always an exceptional experience with close attention to creative combinations of fresh and delicious fish and spices
Good food and service. A bit pricey, especially the sushi. The Black Cod and Short Rib were very good.
Delicious lunch. We were able to have their $55 tasting menu for during lunch.
The place is really cool. We had a great meal, the desserts are awesome also.
I've been to Zama twice now and found each meal delicious. I especially like that in addition to the fast service, they offer dishes I've never seen elsewhere. Everything from the brussels sprouts appetizer to the sushi, sashimi and specialty dishes like fried chicken were wonderful. I look forward to going back soon.
We return often. Great value, diversity and quality in small dishes. We will generally split a large plate.
Food was and is always good! If you like sushi, it’s a great place to go!
Best sushi, best service, tiny atmosphere for intimate meals ..... power lunch, date night, Sunday funday.... all outstanding!!!!! Can't wait until the next time I am there... .service and sushi chefs were brillant, I am gluten free and theny made all the modifications to make me happy.
Everything we ordered was excellent. Some very innovative dishes - especially Philly Style maki, Oysters 3 ways and Wasabi truffle escargot.
Sushi chef's are the best in the city, all fresh fishes.
Amazing food, staff & management!!! Our waiter Peter made our experience that much better!! We drive an hour and a half from Baltimore to get dinner here.
The special White Dragon roll was one of the best rolls I have ever had! The miso soup was delicious! We could have done without the desert, it wasn’t as enjoyable as the meal!
We always love Zama when visiting Philly. The noise from neighboring tables is sometimes a bit overwhelming, but the food and service are always outstanding.
Sashimi was delicious!!
Our first time dining here, we came in for a late snack. We both had rainbow rolls, I had miso soup, and my husband had the seaweed salad. The sushi was very good, but a bit pricey. Very busy on a Tuesday night, but they tried really hard to keep up with the service.
My husband & I chose Zama based on reviews and location to our hotel. Staff was not friendly nor welcoming. It took 20 mins after being seated for our drink order to be taken. Another 15 mins to receive our wine and 45 mins to receive 1 dish that did not come out with other orders. The seats were not comfy and lighting terrible. The only positive note was that the food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Cost was fair.
The food was good but very overpriced for the serving sizes and cuisine. The service was mediocre and the note about my son's birthday was completely ignored.
Fabulous food. Great service. A wonderful night. I recommend Zama highly.
Everything was great, as always!
Everyone was so sweet
I have been to Zamia 4 times and it never disappoints. Great sushi, great service and a great value!
It is always a pleasure to eat at Zama. Zama has the best sushi in Philadelphia, particularly the scallop and the Rittenhouse Three. Try the desserts as well.
Fantastic experience. The food is great in general, and this year's restaurant week deal was just perfect
For restaurant week, it was not worth the price. Two different people ordered the same item off the menu and it came out on one plate as if it were two separate portions. That is NOT okay. This happened for two different appetizers. I love Zama, the food, and the ambience but it's not worth it for restaurant week.
SUPER fast service, was expecting to be there for an hour and a half but with drinks dinner and dessert we were there for less than an hour and our res was for 6:15
excellent and delicious as always. the food is prepared with careful attention. Small plates, enrtees, not and cold can all be sequenced as the diner desires. And they have a comprehensive cellar of sakes of different profiles to choose from
Dinner was delicious and beyond our expectations. Strongly recommend the sesame salmon and the salted caramel mochi/fluffernut dessert. Only negative thing was the excessive amount of noise. Would definitely go back!
Great food! Good service, and nice ambiance
Amazing food, a bit pricey but delicious. Our server Peter was very helpful & friendly.
Loved the creative cocktails! And dessert was amazing. We loved our oysters 3 ways, but were a little disappointed in each of our choices for small bites and bites. I had the soft shell shrimp. They were 'okay' but the taste was nothing really special, except for the novelty of eating shrimp shells, which we did! Then I had the scallops on quinoa salad. The scallops were seared perfectly, but the salad didn't have much flavor. My husband ordered the halibut and grilled avocado. He felt they were 'good' but not amazing. I'd definitely recommend going back for drinks and dessert and I'd try it again for dinner. Maybe we just ordered wrong for our tastes. The atmosphere was wonderful and the wait staff very attentive.
The sushi at Zama was excellent, and they featured rolls with unique flavor combinations we’d never had anywhere else...and we’re frequent sushi-eaters. Be sure to try the truffle roll. The precise name escapes me, but ask for it and your server will know what you’re looking for. On that note, the service was excellent, and the staff was communicative, friendly, and knowledgeable. The ambiance was cool, but no better than average for Rittenhouse. We’ll definitely be back.
This has become my favorite Japanese restaurant in Philly. Great apps, shashimi, rolls and entrees. Always consistent with food and service! Any nigh/every night a home run!
Food usually good but the pace of food service is bizarre.
The only sushi place I have ever been to where the food consistently comes out either too fast or too slow, they seem to have no idea how to pace a meal and every time we go the sushi seems to come out very slowly whether the restaurant is full or empty.
Sat right down. Very good martini. Portions good. Waitress grest
It's been a long time since we've been to Zama, and we've called Zama the poor man's Nobu, and that remains true because the food was excellent. The salmon tartare was a thin layer of perfection with complementing flavors. The sashimi sampler was ideal for sharing and a great way to taste three of my favorites. Lastly, the salmon croquette on salmon roll was clever, tasty and filling. The hostess was dismissive when we asked for a booth; I think it's fine to say no if there are reservations and they expect a full house early on a Tuesday night, but being dismissive is just not nice. Our waiter could not possibly have been any better, and the bartender was great.
Super dank food and service
This was my second time eating at Zama and the second wonderful meal I've had there! The first time we ate outside, while this time we dined inside the restaurant. Our waitress was great at giving suggestions and recommendations, and we loved everything we ate! The sushi is incredibly fresh and the portion sizes were perfect! The edamame with sea salt on them that we started with were excellent. I also recommend the pork dumplings. For dinner, I had the Wasabi lobster roll...amazing! Our party of four enjoyed the 3 dessert sampler at the end of our meal and were easily able to share that between the four of us, giving each person a bite or two of each dessert. The sake and drinks were good and all around it was just a great dining experience. I would definitely add this restaurant to your Philly list of places to eat!
Zama was very good. My husband is Japanese American and we have been looking for good Japanese food in the area for a while. We have had some great meals and some not so great meals all over the area and even into NJ. Zama was one of the great ones.
The fish was impeccably fresh, the combinations were both classic and innovative, the service was friendly and professional. We stuck to the more traditional Japanese style dishes but next time, and there will be a next time, we might branch out to some of the more fusion dishes.
