Everyone loved their dinner & dessert.
Salmon special entree was a big hit, gluten-free pasta with bolognese, ravioli and espresso Panna cotta were all big hits!
Wonderful for a relaxing dinner with wine. Comfortable with a great menu and attentive service.
This is our third time here and plan to return. It's easy walking distance to The Joyce which we frequent often. We had pastas and salads and everything was delicious and so was desert.
Very friendly staff; excellent food with nice gluten-free options; not too noisy, but lively.
Overall beautiful dinner. Giuseppe , the owner, treated my boyfriend and I like family while we were there for our NYE dinner. Felt like a true Italian experience. We had a salad and a pistachio pesto pasta that were both delicious. Thank you Giuseppe!!
Really exceptional food, came as a surprise given some of the previews reviews. This easily deserves top ratings. Maybe the chef has changed recently?
Food was solid and so was service. Portions were kind of small for the cost.
It was Birthday and christmas eve. The food was delicious and service was excellent!! I would highly recommend this italian hidden gem!!
Like the restaurant enough to be a returning customer when I am in the NYC.
We enjoyed Zagara for an early dinner after a play at the Irish Repertory Theater (right around the corner). The food was delicious -- distinctive salads and yummy pasta. We also enjoyed the desserts -- gluten-free carrot cake and a semi fredo. Zagara has an interesting wine list with some reasonable prices for by the glass. The waiter and all the staff were charming! Nice atmosphere. We will come again.
Very good! Nice service and delicious food!!
Four people, four main dishes, four Rave reviews. And imaginative appetizers to the main courses we could not have been more pleased. Everything was that good.
We arrived with a 6:30 Rez; there were no tables but the manager personally came over apologized, and took care of us until one opened up. Ten min later he seated us and personally setus up well, making conversation while managing a clearly crazy night due to holiday office parties. Ambiance was great and food was delicious. My wife has Celiac and the owner had GF recipes that he personally created. Wonderful experience would definitely go back.
As an Italian, I can say that the food at Zagara is authentic and very good. Definitely a place I’ll go back to.
Very good. Excellent service.
Another great meal. Sea bass special was excellent. Short ribs was a repeat favorite. Beet salad app another repeat. Bread consistently fresh & flavorful. Discreetly attentive service too.
Very few diners on Friday eve, day after Thanksgiving. Went at 6p. My pasta dish was heavy on salt. Grilled veggies were good.
It was not busy when we arrived but seemed to pick up some as we were eating (we were early after a show). Great food and excellent service.
Spent a wonderful evening with the Zagara team last night. The food is traditional Italian, the guys had the Osso Bocco...phenomenal, the sauce/gravy was awesome. My wife had the roasted chicken with prosciutto and mozzarella, again impeccable. Overall, great restaurants know how to make you feel welcome, and not want to leave. Joseppe and team knocked the ball out of the park. Don't miss out!!!
You can’t go wrong here! Our meals were delicious and made with fresh quality ingredients!
The food was excellent. You can tell there is a lot of passion for what they do there. Hats off to Chef Joe and his staff. You wont be disappointed with your meal. Will be back wth y family from Italy if taht says anything at all !!!! enjoy !!
Service is terrific. Our waiter remembered us from a visit several months ago and gave us a warm welcome. The pasta is very good -- had tagliatelli and mushrooms with truffle oil. Shared a salad with pears and walnuts -- plenty of walnuts. Limited choice of wine by the glass but good choices. Dessert was a very tasty ricotta cheese cake with strawberry coulis -- delicious.
As always our meal and dining experience at Zagara was top notch. We brought friends who hadn’t yet been and they were raving about the quality and flavor of our dishes. We are so lucky to have this gem in our neighborhood!
I enjoyed my food and loved the service here!
Wonderful meal, excellent service - wish they were in Sacramento. Very nice evening
Very convenient location pre Irish Rep Theater. Good service without pre-theater rush. Salads were delicious: recommend fennel, artichoke, avocado. Our pastas also excellent. Nice wines by the glass: enjoyed a red from Sicily. Noise level and spacing of tables allowed for easy conversation.
Excellent from start to finish. Service was unobtrusive yet attentive. Pasta dishes were all fresh & light.
What can I say. It is always great to come here to spend a pleasant evening. Always great food service and ambiance. We are every time welcomed seemed to travel to Italy. Very nice workers and management. Glad I found it
Good flavorful food. Nice intimidate environment and a very friendly bartender. We'll be back!
Very good Italian restaurant within walking distance to Penn Station - about 10 blocks. Food above average, wine pours generous and relatively inexpensive, service efficient and pleasant.
Photos of Salmon and Spaghetti w pesto and potato
A gem you must try 👌👌We had a great time between Food and Wine it was amazing forgot to take pictures of the plates but trust me they were delicious. I requested a GLUTEN FREE dish and they made sure mine is cooked separately and I got a bowl of GLUTEN FREE PASTA too, another keeper on my list for Italian food.
Love this place! Such friendly service. Food is consistently great. Octopus salad for appetizer was so fresh and full of flavor. Any main will be delicious!
Unlike other reviewers, I found the service tolerable, but the food inedible.
Olive oil on the table and in my salad dressing was rancid. Lukewarm baked eggplant was covered in a sugary puree topped with what seemed to be a packaged sliced cheese.
Noise level was painful. This was unfortunate but understandable once 2 large parties arrived, but not understandable prior to that, when one inebriated jerk was screaming at the top of his lungs. When I mentioned it to a waiter, he shrugged.
Worst restaurant I’ve been to in recent memory.
While visiting New York, we found it hard to find a restaurant where the food is excellent and decently priced, while the staff is welcoming and goes the extra mile. But when we came to Zagara, we definitely found ourselves at home thanks to the lovely Giuseppe!
We came to Zagara the first time for lunch. We were there quite early, so we were the only customers when we walked in. Giuseppe was very talkative and genuinely interested in getting to know us and make our visit perfect. We adored him so much that we came back a few days later for dinner.
All of the dishes and drinks we had were authentic Italian. From the gnocchetti to the tiramisu paired with different wines and limoncello.
We highly recommend Zagara for the typical Italian experience; from the amazing dishes and wine selection to the great hospitality of our favorite host!
First-time visit before a concert at MSG. Not crowded, easy to get to. Food was excellent, service was quick. Would definitely return.
This is a very fine small restaurant with very friendly, helpful staff. I asked our server to choose a bottle of wine from 3 that I picked. His choice was excellent. The starters and entree's were all prepared perfectly and delicious.
B'day dinner for six with mixed reviews on the food. 3 likes and 3 dislikes. The 2 appetisers we tried were tasty and the highlight of the meal. All agreed that the main portions were small and would have been nice to start with warm bread with some flavor and not the bland room temp bread that we got. Pasta portions were the size of side dishes at other restaurants. My wife selected the cornish hen ( 1 OF 3 MEAT DISHES ON THE MENU) and only 1/2 of the hen was served. We decided to skip the $ 4.00 coffee and and reasonable priced desert menu with no idea of portion size . We left and had desert elsewhere to celebrate the b'day. Place was empty the night we were there . One staff member did say thank you and goodnight when we left. We would not return.
Wonderful!!! This restaurant fulfilled everything that I wanted - professional but warm/friendly service, excellent Italian cuisine, an attractive but not stuffy decor, and good seating. Thank you!!!!
Zagara is a neighborhood gem in the heart of Chelsea where you always get quality food and your choice of excellent wines along with superb service. The homemade pasta and specials are always wonderful! We are always warmly greeted by the staff and owner. You feel like you’re on a mini vacation to Italy!!
