Z Cucina di spirito Ratings and Reviews
This was our first time visiting, so we were not sure what to expect. The bar and appetizers were fabulous. The Oregon Pinot is excellent. The service was outstanding and the owner was so much a part of our experience. This is very rare, most establishments are run so poorly, due to the lack of involvement of the management or owner. The food we will have to say was just okay. We are fans of rib-eye steaks, but this one had no flavor at all... it tasted similar to a sirloin. There was no zing when taking a bite.
I am not sure if this is typical, or just a mistake. The red snapper was the same. No pizazz, but not terrible, both just okay.
If/ when we return, we’ll definitely try the pizzas or Italian entrees... maybe we’ll have better luck :)
Nice birthday evening at Z Cucina di spirito. It's a beautiful room and service here is very good and personal. Bartender made a mistake on my drink and it was fixed promptly and made well the second time. The food was very good but not five star because of the following quibbles - Caesar Salad was an unusual but uninspired and indifferently executed preparation, House made Italian sausage appetizer was served little more than lukewarm (why?). On the other hand, the Tortelli and sauce were superb as was the Swordfish special. And they served us a very nice complimentary birthday dessert. It's a pleasant, friendly place with very good food - could perhaps just use a little more inspiration on some of the final preparation in the kitchen to get to that five star rating.
This is my go to place for special occasions. I like that they have seasonal menus with old standards as well as creative options. We always start with the cheese board. I have a friend who is picky about tiramisu and gives theirs two thumbs up. I recently ordered the Wild Boar Duo which got rave reviews from all at the table...and I had a great lunch the next day.
Four in our party. None of us walked away impressed with our meals. My chicken parmigiana was very weird tasting and that same taste was in all the meals but couldn’t put my finger on it. Will not return. Service was great though.
Z Cucina is our favorite local restaurant for Italian-oriented fine dining. Compared to most restaurants, the noise level is low and kitchen noise isn't a factor. Season menu changes and specials are always interesting. Last summer green lip mussels from NZ were available. Our experience with wait people has always been top notch with smooth service and knowledgeable responses to our questions. Menu items that we recently enjoyed include the parmagiano risotto fritter appetizer, the shrimp and mushroom angel hair, and the smoked chicken pasta which was very smoky. Prices are reasonable for an up-scale menu and wine selection and drinks are good. Be sure to stop in early for an excellent happy hour.
It was an unbelievable experience. The ambiance of this restaurant is extraordinary. I fell in love with the place before I even got a drink. Customer service was great & the food...my God! Where do I start with the food. It was truly amazing & I’ll highly recommend this place for a date night or special occasion for sure but everyday dining is fine as well
First time trying Z Cucina, and we were all excited (group of 4). They called the morning of the reservation to confirm, and asked if a special occasion - a nice touch. We arrived and the owner sat us, engaged with us, and overall a nice step. Our server....................a touch above disappointing. The restaurant wasn't very busy for a Saturday evening, the owner actually shared that they had cancellations. But the server gave us one drink menu, came right back asking if we were ready to order drinks, and when we asked for another menu, she seemed......a little put off? But that ended up being the theme of the evening. She was constantly back to us to order quickly - whether drinks or appetizers or the meal - and then drinks again.
When the food came it was fantastic. Not sure how this was our first time, but it was. And everything looked fantastic and tasted even better. But as we were finishing, again the waitress was there trying to take plates that weren't empty. I could not figure out her rush: there was no wait, she had plenty of tables so she wasn't being sent home early. When we finished, she cleared EVERYTHING from the table, reaching over people, asking us to stack dishes, etc. Again, what was the rush? Dessert menus were dropped and before we had picked them up, she was there wanting the order. Again, no idea on the rush. Finally my wife snapped at her and said "no, we're not ready, please give us some time". Desserts were ordered, checks were dropped soon after the dessert was dropped.
As I said earlier in the post, the food was fantastic. The service? Not so much; and she wasn't new, she just seemed put off that we were there, or put off that she was there, or maybe both? Anyways, we'll be back. But in all honesty, if we're seated with the same waitress, I'll ask to be moved to a different section. A meal that is that good, that creative, should be enjoyed and not rushed through.
We'll be back, for sure.
We were warmly greeted by the host and quickly seated. Service was reasonably fast and adequately friendly, but we were a bit underwhelmed by the food. I'm a beer guy, but if you don't like IPAs, then there weren't many alternatives (dark beers for the winter?). The olive oil and balsamic vinegar served with the bread had way too much cracked pepper. My first taste resulted in a minor coughing fit from a large pepper grain lodged on my throat. For dinner, my wife ordered the Lasagna and it was extremely soupy with excess sauce; you almost needed to eat it with a spoon. I had the Grilled Portobello Mushroom pasta dish and, like the bread oil, it suffered from a heavy-handed dose of pepper. We'd probably give Z Cucina another chance, but we weren't thrilled with this visit.
We previously had a not-so-great experience at Z Cucina. Rick went above & beyond to turn that experience around. Our service, food & the ambiance were all outstanding. We will definitely be back again. I can't say enough wonderful things about Rick!
We had another great meal and experience at Z’Cucina. With all of the options available in Grandview, this is still our favorite! We have never had a meal that wasn’t outstanding. While the focus on their menu is Italian, my wife had a peppercorn ribeye that was “to die for”. I had a more traditional, but similarly great, chicken parmigiana. We look forward to our next visit in the near future!
Usually I have a limited number of menu choices since I must have a gluten free meal but here the waiter, upon checking with the chef, gave me a dizzying array of choices in addition to several pasta dishes available with gluten free pasta. A nice change but so many things sounded good it was a difficult choice! A good problem to have!
Our experience at Z Cucina was good overall. It always is. The food is inventive and fresh, always beautifully prepared and lovely. What was not good on this particular visit was the noise level coming from the bar. Z Cucina is, in my opinion, a lovely dining spot. It is not, nor should it be a sports bar. When we were there, a football game was playing on the televisions at the bar. (Leave the TV at home, kids. This is a restaurant. Sometimes it's nice NOT to have it blaring.) Ok, not my thing, but fine. Except that certain patrons couldn't help themselves but yell and cheer at the TV vis a vis the "game". Ugh. Not what I go out to dinner for. It made conversation difficult, and was inappropriate public behavior in this kind of an establishment. Feel free to label me a snob or snooty or whatever else you want, but I really wonder why we need a television in a fine restaurant.
A delightful and ever-so-accommodating restaurant with excellent and friendly service. The waitress was very helpful with our dietary restrictions and with our 4-year-old child;s needs. I was so pleased that my son-in-law's dietary restrictions were met, and he was thrilled with his food. Furthermore, the rest of our party received excellent food which was served with beautiful plating ; overall, this was a great experience. Thank you, Z Cucina.
Do not miss out on experiencing Z Cucina! Every time we're in Columbus, Z Cucina is a must. The food and service are outstanding and the owner, Rick Z makes everyone feel like they are guests at his home. The menu rotates seasonally to take advantage of fresh local ingredients and also includes traditional Italian items. Don't miss this local gem!
Our server was very nice, however lacked training. He did not go over any of the specials, we had to flag him down when my beverage was empty to order a glass of wine (despite passing our table many times), my Cauliflower & Spaghetti Squash entree came without the spaghetti squash.
