Great food, location, service; moderate prices. Branzino is excellent. Very good wine list. Our go-to place for dinner in Chelsea. We will be back.
kinda false advertising. it looks nothing like the pictures on open table or google. the outdoor seating was on the avenue sidewalk - yuck. not what expected for the price.
Always great food, and a warm welcoming atmosphere by the owner and staff that makes us feel like family. This has been my favorite restaurant in Chelsea for quite some time there, and I bring people to experience as often as I can.
Wonderful, authentic "new Tuscan" food. Nicely priced for the quality of the food. Imaginative riffs on Italian food without being crazy. We have lived in Chelsea for 12 years and always bemoaned the fact that there seems to be no middle-ground good restaurant nearby. There are the expensive ones (Union Square, Gramercy Tavern) and the good ethnic restaurants (Hana-Sushi, Rin Thai), but Zagara fills the bill of "Where can we take them and the food is good and the place is nice and the price isn't ridiculous?" Go to Zagara.
Our waiter was super friendly and knowledgeable.
The pasta dishes were delicious.
The salads were good.
Service was very good.
A little too much AC on top on one s’aide of most tables (2 of us had to keep their jacket).
It was very loud though (but what can they do about it I guess...)
Fresh ingredients, pleasant room and helpful staff
Service was good, eggplant dinner was like an appetizer not a dinner and not hot. Chicken dinners were eh..Overpriced for quality and quantity.
My girlfriend and I were able to locate this neighborhood gem near our hotel. We both enjoyed the toasted bread to start, followed by our own individual pasta dinners, and finished with the Panna Cotta.
Great food. Attentive server.
Food was fabulous and waiter very kind. We were there early and he allowed us to sit inside. He didn't know but I was in a lot of pain so his gesture is highly appreciated. Everything we ordered was delicious: calamari (which he recommended), branzino, salmon, steak and the last one I can't recall. Terrific, thank you!!
We had Easter lunch here and it was a very good lunch. The sandwiches were tasty and crusty and the pasta was al dente and enjoyable.
Try to stay away from pasta -- but at Zagara it's very difficult! I had the Pappardelle ai Funghi Misti Trifolati. I asked for just a bit more trifolati and got it! Just perfecto! Our server was wonderful, giving us tastes of several wines so we could choose the best for our meals. Overall a lovely ristorante for lunch with a friend!
The wine & food were excellent. The salmon & grilled asparagus were very fresh, perfectly prepared. The salads were all excellent, and both salad & dessert (a different type of tiramisu) were unique, which is rare to find, and very good. It would add a lot if the bread was served warm. The only reason I did not give it a 5 all the way thru was the price. While not totally out of range for NYC restaurants nowadays, it was up there. But I would return.
The food was wonderful. The acoustics however are terrible making it difficult to hear the people you are dining with. As more patrons arrived, the noise level became worse.
it was empty at lunchtime and I was a bit concerned. That being said, the food was delicious, the owner was charming and the service was good. I will go back.
great spot in lower manhattan. we went back a 2nd time to see Giuseppe because our group enjoyed it the last time in town so much. personalized and authentic Italian food and service. great vibe
This place was so delicious! Will definitely be back. Was a nice, homey feel as well.
A very good neighborhood Italian restaurant. Nice fresh pasta, quality salads, decent wine list. Excellent service. A very pleasant surprise.
Great local find. Service is excellent. The atmosphere is quiet so its great for having a conversation with someone
This is a very good neighborhood restaurant in Chelsea. Food and service are good. Owner is very friendly. He came to talk to us about the wine and food they serve. It was an enjoyable evening having dinner there.
Although the staff was made extremely aware of a food allergy to wheat, the appetizer was brought out with two pieces of bread right in the middle of the plate!! The drinks were awful and made incorrectly and had to be sent back. The food was fine but nothing special. Very disappointing!!
Delicious and friendly
A great place to come with your significant other to eat dinner
The owner Guisepe was very nice! Servings were small...steak was pounded and breaded. Just ok.
The food was wonderful. Nice wine list. Classic Italian fare that feel very Florentine or Umbrian with some familiar fare. Something for everyone.
The service was homey and very friendly. Also, quite professional.
Don’t be fooled by the not so great location because they’ve a great job at making a welcoming environment. Great for family and friends dinner.
One word to the wise...sitting in the back means experiencing the heat of kitchen and makes for a less than stellar experience.
We love going to Zagara. They always make us feel like family, and the food is always delicious. I've even brought some larger dinner parties there for work. The room in the back handles a table of 20 beautifully. I love the place, and we go there often, so that says something, considering all the options in the neighborhood.
Very disappointing, all the more so because the staff was so welcoming, nice and helpful. Regrettably, the food was mediocre at best, small portions and not at all a good value for the price. $14 for a side-salad sized Caesar??? C'mon. Zagara has been a neighborhood staple for years and I'm really pulling for it but there needs to be an improvement in the taste and quality of the food.
Excellent food.......but very noisy bar area......noise permeates the entire building. overall a good value. close to Irish Rep. Theater.
Try the eggplant! And at lunchtime it is an oasis of calm.
Great place to eat before a play at Irish Rep. Zagara is one of the many restaurants near this Chelsea intersection of 7th and 23rd, but I recommend it highly. We shared a fine calamari appetizer (with vegetables) and I had a very good housemade green pasta with bolognese sauce.
Good neighborhood restaurant - decent Italian food with large portions, but nothing special. Very good if there are dietary issues - they do serve gluten free bread and pastas. Good option for those eaters.
Our dining experience was perfectly executed.
The burrata appetizer was devious.
The pasta with pears, sautéed rucola and served with a creamy fontina cheese "fondue" was Devine.
The service was non-intrusive but available.
Thsi si a go-to place for us when we travel into NYC!
I met a friend at Zagara for lunch. We were the only diners in the restaurant for most of the meal. We each ordered salads with added chicken, expecting this to be a light lunch entree. We were served tiny appetizer salads with no more than an ounce of thinly sliced chicken topping them. Truly ridiculous for the prices! It's easy to see why the place was empty . . .
The Eggs florentine were good, but the benedict were short on hollandaise sauce, egg yoke almost hard and the canadian ham skimpy, but Zagara a good experience overall.
Absolutely amazing restaurant! It’s a lot bigger than it looks on the outside and they were so accommodating, even when the party was running a little bit behind. The food is absolutely amazing! I would definitely come back
We had a reservation for 5:30. At 6:15 the waiter brought our check over and said that there was another reservation coming in a few minutes. I tried to question him about how we could have a reservation for under an hour but he just kept saying that another reservation was coming soon. This has never happened to me before, and I find it highly unprofessional, even insulting. I won't be going back to Zagara.
Great spot and solid food. I will be returning. Had the octopus appetizer and it was terrific. Salmon entrée for lunch was also fresh and well prepared.
Food was excellent and the staff were very helpful and warm.
In search of a Chelsea neighborhood Italian restaurant and found this place on Yelp and Open Table. Great reviews and close to the hotel. SO glad we went! Personal and attentive service and superb pasta! Mangia!
