Our server, Danielle, did a very good job answering our questions about specific dishes. The kitchen is split between hot and the sushi bar so, depending on what you're ordering, food could arrive quickly and you might outgrow the real estate on your table. And dishes won't arrive in the expected order of appy, entree. The calamari salad with avocado was very large with many lightly breaded pieces, a very good choice. The wasabi truffle escargot stole the show. Another very large appetizer dish that, while a little salty, had amazing flavor! The japanese crudo and sea bass dice were good light selections but nothing special and we tacked on a piece of eel for each of us. The dessert trio was the perfect size for the two of us. Had to try the fluffernutter dumpling (be aware, it has peanut butter in it too), the Yuzu Crème Brule was good and the special, sake almond cake, was different and quite tasty.
Superb all around.
Great dinner with colleagues. Wide menu choices to make everyone happy.
Awesome meal. Had the $100 tasting. Everything was really fresh and very creative. This is not your typical sushi bar. It’s more expensive than some I’ve been too but my experience here was one of the best I’ve ever had. Worth.Every.Penny! Service was extremely attentive and I never felt rushed,,,, something that happens all too frequently at many restaurants today. I don’t live in Philly, I’m an hour and a half away, already planning to come back!
I love zama. Been there many times. Every time it’s very consistent and good. This time our waiter was terrible. He did t get our drink order for 15 minutes, he brought only half of the order. He forgot the drinks. The entire service was like this. We asked him to split the check in half put it in 2 cards. One card was charged half and the other was charged the full amount. He was nowhere to be found. I had to chase him down. I know its not the restaurants fault but the waiter was horrible.
Go here every year as a birthday tradition and have never been disappointed with the food or service. Always a wonderful experience.
Manager did not stop at the table once. Interesting considering he went to many tables. Stood clear of ours. Would think ordering the $120 pp chef tasting plus drinks would have at least stopped. Service was a little slow.
Great spot! My friends love sushi and swear it’s the best in town. I always enjoy the drinks and meat options.
Food is always excellent. Our waitress had no personality and rushed us through. From appetizer to dessert, we were out in 40 minutes.
Great food, Great service. Didn’t particularly care to be so incredibly close to the table next us, it was very impersonal, but a small sacrifice for incredible food.
Everything about Zama was very good... the food, the wine, the service, and the atmosphere. I would certainly recommend.
Great food and service but very expensive and over priced..
Great food and service. Pricey for sushi
Always excellent. Food is wonderful. Staff are friendly and attentive. Great restaurant
Zama is the best sushi restaurant in Philadelphia. The food is awesome, the staff is great and Zama is a wonderful man. Try the scallops.
We came to celebrate my husband’s birthday. My son-in-law ordered sashimi a la carte as an appetizer— it didn’t come with my husband’s soup or my app—somehow, it had been forgotten. They did try to make it up to him by comping the app he ate after his steak, but the episode did rather spoil the meal, as we were in the dark about the delay until his steak arrived. Such a shame!
Best sushi we've ever had. Everything was tremendous from Service to food. Highly recommend
It was amazing and would highly recommend . so many great choices
Wine was expensive and fair at best but food was great!
Reviews made it seem like the food and experience would be much better than it was. Very average compared to other sushi restaurants.
Zama is a totally reliable and consistently excellent restaurant
Love the variety of fresh sushi and sashimi without having to order rolls that are fried and doused in sauces. Consistently the best sushi restaurant in Philly.
Met my daughter for dinner. Food was good but not great for the price. Server was great. Attentive but not smothering. We were there early 615 and place was crazy busy. Seated at table in front of sushi bar and very hectic with all traffic going back and forth
We went for a pre-matinee Saturday lunch. Everything was great. Excellent service and we really enjoyed the food. We had edamame with three salts, sushi and rock shrimp tempura and really enjoyed them all. Very nice clean atmosphere also.
Zama was fine. Went for lunch on a Saturday with two friends. The atmosphere was trendy and the carafe of Dewatsuru sake was quite good. The short rib appetizer and the pan fried dumplings were exceptional. Dragon roll and California roll were both good but not outstanding. The sashimi was lackluster. We got a sashimi combination and splurged for the "black belt" - higher quality fish. The toro was sinewy and not melt in your mouth the way we've come to appreciate good toro. The matoudai and the salmon were very good . . .the other pieces were "meh" at best.
We're new to the Philadelphia area and have not found a great Japanese restaurant yet. We would go back to Zama but will keep looking for exceptional sushi and sashimi.
High end sushi and lots of good recommendations from the waitress. Have been looking for an alternative since Zento closed and this certainly covered all bases.
Tierny, our server was amazing!
Incredibly fresh and creative sushi. The tasting dinner is absolutely the way to go. A culinary experience!
Birthday dinner. I was also quite impressed with how the server was able to help me accommodate a Keto Diet and it was delicious. The scallops were fantastic. She also added a candle for the occasion.
We got the $75 Chef's Selection, which was almost like omakase. All of the dishes were very good, and some were great (they got better and better as each dish was served). The wait-staff were very nice and gave us a reasonable amount of space vs. attention. The dishes each took a little while to come out, though it was a fairly packed Saturday night.
Still one of my favorites! I had the 7-course premium omakase, delicious.
Zama is truly incredible! Delicious food, great atmosphere, and tremendous service. Highly recommended
The only good sushi restaurant in Philadelphia.
food was excellent as was the service. The ambiance is good but not great. Great location and all around excellent experience.
The sushi was of poor quality - dry rice, meh fish - and our $17 sea bass appetizer consisted of three cubes of fish plus pickled vegetables.
Service and food was excellent. Ask your server, they know what’s good!
Place has seen better days. Rice was undercooked.
Not very clean. Food very mediocre. Too warm and humid inside. Good location though.
