Zaffiro's - Mequon Ratings and Reviews
They are gluten free friendly, and have gluten free pasta and pizza, but it took 30 minutes to get our dinners, all because of the gluten free pasta I ordered. It takes 9-12 minutes to cook, so I'm not sure what the hold up was, unless they were out of pots to make it in... We said something to our waiter that the food was taking a long time, in hopes of him seeing what the issue was, and he responded, "I know." and then walked away. Our food came out maybe 5 minutes after that, but we were all shocked that he responded that way. Pasta was good, but I could have made the same thing at home.
The place was very busy, but it seemed to me a few staff just huddling around the host stand chatting. At onetime a guy came out from the kitchen area. With. Straw in his mouth stood around at the bar and went back in the kitchen. Hope he wasn't a cook didn't look to professional who ever he was. Plus don't want someone slobbering over my food. Few staff members hustling other standing around...
I am on a low sodium diet. When I ordered, I informed the waitress that things need to be cooked with little/no salt and the sauce needed to be served on the side. The meal came loaded with salt (especially the string beans). The sauce was over the entree and not served on the side. Not only was the kitchen wrong but the waitress did not look at the meal before she brought it to the table. Unfortunately this was pre-show and there was no time to send the meal back. Talked to the manager who apologized but due to time limitations could not fix this.
Very convenient, comfortable restaurant and good, reasonable food. We usually go in combination with a movie, but we just wanted something close and casual, so Zaffiro's was our choice. Would highly recommend this to anyone that wants casual dining and a comfortable atmosphere.
We love thin crust pizza so Zaffiro's is spot on for us. They also have a great salad aptly named the Kitchen Sink.
I've found the ingredients to be very fresh and the wait staff is friendly. The create fun cocktails to go with current movies--we go here often.
We had been to Zaffiros before and had great food and great service. We were excited to start our evening there and were sadly disappointed when the food was subpar and the service albeit not the servers fault was less than what we expected. It was evident that the was a staffing shortage and we could empathize but when we approached the server about the Zaffiros signature potato chips she said, "I am trying to talk the kitchen into making more." It was 6:00 PM should have been a no-brainer. We ordered spinach dip that lacked flavor with very garlic toasts, the micro greens were not dressed and a Caesar salad that arrived early even though our request was both items to be delivered at the same time. The salad did not come with the greens we expected, it was iceberg lettuce and just tasted lousy. I am very disappointed with Zaffiros this time.
Have reviewed this restaurant before. A few years back they must have changed their pizza recipe because it's not the same as when they first opened up. They are now serving a much lower quality pizza. Crust is different, toppings are different. Not worth the money. Also the desserts have changed also since opening, it was a big mistake to change the dessert menu. I don't think I'll go back.
Recent changes are for the worse, dramatically worse. Fish are no longer served on friday nights (had been a popular staple). We chose sausage/green pepper pizza instead. It took 40 min to get the pizza and over 50% of the cut pieces had no sausage or green pepper present. There was no flavor at all. These problems were never experienced prior to last Friday (and the dining room was not that busy). A further problem occurred when I tried to get a scotch at the end of the meal. Whereas Zaffiro's used to have a nice scotch selection (prior to last Friday), now there were only 2 choices and both were at the very cheap end of the spectrum (and not desirable scotches). It appears management has decided that cheapening the dining experience is a positive path forward. IT IS NOT!! We will try Zaffiro's again soon to see if this was a one-time problem or if it is now a permanent problem. If this is now a permanently cheap experience (tasteless food, slow service, vastly reduced wine quality and even worse reduction in scotch quality), we will not be back as there are many other choices for dining that are not competing for the "lowest grade dining experience in Mequon trophy".
This was my second time dining at this location and although the food is good, the service was slow and staff seemed clueless. We had to get our own silverware off another table after the pizza was delivered because the waiter didn't bring any and was busy chatting with other employees. My husband also had to go to the bar to get his own water.
We went to a movie on New Year's eve and stopped in for a pizza afterward. Because we made a reservation online through Open Table in advance we were able to bypass the line and were seated immediately. The pizza was as delicious as usual and was delivered promptly despite the holiday frenzy. Everything was terrific.
My friend and I dine here often, usually ordering a large pizza, and not just when we're there for a movie, because it's worth going just to have a meal. They are very accommodating about making half of the pizza with toppings to my request and the other half to hers. We still have enough to take home that we each get another meal out of our halves. And it's so good!
We started with the eggplant appetizer this time and it was also delicious.
Noise level varies, of course, by the crowd size, and it can be hard to carry on a conversation if those at the next table forget that not everyone in the place wants to hear their opinions (which we had the last time we were there.) However, that's the fault of the patrons, not the restaurant, and the food and friendly, efficient staff make it a good dining experience. We will be back again and again!
Not surprised that the food still holds the quality of the original Zaffiro's pizza - would have been very disappointed if it didn't. Sat 10 min before attended to by waitress, and that was only after we asked if someone could find our waitress. Once she recognized we were seated at one of her tables, she was very good with her service. Some of the tables for two in the restaurant are not placed well - seated at one initially but since it shared a narrow wall with a bus area, we asked to be moved.
Overall - very pleased with the experience.
Service is always reliable at this pre-or-post movie staple. Pizza is good, although I miss some of my favorite toppings that are no longer available. My only complaint is that there is always a draft because of the overhead fans ....and that you can't take your glass of wine into the theaters:-)
