Zambri's Ratings and Reviews
Ambiance was great, food was very good, wine list extensive, but the service was atrocious! Our server was either very new or having a very bad night. Either way, we were left alone the entire time after we placed our order; he didn't ever come around again to ask if we wanted more drinks (which we did), and didn't ask us how our food was (there was a mistake in my husband's order). His demeanour was cold and uptight. The next day, I wrote the manager to let them know about our experience and he sent me a personal message along with a gift card. That was nice.
My cappo tasted bitter. Regular coffee also. Too much dressing on my Cobb salad, should have asked for it on the side. As far as Cobb salads go, it wasn't great. The bacon was really really salty. Butter lettuce was pretty on the plate though, good presentation.
Amazing in every sense. We loved the modern but warm ambience and the food was absolutely fantastic. The wait staff were very helpful with working out which foods I could eat due to my unusual allergy so I felt confident and well cared for. Excellent excellent excellent
To do pasta well is a real treat and my simple lunch was first rate. The waitress was excellent and attentive without being "in your face" and I'll certainly recommend Zambri's to friends. The new venue is also very pleasing and a great improvement from the old one.
Zambri's is one of our favourite places for a superior lunch. My lunch-mates both had salads that looked as if they had come directly from the garden moments before being delivered to our table! Fresh and crisp, and not a chance of going hungry! I had the Minestrone with a sandwich that was as fresh and robust as I have had anywhere, but there is so much atmosphere here. One feels comfortable, professional, and very well looked after, without being pandered to. A delightful way to spend a working lunch.
This beautiful upbeat restaurant was wonderful We had a window table which was perfect . Started with crispy broccoli.. delicious. I had spaghetti putenesca and loved it. My Dining partner had pnene with ricotta and enjoyed as well. The ice cream with espresso was small but wonderful. I highly recommend this great Italian restaurant.
Zambri's never misses. The food, ambiance and service are terrific and without question, the best authentic Italian restaurant on the island. Tried the crispy fried broccoli as a starter and shared a few bites - WOW all around. Pasta is by far the most delicious and perfectly prepared you can find. We tried the special pasta for the evening with fresh tomatoes, savory and ricotta, the tagliatelle with meat ragu, and the sausage and broccoli pasta, and then finished up with the chocolate budino (shared it among three, but each of us secretly wished for our own!). If you're visiting Victoria, it's a 'must-do' and if you live in Victoria, it's probably already on the top of your 'favorites' list.
We've heard so much about Zambri's so were excited to finally dine there. When we entered we waited for awhile before someone finally came over to seat us. I thought it was rather small, no atmosphere, bare tables and the staff seemed quite frantic even though the restaurant was not filled with diners. The wine was superb; the meal - my partner had pasta and I the special which was rockfish - was good; the gelato which I think is made in house was excellent. Overall it was okay, however, we will not rush back.
We had the most amazing meal at Zambri's. Every dish was memorable, but it always is when we come here. We love to order a bunch of dishes and share them. It's a great way to try a range of dishes here, from antipasti to pasta to fish. On this occasion the four of us at the table shared eight dishes - that came in two rounds - and it felt like we were having an Italian-style family meal. Fantastic!
We have been coming to Zambri's for years now. Staff is always friendly and knowledgeable, food is consistently good, whether pasta and a glass of wine before a movie of birthday celebration with kids and family.
Last Thursday the pasta special was especially good. thanks!
We went for early dinner to Zambri's prior to seeing a movie. The service was excellent, great timing for our food. I wanted to order a salad with a filet of salmon on top, they were not able to accomodate this request. I order a tuna dish with mixed vegetables and they were not able to leave the cucumbers out. Besides not being able to meet my requests the food was very delicious. I would return.
We celebrated my friend's birthday, and we all left dinner smiling broadly, extremely content with our meals. I particularly enjoyed the roasted duck, as it was well prepared and presented. The roasted broccoli was excellent, an interesting but tasteful take on this type of vegetable. From start to finish, the service was good, and always friendly. We will be returning.
We had tried to eat at Zambri's once before but the wait was too long. This time we made reservations on Open Table, and requested a table by a window. When we arrived our table was ready. Unfortunately, they had us seated by the bustling wait station & smack beside a room divider -- probably the worst table. Considering that we hired a nanny for our 'special night out', this table was not suitable. We asked for one by the window, and after waiting at the bar for 30 minutes, we got one.
Our evening improved after that. We ordered the $3 bread -- a little annoying that Zambri's is 'nickel and dime-ing' guests for bread. I ordered beef tenderloin with blue cheese (excellent) and my husband had clams. Overall: great food, be prepared to wait.
How many different staff came to our table during the course of our meal? I completely lost track. There was the person who brought us to the table, the person who offered drinks, the person who took our order for dinner, the person who brought the appetizers, the person who brought the mains, and the person who finally brought the bill when our waiter failed to appear. Nobody came to ask how our meals were, or whether we wanted any fresh pepper etc. Unfortunately, poor service severely detracts from a delicious meal.
Food was beautifully plated and better yet, cooked to perfection. It is difficult to find restaurants that offer a truly low sodium dish and even more difficult to make it tasty but Zambris came through on both counts. Friendly waitress managed a difficult task extremely well -- timed service to coincide with least conversation interruption.
I went to Zambri's to complete an assignment for an Italian food and culture university class. I wasn't disappointed. I loved my Eggplant Parmigiana sandwich - it was so tender with crusty bread, and the tomato sauce and green leaf veggies were divine. But the highlight of my lunch was the Tiramisu! It was so sweet with cocoa, coffee, and cream, and I ate it very slowly to ensure that I enjoyed every bite! I would love to come back here again!
Zambri's is a beautiful, modern Italian restaurant with lots of big window space, where people can be seen. It's cool.
Overall great food and service. A few minor observations.
Great grilled bread to start with a small dish of olives. Would be better to provide olive oil and vinegar as well - maybe big wandering flasks. Charging for oil and vinegar isn't cool.
Tasty Caesar salad dressing with a nice touch to add garbanzo beans and olives. Greens could have been fresher, and as a result the salad was a bit drab.
One of the specials was a dish of papardelle with lamb ragout and bits of porc. It was delicious.
The waiter was friendly and attentive, and really seemed to like her job - wish she had prepared the caesar salad too.
Great overall experience, food was excellent, service was a little lacking with only 2 servers and a full restaurant even on a Tuesday night, waited 10 minutes for someone to take our drink order, and close to 30 minutes for our bill with empty drinks. The table that was seated next to us but was seated 5 minutes after we had arrived, received their drink order before anyone had even approached our table. But the overall atmosphere was enjoyable, would try it again, maybe for lunch or at a slower time.
The chefs must have forgotten that they are in a service industry. They will not accommodate special request. Swapping vegetables between dishes is not possible. They may delete something for no charge but will charge you full price for any additions. They brag that they are "Certified Italian" but never mention by who. Seems to me a marketing ploy. Pork tenderloin was char grilled and way over cooked. Leathery and chewy. Tomatoes and cauliflower puree is cauliflower with about 10 drops of tomato juice. Bread was not refilled. Pasta did not have enough sauce.
As always, the food at Zambri's was excellent, and the service attentive. I enjoy the restaurant more each time I go, and love trying new entrees. It has a relaxed atmosphere--the kind of place you can dress up for (if you are so inclined) or go casual. A wonderful spot for long weekend lunches or a special dinner. Highly recommended.
The food, service and atmosphere at Zambris are beautiful. However, short of eating pizza or appIes, the only dish on the menu for vegetarians was pasta with peas and Gorgonzola cream. It was tasty but a few bites in I came to the conclusion that it is really only glorified mac 'n cheese. With a chef like that they can do better. Looking forward to more vegetarian options!
While we know, from previous experience, that Peter Zambri is a top notch chef, alas most of our meal was ho hum! The appetizers were spectacular, but the gnocchi were pedestrian and the orange marsala sauce on the duck was aggressively sweet, drowning the flavour of the perfectly cooked duck.
Also the numerous hard surfaces amplified the noise level to the point my husband and I had to shout at each other to converse, although we have been married for nearly 30 years, we still enjoy talking to each other during meals.
Came back for a second try. I'd requested a quiet table in my online reservation & got the quietest table in the place! Wanted to try their home made pasta. Was told the spaghetti had green peppers which actually were jalepenos. Dish was a bit dry, very nice flavour but way too hot for my taste. Waitress offered another pasta dish which was ok. Spouse had the scallop dish wish he rated a 7 out of 10. Wine list has very dry whites & last visit I asked what they had on the less dry & sweeter side. There wasn't anything then but on this visit the waitress suggested the moscato which was on the dessert wine list that I hadn't seen. It was quite nice but a bit too sweet. Bread needs some dipping or spread than just a bowl of olives. Boring food
