Food and service were great. Unfortunately we found out while we were there that the restaurant was closing for good. It was disappointing to hear that as Zax was a go to place whenever we visited Austin
Was just ok. Definitely don't feel it is a good value. We got 2 burgers and 2 entree salads and it was over $60. The food was ok but the fries that came with the burgers weren't warm.
Blue cheese burger delicious and cooked as ordered. Loved the thin onion rings on top. Generous sized Greek salad cold and crisp was very good.
Boyfriend wanted to go before it closed. Good service but meh food.
So sad to see this place go!
Service was very slow on what appeared to be an average night. We had to ask for water refills multiple times, I never had the opportunity to order another glass of wine because the server was so absent. Food was ok, not bad but not noteworthy.
I went one last time with a friend before you closed (2x in a week for me)! Sooo sad! Please open up another Zax in a different area of Austin.... You would do awesome near Steiner Ranch!!
Dinner was fabulous, and our waitress Molly was super sweet! :)
We got seated right away thanks to open table. Hostess was very nice. The waitress was very nice and polite. The food was really good. I had the lasagna with a salad which was really good, my wife had the tuna salad that she loved. Great place to go in Austin for dinner. Traffic was a little hectic to get in and park but we managed. Place was clean and really comfortable. Will come here again next time we are in Austin.
It’s always good and the place is very pretty at night. Hard to beat, we’ll be back for sure
Excellent pre-theater dinner near the Long Center. The lamb entree and the ribeye special were very tasty, both perfectly cooked. It was hard not to lick the plate! We had to have dessert -the flourless chocolate cake was to-die-for... it was almost too rich to finish (almost!). The waiter was very good - friendly and attentive. We'll go back!
We enjoyed the ambiance and location was right across the street from the Long Center where we were attending the ballet so that was great. We were a few minutes late for our reservation due to traffic and they were happy to accommodate our party of 6. The food was good, not great but good. Our waiter was okay. We debated ordering dessert because of time restraints and our waiter assured us it would take no more than five minutes to get it. Well I’m not sure what his five minutes looks like but it definitely doesn’t look like my five minutes. Thankfully we weren’t late.... I would consider visiting here again if we attend another event in the area. It was nice to be able to carry on a conversation with members of our party and actually hear what they were saying.
Zax is pretty consistent and has a nice variety on the menu and decent wine list.
Not sure what was going on but every dish we ordered was not good. The ribeye (special) was pressed to the max and mostly fat. The salad was
Always outstanding food from great recipes. Very reasonable wines as well. Always a favorite stop for us when visiting ATX.
Zax is a great place to eat before enjoying the show at The Long Center. We had brunch there before attending the opera, and there were other diners there for the same purpose. Overall great dining experience.
We wanted a diverse menu and found it here! The menu has something for everyone. Service was wonderful! After a busy day exploring Austin, it was just what we needed!!
Great meal, very good service. Friendly atmosphere. Really enjoyed it!
Delightful server, excellent food, great location -- and parking!! A++
Mussels and polenta appetizers were delicious! Great variety on the menu to appeal to foodies, kids and elders. Service was good, meals were excellent and the restaurant was a bit quiet for a Friday evening . We had the scallops, evening special of black drum fish and crab louie salad paired with wine and cocktails. It was a very nice dinner and we enjoyed the evening at Zax.
Good food. We went here after watching the bats come out by the Congress Bridge. It was easy to get to and a lovely atmorsphere.
Absolutely. Unlike many of our favorite restaurants, Zax has become better and better with time. Everyone should come and keep the place full so there's no incentive to close this one remaining decent restaurant in the Auditorium area!
We held a 24th birthday party for our daughter with 12 adults and four children under five. Servers were great with getting beverages and kids food out. Our food was tasty. I had chicken sandwich. Beverages were refilled they did a nice job with her cake as well.
Everything was mediocre apart from the craft cocktails that were original and very good. Biggest turn off was that they started putting up the chairs in the dining room when customers where still eating, we felt like an inconvenience!!
Good quiet place for a bite to eat. Food is good, decent prices, excellent customer service.
A great find in Austin , outstanding service and cool vibe. Pizza and mimosas were fab .
We were looking for a restaurant that was close to the theater and had good food and it worked out well
I have eaten here several times over the years and the food has always been consistently good and reasonably priced. We were there for dinner on a Saturday night recently and the experience was not as I remembered. The restaurant was probably less than half full. The server was attentive, but the quality of the food seems to not be what it used to....most dishes were mediocre at best. I had the turkey burger, which was pretty good but I did have to ask for a new bun as the one that was originally served with my burger was hard as a rock on the edges. The second bun was soft. Two of my friends had a salad with grilled chicken...the chicken on both their salads was rubbery. When we told our server about this, he didn’t really apologize nor did he offer to bring something else instead, etc. Our calamari appetizer was pretty good. And our other friend had a burger that was good. The fries that came with the burgers were just ok...definitely nothing to write home about. There seemed to be some missteps when it came to food quality and the experience did not live up to past expectations.
Food was delicious and service was excellent. Server was very helpful explaining specials. Good specialty cocktail selection. Casual and fun atmosphere.
Excessively long wait to order and when we gently said we would like to order, he was defensive. And, I will not order the burger again.
I still enjoy this restaurant and will go again. The experience this week was not their finest hour.
Excellent food and outstanding customer service. Will definitely go back!
My food was wrong when delivered but they quickly remade and it was delicious.
Our dinner was amazing, service was quick, server was friendly, restaurant was clean. Doesn't get much better than that!
We used to go to Zax all the time. It has remained a place we are happy to visit. We are thankful for the many options, including gluten-free options, and many choices of alcoholic drinks.
We sure do miss the parking across the street, however.
Great food! Try it for sure. I had the calamari & a steak salad. Yummy!
Girls dinner before a show at the Long Center. Perfect and great prices
Andrew as our waiter was great. Daughter and I spent 3 great hours and look forward to returning soon.
Always so good!!
We stopped there for dinner in between shows at the Rollins Theater. Close to many attractions along the lake. The service was fast and friendly and the food was really good. We changed things up and tried different items on the menu, so glad we did. Great place for all occasions.
Seared ahi tuna is was fantastic; salad overdressed and soggy.
