About

Yunaghi is an authentic Japanese restaurant. This is an extremely popular place for diners to enjoy classic Japanese cuisine. So much so, that OpenTable.com awarded Yunaghi a Diner's Choice award in 2015 and it also received the honor of being named Best New Restaurant by Toronto Life magazine. The menu is also seasonal, so diners can expect a complete overhauling of the menu as the seasons change, bringing new flavors with it. This gives guests an even better reason to come back.

Yunaghi's menu definitely has some international influences, but at its core it is very fundamentally Japanese. For instance, there is a very wide variety of sake's for guests to sample, but should diners want a nice glass of Italian red wine, they can get that too. While Yunaghi offers an a la carté menu, the best way to experience a meal here is with the prix fixe multi-course tasting menu so you get a bit of everything the kitchen has to offer.

Sad as to how empty it was on a Saturday night. Very attentive and friendly service. The $50 tasting menu with saki pairing was more than adequate for all of us and was beautifully presented. Nice thing about an empty restaurant with tranquil surroundings is how nice it is to spend as much time as you wish and enjoying your company. I have previously tried the more expensive casing menus whichI don't see on menu any longer. Value wise we were all delighted and would return. As with all tasting menus, not all courses were universally enjoyed. That being said, there were no empty plates. Hope they attract more customers in the future.

Based on the review and photos, I was looking forward to some memorably delicious experience. First, they only have the $50/6 course tasting menu, the 9 course menu mentioned in other posts was not available. We picked up take out dinner somewhere else on the way home. But the most disappointing was their chirashi sushi. There was a few shreds of raw fish slap on top, not particularly fresh or appetizing looking. If they were indeed of great quality, they were so small that I cannot tell nor properly taste!

Very accommodation to dietary restrictions. Suggests they use bigger font size for their menus. Was difficult to read.

Yunaghi is one of the few Japanese restaurants in Toronto that cooks kaiseki-style meals. It's a tasting menu of several small dishes that brings-out the Japanese way of cooking - raw, steamed, braised, in one meal, and artfully presented. It is very authentic and healthy. There's a total of nine dishes in the $80 meal. For $100 there are an added wagyu tartare, sweet shrimp and lobster (bite-sized pieces among the nine dishes). The price is expensive, but there is much skill in the method of cooking and presentation, more so than in sushi. The only disappointment in the dishes was the chicken strips on a bed of rice wrapped with nori. Not much skill in the dish and tasted bland. The nori quickly lost its crispness in the hot rice. Taste of Tokyo in Toronto.

The food is absolutely fantastic; each dish on the tasting menu is an incredibly unique visual and edible creation. Highly recommended.

always inventive. I love that you can go and try new and unique things. Everything is always beautifully presented. There are always some big hits (this time the steak and lobster, kobe & tuna appetizers). The minor misses are still fun (sparkling tomato appetizer) and the kitchen is always inventive. Staff consistently great and attentive.

For the price, the portions were small. There were several dishes out of the Kaiseki tasting menu that were impressive but we were disappointed that we did not enjoy the flavour profile of many of the dishes. There are other Japanese restaurants in Toronto that more worthwhile unfortunately.

It is difficult to find authentic Japanese food in Toronto, especially kaiseki cusine. Yunaghi offers an excellent series of small plates which incorporate some Canadian ingredients but are created in Japanese style. Well worth another visit, especially since I assume the menu changes seasonally.

To cutdown food waste and save money, it seems like abandon à la carte menu is the trend across high end restaurants. I am not sure if Toronto eaters are ready for this trend. I personally had been to this restaurant 3 times. The latest was the Tues of this week, I love to take a friend there next week however which means I am going to have to repeat the food I already had. I always have to wait till they have a new menu coming.

This is the first time I visited this restaurant. It is a small little cosy resturant located at the corner of Manning and Harboard. It can seat about 30 people including the bar seats. Our waitress was pleasant and explained what each dish is (except she has heavy accent and sometimes hard to understand what she said). Each dish is nicely presented and the taste is not overwhelming, therefore you will be able to taste the freshness of the food itself. It will be good if the portion size can be a bit bigger, the menu can include a more detail description of the composition of the dish and the wine list that is paired for the dishes.

If you are expecting authentic Japanese food, this place is not the right place. This is neither Sushi place nor Izakaya/Ramen place. Their style is very unique, yet definitely worth to try. I have to come back every time they change its menu.

Took out my wife for her birthday, considering the price. We paid $80 and $100 each for the tasting menu + $45/each for the drink parings. We've done a number of amazing Japanese Omakase tasting menus over the years and were pretty let down.

The restaurant's overall look and vibe is below average for this price category. I expect there to be clever design and a much nicer atmosphere. The service was great, kind staff, but the quality of the dishes were underwhelming. I think if the vibe, and atmosphere were better it could be a better experience.

It was my first time at Yunaghi and I had a wonderful dinner there.
Food, every single dish, was great and "wow".
Presentation was perfect.
Service was charming and well thoughtful.
Sake Pairing was perfect matching.
And all staff, servers as well as kitchen staff, had smiles on their faces all the time.
It worth paying $100+more and I definitely will come back.

They will make your night something special for sure.
This is a must go place for everyone!

It definitely brought me the most special Japanese Gastronomic dining experience I have ever had on this special weekend of mine! 9-courses tasting menu is well worth it! Highly recommend to anyone who would like to have all six-senses food adventurous experience, this is the place for you!

The food was so so at the restaurant. Way over price for what they offer.

The ambiance of the restaurant is pretty much like the $15 all you can eat buffet restaurant. Not something that you would associate with a high end restaurant.

I read good review before deciding to visit the restaurant but I can tell by my first hand experience this place is terrible.

The service was terrible. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.

Didn't go with high expectation but was still quite disappointed . Five star for the service and the food presentation . The waitress always smiles. But the food itself was only one star level. Kept hoping the next dish would be better but all dishes were mediocre or below average in terms of taste. The cod was dry and wasn't very fresh . The foam wasn't successful in my opinion. There was no taste at all. The steamed egg custard was too dense. The rice ball and sushi were below average. Portions were expected to be small. They were really small. I left hungry and unsatisfied. Not worthy of the price.

A couple of highlights, like the salmon and the mackerel. Overall, the food looked prettier than it tasted. The soup was served only warm when it should have been hot. Same with the main beef dish--luke warm. Nothing spectacular, but they treated us very kindly and sincerely.

Decided to try Yunaghi last week on the backs of the stellar rating and reviews on Yelp and Open Table. We had the $80 menu and were not overly impressed. The service was great and attentive, timing of food was spot on, some of the cooking techniques were sound, and plating was nicely done. However, the food and flavours did not overly WOW me. Beef cheek was dry and stringy. The stuffed salmon was a highlight. The restaurant was a tad empty at a typically busy time for most.

I much more enjoyed the experience at Kaji, and Tojo's in Vancouver.

I think the value was there, being only $80 for 9 dishes, but in my opinion, not Michelin-star worthy as another reviewer claimed. I may visit again as this might have been an off night.

We had an okay meal at Yunaghi but the food just seemed okay. Ingredients didn't seem to be very fresh and the hot food wasn't really served hot.

When we went, Yunaghi offered a 7 course and a 9 course option. We chose the 9-course, but opted not to have the $50 paired drinks and instead each picked out a delicious cocktail from the menu.

The meal was kaiseki style, and absolutely delicious. Each course was small and precise, with all the attention to texture, colour, and flavour that kaiseki is supposed to be about.

Definitely recommended if you have a reason to treat yourself. Our dinner for two, with two cocktails plus tax and tip was $300.
