Dinner was delicious and beyond our expectations. Strongly recommend the sesame salmon and the salted caramel mochi/fluffernut dessert. Only negative thing was the excessive amount of noise. Would definitely go back!
Great food! Good service, and nice ambiance
Amazing food, a bit pricey but delicious. Our server Peter was very helpful & friendly.
Loved the creative cocktails! And dessert was amazing. We loved our oysters 3 ways, but were a little disappointed in each of our choices for small bites and bites. I had the soft shell shrimp. They were 'okay' but the taste was nothing really special, except for the novelty of eating shrimp shells, which we did! Then I had the scallops on quinoa salad. The scallops were seared perfectly, but the salad didn't have much flavor. My husband ordered the halibut and grilled avocado. He felt they were 'good' but not amazing. I'd definitely recommend going back for drinks and dessert and I'd try it again for dinner. Maybe we just ordered wrong for our tastes. The atmosphere was wonderful and the wait staff very attentive.
The sushi at Zama was excellent, and they featured rolls with unique flavor combinations we’d never had anywhere else...and we’re frequent sushi-eaters. Be sure to try the truffle roll. The precise name escapes me, but ask for it and your server will know what you’re looking for. On that note, the service was excellent, and the staff was communicative, friendly, and knowledgeable. The ambiance was cool, but no better than average for Rittenhouse. We’ll definitely be back.
This has become my favorite Japanese restaurant in Philly. Great apps, shashimi, rolls and entrees. Always consistent with food and service! Any nigh/every night a home run!
Food usually good but the pace of food service is bizarre.
The only sushi place I have ever been to where the food consistently comes out either too fast or too slow, they seem to have no idea how to pace a meal and every time we go the sushi seems to come out very slowly whether the restaurant is full or empty.
Sat right down. Very good martini. Portions good. Waitress grest
It's been a long time since we've been to Zama, and we've called Zama the poor man's Nobu, and that remains true because the food was excellent. The salmon tartare was a thin layer of perfection with complementing flavors. The sashimi sampler was ideal for sharing and a great way to taste three of my favorites. Lastly, the salmon croquette on salmon roll was clever, tasty and filling. The hostess was dismissive when we asked for a booth; I think it's fine to say no if there are reservations and they expect a full house early on a Tuesday night, but being dismissive is just not nice. Our waiter could not possibly have been any better, and the bartender was great.
Super dank food and service
This was my second time eating at Zama and the second wonderful meal I've had there! The first time we ate outside, while this time we dined inside the restaurant. Our waitress was great at giving suggestions and recommendations, and we loved everything we ate! The sushi is incredibly fresh and the portion sizes were perfect! The edamame with sea salt on them that we started with were excellent. I also recommend the pork dumplings. For dinner, I had the Wasabi lobster roll...amazing! Our party of four enjoyed the 3 dessert sampler at the end of our meal and were easily able to share that between the four of us, giving each person a bite or two of each dessert. The sake and drinks were good and all around it was just a great dining experience. I would definitely add this restaurant to your Philly list of places to eat!
Zama was very good. My husband is Japanese American and we have been looking for good Japanese food in the area for a while. We have had some great meals and some not so great meals all over the area and even into NJ. Zama was one of the great ones.
The fish was impeccably fresh, the combinations were both classic and innovative, the service was friendly and professional. We stuck to the more traditional Japanese style dishes but next time, and there will be a next time, we might branch out to some of the more fusion dishes.
Good food, though a little on the expensive side.
The $75 tasting menu was amazing! We enjoyed an excellent meal and attentive service.
Great date night, we loved the tasting menu ! Staff was really nice and explained everything
Best Sushi in Center City. Love Zama! I go at least 3-4 times per year. Philly Roll is great!
My friend and I shared a tasting menu. While not a lot of food, everything was exquisite.
I was truly disappointed. From food to service. It was all so mediocre.
The server was extremely patient and helpful. the food was delicious.
Got tipsy off the soy sauce
Absolutely wondrous, the uni was an oceanic treat defined by the luscious quail yolk. Our scallop hand rolls were delightful, brushed patiently with a beauty mastered only by a truly talented itamae.
Our server was gracious and kind, merci beaucoup for such a lovely experience.
Very busy at lunch time - service was on the slower side because of that - but food was outstanding
I eat here often. It’s incredible quality and great service.
We enjoyed the small plates and sharing. The food was delicious and our server, Gianna was excellent.
First time and it was amazing. Good sushi and staff.
Heard all about ZAMA and after sampling many things I was very impressed! Great food and service this place is a go to in Philly for Sushi and Japenese culinary.
We live 2hrs away and our kids said that the food here was so good we would probably drive just for it. Celebrated our daughter’s birthday there and it was perfect. The fish is very fresh.
This was a most excellent meal. Every serving was surprisingly fresh and tasteful.
Everything about this restaurant was superb- atmosphere, service and the food!
The food was very good and the service friendly, but the timing was poor. They brought my food out 5-10 minutes before my friend’s, and I saw another table having the same problem - 4 out of 5 people were served and the 5th was just waiting for some time.
The food was all great but the menu structure and pricing system makes no sense. There are many different categories of items that could be considered “appetizers” and are called different things. It’s hard to figure out what to order without the waiter explaining it. These categories are called “Appetizers” “Small Bites” “Bites” “Sushi Bar” and “Sides” We were told some are like appetizers and some are like small tapas and none of it made sense. We understood the size for maki, specialty maki, and a la carte but the rest was very confusing. Expect to spend about $50-60 per person for a meal. Everything we ordered was so delicious and we will want to come back.
The food was so creative, unique, and delicious. Definitely get the tofu that is made at your table! If you're expecting the average sushi place, this is not it. It is so much more.
Food was fabulous as always. Service was excellent. Out favorite Sushi restaurant in Philly. Highly recommend
Best sushi in Philly
I had lunch at Zama this week. Like the atmosphere and design of this small restaurant. It is modern, Japan like and feels very cozy. Service was nice, food was on our table in no time. Everything was delicious. I am recommending that place.
Best tempura in town. Extremely good suishi also. In addition to great food the service also extremely good
Phenomenal menu, unique and many choices, all delicious. Fast attentive service. I would come back here again and again to try out all the various items.
Zama was wonderful! The sushi rolls were diverse and delicious. The specialty rolls were a bit more pricey then other great places but they were delicious!
The tuna usuzukuri is a must, as are the scallops. All was delicious
