The waiters were nice but service was slow. Food was just okay, not the best I’ve had.
Returned here for another birthday celebration. Not much of a crowd initially given the snow/sleet but then more showed. Couldn't tell it was loud or not as we were the loud group of 7. Saw someone with a baby so could be kid-friendly too. Loved the sushi and the tapas style Japanese pub food. Some of it, like the cod is more like a meal, but don't forget to order some rice as it won't come with it automatically. Not a huge cocktail menu, but enjoyed my pisco concoction and others in the group enjoyed theirs too. They were out of one favorite tea, but others enjoyed theirs (cherry blossom for one and jasmine for the other. Attentive waiter who was not afraid to say, you might be ordering more than you think (it was a bit much at the end, but we pulled through). All were pleased with their foods. Will definitely come back, nice alternative to other establishments in Bethesda which get crowded and loud quickly and parking is close by too.
Incredible sushi though service was not 100%. Waitress asked us to repeat our order which made us believe she was not listening the first time. Then parter’s entree was served a good 5-10 min before my entree arrived... and THEN we got served our appetizer. The manager seemed very nice though and at least the food was execllent.
Amazingly bad with ice cold sushi rice. Poor udon broth that tasted like an instant mix.
Embarrassing and in this day and age they should be ashamed of what they serve. Avoid at all costs.
The sushi was DRY....the rice was DRY....like it was made the day before. This was a Sunday, and we were the only people there for a noon business lunch.
Would not recommend going there Sunday. Perhaps during the week, the food is fresher.
Did not complain, as I was there on a "pitch"...and one never complains to the restaurant if one's food is bad when in a business sales situation.
Great food and service. Fun place to start ringing in the new year.
terrible service-30 minutes before we got asked about what drinks we wanted. sushi smelled questionable so didn't even get to eat. waiter seemed to care less about us
Very underrated. The restaurant was pretty empty for a Saturday evening, but the sushi... DELISICIOUS! Such great quality fish! I mean really really good! Also their matcha cheesecake was amazing! I 100% recommend!
this was my third timing eating at Yuzu, and the food was excellent, as it consistently has been. unfortunately, i was there with 2 friends and we each ordered different things. the person who ordered a noodle soup dish had it served first, and we expected that the 2 sushi dishes would follow shortly. they didn't. after a reasonable waiting time, i pointed this out to the waiter, who told us that they only had one sushi chef at work and we was not able to keep up with the number of dishes ordered. i pointed out that he shouldn't have served the soup dish if he knew that the sushi would be delayed, leaving one of us with the choice of eating while we watched (which we urged him to do) or waiting and having cold soup. the waiter agreed with me, but gave no explanation or apology.
because this was lunch and they may not have anticipated the number of customers who showed up, i'll give them one more chance to demonstrate that they can give good service. i'll recommend them for their food, but will warn people about the service.
From the start, YUZU is convenient, barely a block from the Bethesda Metro Station. I had a Hot Pot full of chicken, tofu, fish and a tasty broth. Yummy! My companion had a vegetarian Udon noodle bowl which was very filling. I had a salmon/avocado roll which was perfect. YUZU is a great sushi parlor.
Pleasant dining experience with varied Japanese options.
Good place. For some reason, underrated. But the place is authentic, has some dishes you won't find anywhere else and the sushi is as good as anywhere else.
delicious food; great variety of options; nice environment; will return
Excellent Japanese Cuisine!
Quiet setting. Not a fan of TVs in a restaurant.
Sunday afternoon, from 6 to 7 PM and we were the only ones in the restaurant.
At best: Meh.
Ok, so this was in June of 2017 and my son was in the envision© school. Anyways, on with the review. So in 2 Words, Horrible Food. Everything else was very nice, but that is just atmosphere and aesthetic. For taste, I'd give it 3 1/2 stars. But then, when me and my son were at our hotel the next day, he said "I feel very sick", and puked all over the floor. I remembered the roll we got was the "Chef's Special Roll: Lobster, I feel like they gave both of us bad rolls because I had the same thing and I puked as well. Good service and ice cream was made fresh. That ice cream was very good though.
Yuzu is better than you'd ever guess from how empty it often is. I'm not sure whether it just hasn't yet been fully discovered or doesn't have enough things that make it really stand out -- but the food is consistently good to very good and the service is very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The eggplant dengaku and various tofu dishes (agedashi, dengaku) are among the best versions of those dishes we've had. The yuzu ice cream is simple but delicious, and I haven't seen it at many other Japanese restaurants. And it's quiet enough that you can actually hold a conversation without having to raise your voice. As Bethesda begins to fill up with chains, Yuzu deserves more attention.
we went for lunch on a Sunday, and they have some good combos, as well as items from the regular menu. The sushi and rolls were tasty, with high quality ingredients. Service was good, and the prices were fair given the quality of the food and the Bethesda location.
Underrated place. They have a couple of dishes that you wouldn't find in other sushi places. Nigiri portions were a bit small though.
Meh. Nothing horrible, but nothing great either; and for the prices the charge for sushi, it ought to be fabulous!
I went there with my wife and my son.
We were very confortable.
We enjoyed Sushi set and Udon.
They are perfect for us.
The food and service is good. There was nothing that made it really stand out but nothing that was wrong either.
This is our favorite Japanese restaurant - the sushi is delicious and the service is always prompt and attentive. We eat here almost every week.
This is becoming our new favorite sushi place. Perhaps not as trendy as some of the competition, but from a food perspective, I'd say it's the best sushi we've had in Bethesda. Recommend the Aburi Five, 5 pieces of sushi seared with a blow torch.
Nothing fancy, but good, fresh sushi and udon. Quick too.
We went for dinner and were very disappointed with the food. We had a few different tempura dishes that lacked flavor. We had a sashimi sampler and found the fish was not fresh and the texture was tough. The chef's roll was not bad. Desert was disappointing. We ordered mochi ice cream -a favorite of ours. The strawberry flavor was excellent. The green tea flavor mochi was stale tasting and the the mochi was hard. The whole meal was very expensive for the quality of this food.
The service was very good and the restaurant is pleasant and comfortable. They need to bump up the food quality.
Good Japanese food at a reasonable price - and ample too.
Amazing experience and fresh food! Atmosphere is fresh and fun. The highlights include the salmon carpaccio, gyoza appetizer, chicken karaange, and the chef's roll! The hospitality is so authentic Japanese!
This was my second time and they establishment. I am coming back for high-quality sushi. As my guest was very late, we had lunch at 2 PM. At that time the restaurant is almost empty and quiet. Service is very good , The fish is fresh, and the sushi is masterfully prepared. The only thing is, the place is a bit drafty and chill. Overall, recommended for sushi lovers like myself.
Outside doesn't seem like much but the sashimi is high quality and delicious. We had the house warm sake which was decent, edamame, sashimi, salmon roll, and green tea ice cream. The ice cream was excellent- strong tea flavor and not too sweet. We will be back!
Food was excellent, very fresh fish and very good quality. Service was fast and discreet.
I have been to Yuzu during the day a number of times both for personal and business lunches. It is uncrowded and the sushi is fantastic. The staff is very accommodating and it feels like eating in a small eatery in Japan. Well worth the trip!
Went to Yuzu Christmas Day since it was one of the only restaurants open in Bethesda. Food was OK but service was terrible. We sat in booth opposite kitchen window which may have been the worst place to sit in restaurant.
We were sited in Avery uncomfortable table near the bathroom and poorly lit area at the very bs k of a restaurant and service was very poor ..it took forever to bring the our soup dishes out and than no one came around to refill water or tea and condiments for the soup were missing w no one to ask for them...it was not a supper busy time but I still think the waiters are nice polite but not well trained ...
That's a very unpleasant experience !
a little pricey, but the food was delicious. we were there for lunch, but ordered from the regular menu.
Excellent and attentive servers who anticipated our needs. We never had to ask for anything. The gyoza appetizer was a little soggy - not crisp as I had expected, and it was a bit salty. The rest of the meal was excellent and beautifully prepared.
We always have a great meal at Yuzu. The miso soup, the tempura, the chef's roll, the eel and avocado roll, the vegetarian bento box - etc. - all delicious. Great service and no wait to get seated.
Already a favorite. Interesting sushi and other items menu.
Loved it! Great food and service!
Liked everything. Pricey, but the food was amazing.
