great service, good food, nice decor, we will be back
Great food, Great service! Ravioli Porcini was outstanding!
My husband and I got together with another couple for lunch after a walk on the High Line. Zagara sounded like a good choice on Open Table, so we decided to try a new place. We are so glad we did!! Giuseppe, as well as his wait staff, were so friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious. Special kudos for the mushroom pappardelle and salad with grilled chicken. We mentioned that we weren’t in a rush, and everyone made us feel like family as they continued to fill up our water glasses without us having to ask them to do so. We even got hugs from Giuseppe as we left. So happy we found this place- we will return!
Great food! Fresh pasta! Many options including healthy and GF if that is what you are looking for. I had homemade ravioli and it was delicious and not too heavy! The sauce was great too, highly recommend.
Good food. Good staff. Decent cost.
All-around fabulous time for our party of 7! Food was delicious and well-prepared and staff was exceptional
We had a party of 8 people, getting together and celebrating one person's achievements. We had a late evening reservation and never felt rushed. The service was outstanding. The food was excellent with portions that satisfied but were not over-whelming. We would definitely dine there again, as would our guests.
The food was absolutely delicious. The homemade pasta was to die for! Nice, quiet restaurant in Chelsea
We were a party of 10 celebrating a birthday. The table location was excellent. The service was superb. The owner Guiseppe came by several times to make sure all was good. All was better than good, it was GREAT! Everyone loved their food choices which ranged from homemade pasta dishes, many appetizers and salads, and terrific desserts. All ten of us walked out full and happy. We will be back!!
Perfectly grilled salmon and excellent service. I recommend it—
Always a great dinner ... best pasta in Chelsea ... perfectly cooked EVERYTIME ... front of restaurant has a great vibe .. GREAT Happy hour crowd .... neighborhood favorite .... back of restaurant great for quiet dinner
Zagara is a true neighborhood gem - always serving delicious, fresh food made with quality ingredients. Homemade pasta dishes are highly recommended. The owner and staff treat you like family when you are there.
Modest setting but the food was excellent and the service very good and very friendly. The four of us order various pastas including a homemade fettuccine with wild boar ragu. All were excellent. Would highly recommend for casual dining with friends.
Excellent dinner, great service. Definitely going to go back!
Service was excellent. Menu selections were varied, prices appropriate. Server was helpful. Food was delicious...we shared a salad and an appetizer...the octopus appetizer was outstanding. Our main courses (one a homemade pasta and the other a fish special) were terrific too. Great spot if you are going to the Irish Reparatory Theater. We'll return.
Delicious homemade pasta! Quick and yummy!
Excellent food & great atmosphere! Service was very friendly. We would go back again next time we are in town. Only downfall for me was it was a little too dark inside but overall a great place!
It was my second time in this very welcoming place. The atmosphere is great not too noise for a very busy night, all restaurant was packed since early evening. This time we tried some items from the menu. I have to tell you they have a very good chef, I think he is from south Italy you can taste the freshness. The gnocchi truffle very light and tasty, my wife took the pappardelle manzo and we share to start the Fried calamari very good. The wine was excellent a nice bottle of Supertuscan. Overall great 25th anniversary.we will come soon. Thanks at the owner he offer us Limoncello e Semifreddo. Great place
The (Flat Fresh Pasta) homemade pasta was very very very good and I still remember this. I am coming back for more. Chocolate souffle was nice as well.
Great food and service. We really enjoyed our meal here.
Salads and fried calamari (with delicious zucchini) were good appetizers. Simple but delicious breadbasket. Bartender worked to make sure cocktail was exactly to my liking. My pasta with crab entree was bleh until I asked for fresh lemon, which totally saved it. Perhaps the kitchen forgot to add a note of acid to the dish. Nice spot overall
My job requested me to book a place within the 4 block radius of our broad meeting.. The requirements were.. It had to be quiet enough for 12 people to talk, pre ordered meals, gluten free, veggie friendly and everything had to be ready by the time they got there. I said to myself how am I going to do this? I found myself in a pickle until I found Zagara !! Gluten free pasta.. Check! Veggie friendly.. Check! Amazing owner who was beyond accommodating even while he was on vacation... Triple check!!! 😊 he made sure that everything was perfect .. When my team got there they told me it was amazing ...the food.. The service... Everything was to perfection !!! I could not have been able to do it without you 😊 thank you Zagara!!
The homemade past was great! Short rib ragu was enjoyed by all and the eggplant appetizer was delicious. Dessert was also fabulous!
Really like to come here for business lunch as it is rarely crowded and one can have a conversation without shouting. The food is very good, freshly prepared, and the menu simple--not too many choices but plenty diverse. I wish they would turn the volume down on the piped-in music. They will and do if you ask, but one shouldn't have to ask when clearly the clientele at lunch is business people who are discussing business. There is a livelier crowd at the nicely appointed bar after work and then for dinner, so music then makes more sense.
None of us had been here but I made the reservation because it is so close to the Irish Rep Theater. We all said we would return. The food was delicious and the staff was lovely.
One of our favorite neighborhood places. We always get treated like family when we come in, and the food and service is always excellent!
This is a neighborhood restaurant, and we went based on reviews we read. The staff is very friendly and tries to accommodate. The menu varies from other Italian restaurants and the food was generally good. The restaurant was busy and we were seated up front, which tended to be cold when the door was opened.
Friendly staff, good service, overall a good experience!
Food and service were great. It’s was early in the evening so it was pretty quiet. Hosts however were very welcoming and gave a beautiful experience. Will definitely go back and try again.
Always a pleasant experience. The warmest most welcoming host and very good execution on both food and service. An expanding number of vegetarian options and a nice wine list with some unusual choices.
What a beautiful place. I live few blocks away and was my first time. We were welcome at the door and after sitting everything was exceptional from the service to the food, we ordered zucchini soufflé my wife told me was very good. Our entrees was the specials asking our server what order. He advice us to take the special Lobster and as fish the red snapper. I never had gnocchi so light I’m entire my life. Te fish was week executed and the Malvasia sauce was a delight. We finished with cappuccino and the semifreddo alla mandorla. Great night before the show at Irish Repertory around the corner on 22 . It will be from now on our Italian gem
I got to say when I walked in I didn’t expect such a warm welcoming. The stuff and owner where very nice they made me feel like I was part of there family’s . Other then that the food was amazing. I had the osoboco it was out of this world one of the best I had. My friends had the special pasta Black ink linguine with the crab meat it was Phenomenal. I got to say one of the best Restaurants in Chelsea. Will be back soon.
Zagara never disappoints! Authentic Northern Italian Cuisine - light, yet full of flavor. One of the best Italian restaurants with a great wine list. Service is excellent. Highly recommend.
My experience was great! The food was amazing and I loved the staff and ambiance. If you're looking for authentic Italian food... this is the place to go!!!
Giuseppe and team made our New Year's Eve in New York City memorable. This was one of the best (and) authentic Italian meals we've ever had. The food, service and ambiance will ensure we will visit again next time we visit NYC.
Very nice place for dinner after a movie on 23rd. Chef owner Giuseppe is always available for questions etc. They are excellent for anyone with food allergies. We had someone with celiac and required gluten free - no problem at all. Also the same for tree nuts and peanuts. Food was very fresh and wine list was good.
I live in Chelsea, and Zagara is one of my fave, go-to neighborhood spots. Giuseppe is the best host...he and his staff are always friendly and welcoming. The wine list is great, and the food is really delicious and authentic. Great spot for brunch, a glass of wine and a small plate, happy hour at the bar, or a cozy dinner. Love Zagara!
No ambiance - eggs Benedict without savor.
I've lived in Chelsea for 8 years now and this is by far my favorite neighborhood spot. Great happy hour and even better food. The pasta is the best in the area, homemade and delicious. The staff is great and friendly. The Pappadelle with the short rib is my favorite!
In a city that boasts many fine Italian restaurants, Zagara Ristorante Italiano stands out for its variations on classic dishes, its inventive seasoning and cooking of vegetable, pasta, fish and meats. I particularly enjoyed a Veal Milanese while I tasted a wonderful Red Snapper that my partner ordered. We enjoyed everything from salad to dessert and espresso. The wine menu was interesting with a variety of regions represented.
To further testify to our enjoyment of our meal, we hope to return for our next Christmas Eve dinner.
