food was amazing and caters to the crowd, even picky eaters will leave satisfied. The wine pairing was on point and the interaction with the chef made for a very fun experience. If you go, make sure to volunteer! Thank you for the wonderful time Zazios!
We reserved this at the request of our daughter and her husband to celebrate their first anniversary. Much thought went into having dinner at this restaurant, I included it in my reservation request and asked for a nice table. We were seated at what I would consider one of the least desirable tables. We were seated at the very first table from the entrance, our backs were up against an opening right into the hostess stand and it was for six people which was anything but special/intimate since we were only four people. There was also never any mention of the anniversary. Service was adequate, but nothing extraordinary.....orders were taken, items were delivered but there was nothing special or personal about the interaction. The atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion, as there is absolutely no warmth or anything special. The tables have no tablecloths, they are constructed of laminate and feel "cheap" for a restaurant that is advertised as being high-end and one appropriate for date night and/or special occasions. The food was fine, but nothing amazing and/or special. There are a lot of other options in the area and we will go elsewhere next time.
We had a wonderful dining experience. I had the special (halibut). It was savory and the perfect size portion. The drinks were scrumptious. It was fancy enough for a celebration, but not romantic enough for a very special occasion. We enjoyed watching the kitchen line. The noise level was perfect.
We have dined there several times when we vist Kalamazoo. This was the first time since the remodel. They have made it more causal and taken the regular 2 seat table by the Windows and made them bar tables small with talk chairs. The dress is very relaxed now. A new menu has introduced many new items. The service was we remembered. It was our anniversary and they brought a very nice desert for us. You can feel comfortable dress up or down. Food for the price is what you would expect. We eillvreturn again next time We are there. The decor while different still kept most of the charm as before.
Parking to get to restaurant was a hassle! Had to park on level 7 of close by ramp. Elevator was not functional so walked down many steps. Once in the Radisson the restaurant entrance was not visible. We actually walked out a back door and walked around the outside of the building until we saw an entrance in to the restaurant . Our parking ticket was not validated properly so we had to pay for the lousy parking after all. I recommend valet parking if available at front entrance of the Radisson if you're going to Zazios.
A very nice time! My wife & I had the pasta specials and they were wonderful! Our server was Nick and he was terrific as well. We sat on the patio, very nice but it's way to warm for the fire pit to be going and the noise from the pedestrian mall was a little too loud.
Several pasta dishes were available for only $12.00. My friend and I both had the spaghetti with shrimp and it was delicious. It was served with fresh bread. Three large, fresh shrimp topped the pasta and zucchini and we asked for and received extra grated cheese.
