About Yoshi's Oakland
Yoshi's has served Japan's best traditional dishes to Bay Area patrons since 1972. The menu highlights artfully arranged sushi, fresh grilled seafood, classic Japanese dishes, and vegetarian fare. Patrons can kick off their shoes in the traditional Japanese tatami seating or dine at tables. Expert sushi chefs create sushi and sashimi to order either in the restaurant or in the jazz house. Start the evening in the cocktail lounge before dinner or have a nightcap after taking in a show in the jazz house.

Yoshi's Oakland Ratings and Reviews
Yoshi’s is the perfect venue to have dinner and see your favorite artist perform. I appreciate that our table was ready when we arrived. The seating in the dining area allows for nice views of Jack London square. The occasional Amtrak that passes by is very unobtrusive if your in deep conversation. The staff will keep your table clear at all times and make you feel right at home. Best to not fill up on dinner as there is an interesting assortment of desserts to choose from. The beauty of Yoshi’s is that if you are seeing a show and having dinner, you can request your show seating while checking in for dinner, two birds with one stone. Always a good time.
I love going to Yoshi's for the live entertainment. I have never been disappointed and the food is very good. There's a little something there for everybody. The staff is very helpful and transition you from dinner to the live shows very orderly. Everyone was very professional. It is an experience that makes you want to come back.
We came for a birthday and saw a show there as well. We had been there several weeks before and had a handcrafted cocktail that the server did not know. She went to the bar and inquired with the bartender to see what it was. They were able to replicate the drink and the food was great. We also had great seats for the show! Will definitely return.
Food was okay, and overpriced. Sashimi was worth.
Shrimp tempura wasn't crunchy or flaky, and neither was the tofu starter.
The Japonese roll was solid, but price and quantity make it an okay item.
Seaweed salad wasn't bad.
Finished the meal in 30 minutes but waited 20 to pay and get the check.
Great meal and great show at a great location.
We had the vegetable tempura, grilled salmon, 49ers roll, california roll, and a few other dishes. Everything was wonderful, plus eating dinner at Yoshi's got us reserved seats for the music event.
We really enjoyed the Pacific Mamba Orchestra. Great horns, drums, singers, and piano player.
Over 20 people on stage at one time but they all worked together. What a wonderful night of food and music.
This was a special occasion dinner so the table location was perfect, and guests loved the menu and wine list. Oysters and hamachi were standouts as appetizers; we had a big group, so got to sample a delicious sauvignon blanc, Malbec, and sparkling wine. Yoshi's was also very helpful reserving seating for the show, which was amazing.
Overall, Yoshi's was great, and I would definitely return for a dinner and show. In the future I might opt to do appetizers and drinks beforehand (we got to the performance a bit late while waiting for the check) and a full dinner after, or have dinner before a later performance (10pm instead of 8pm). Yoshi's is an Oakland gem!
This is our favorite restaurant in Oakland. We come here quite often and love that it accommodates us both, being a vegan/carnivore couple. Service has always been great. We appreciated that even their New Year's pre-fix menu had vegan/vegetarian option that was actually $30 less than the regular menu.
Yoshi’s is a great restaurant. Both times I’ve gone I’ve also had tickets to a show (Brian McKnight August 2017 and Goapele December 2017). The servers are great at reserving your seats for the show. The earlier you get to dinner, the better your seats will be for the show. It was a preset dinner menu on NYE but most of the options were good. Overall it’s a nice place wth great windows. The train passes by but that’s a minor noise factor. The restaurant plays house music but it was so loud on NYE we couldn’t really hear it. If I’m in Oakland again, I will definitely go back.
Yoshi’s provided a fantastic dining experience before a beautiful show. The reason I give it 4/5 overall is docked for “Ambiance” because the speakers in the show room need work. We were sitting in the third row on the left, and the bass was muddy and too loud.
Yoshi’s is still a great venue for a fine dinner and a show.
We had a wonderful time at Yoshi's. The food was delicious and the service was great. We had dinner before seeing the Goapele show and were able to get reserved seats for the show in the 2nd row. I would definitely recommend Yoshi's for the food, service and, if you are seeing a show after dinner, for the reserved seating.
Love Love Love this place, the food was amazing and seasoned perfect. The Beef Scewers are bomb. Had my birthday dinner then saw Goapele perform. If you eat before the show they will sit you in front of the stage and reserve it for you and your group. Great food
Waiter wasn't very attentive, forgot my drink, called another waiter for assistance and he seemed like we were disturbing him. The waiter came back to check up on us when we were almost done with our food, the multiple times we needed her prior she was not present. Definitely did not have a good experience first time dining at Yoshi's.
Yoshi’s used to be a LOT more cutting edge and reliably excellent. I have been dining here before shows for years, and this year has felt like a decline. I am a lifetime restaurant pro, and it feels as though they no longer have a real chef in the kitchen, and standards have slipped. We ordered a Spider Roll and it came to us cold; I am certain the softshell crab had been fried much earlier and then made into a roll when we ordered it. You could feel and taste congealed fryer oil, it was inedible. Mgmt did remove the charge, and replaced it with another roll. It was OK, nothing more. I love getting good seats for the music by getting a table at the restaurant first; maybe next time only an appetizer or 2 instead of a full dinner. Way too expensive to be only mediocre. Still superior service, however. Kudos for that.
The best thing about Yoshi's is the music! The performance, like many I've been to, was incredible. I ordered Sushi, it was good but not special. It lacked the creativity that some restaurants in the Bay Area offer. The service was simply poor. The food came out in very random order. The Miso soup never made it to the table, and I had to ask about it most of the way through the meal. The beef skewers appetizer never came, despite me reminding the waiter half-way through the meal, and we just ended up cancelling the order. I ordered an extra Sake cup, that was delivered about 25 minutes later...
Since I really like the music, in the future, I will probably have dinner somewhere else, and just go for the performance.
The only reason to go to this restaurant is to secure decent reserved seating at the performances. This restaurant is not worth the price point as it's quite expensive for the chintzy quantity.
The tartare was barely a shareable size and oversalted! Having eaten Japanese cuisine my entire life, the cold soba noodles portion size was downright insulting. Do NOT bother to order this dish; it is NOT entree size and it costs $18! The saving grace of this restaurant is the outstanding server and the decent quality of the cocktails. Kudos to the bartender and to our server.
We frequent several restaurants at the same price point as Yoshi's that offer more refined Japanese/Asian fusion cuisine. This restaurant has so much potential if the back of the house would chill out on the salt and increase the quantity size by 25%, except increase the portion size on the noodles by 50% minimum. Maybe the saltiness levels are intentional so we order more cocktails?
Some highpoints: the visually pleasing food presentations will not disappoint. The calamari was fried to perfection and still soft, tender and temperature hot when presented at our table. It was truly a high point of our meal.
So this restaurant is more for the convenience and the reserved seating benefit. And eat at home before going to this restaurant!
