About Yoshi's Oakland

Yoshi's has served Japan's best traditional dishes to Bay Area patrons since 1972. The menu highlights artfully arranged sushi, fresh grilled seafood, classic Japanese dishes, and vegetarian fare. Patrons can kick off their shoes in the traditional Japanese tatami seating or dine at tables. Expert sushi chefs create sushi and sashimi to order either in the restaurant or in the jazz house. Start the evening in the cocktail lounge before dinner or have a nightcap after taking in a show in the jazz house.

We loved the food especially the sea bass & the shrimp & scallop fritters. Delicious!!!! Love eating there when we're going to a show so that our seats are secured for us.

Yoshis is doing a great job maintaining quality and consistency over so many years. Everything we had was A+ and our server Nick made the evening very enjoyable.

Dining room is beautiful, but tables are packed closely and it is very noisy and hard to hold a conversation or hear wait staff.

Food is delicious. It is a bit pricy but not over the top. We went there to eat before a concert.

The concert was good but super loud where we were sitting (over 105 db according to our cell phone apps). The concert was a sell out, We had booth seating, which is more comforable than the cabaret chairs, but with 5 plus size people in the booth it was very cramped, and leg room was non-existant. The venue is small and intimate so you are really close to the artists.

We really enjoyed all of the food we ordered - shrimp tempura and sushi rolls were all good and the nigiri were really great! My only negative was the music being played in the restaurant was too loud -- made it difficult to interact with our server at times.

The food at Yoshi's was exceptional, and they were accommodating when we asked to change our seat away from the window because it was cold.
The wait people were attentive and concerned with our experience.
The one negative is that from time to time the music would get very loud, but then would get quiet again.

Food was great just hoped for a little more portions. Only bad thing I can say is that Caltrains passes right in front of the restaurant blowing its horn. Can’t fault the restaurant for that.

Good mix of food. Everything was tasty. I was expecting more Japanese food, but found plenty of items that I liked. Plan on getting reservation 2 hours before the show, if attending.

Outstanding restaurant. We had two exemplary seafood entrees, black cod, and risotto with scallops. Hamichi starter also a winner. Excellent wines and beer. Then world class jazz show. Excellent birthday celebration.

Very efficient wait staff who got our food out quickly so we could see the show.
Food, as usual, very good.
only complaint is that the noise level is way high. I would call it cacophony rather than "energetic".
hard to hear our table mates and tables very close together.

To be honest, the only reason we eat at Yoshi's is to get a better table for the live music shows. The sushi is not very inventive, although it is fresh. The sauces are quite spicy, which we don't like. The menu is small, very few choices outside of the sushi. The one standout item on the menu is the miso caesar salad, which is excellent. The service is not particularly good, although I realize they are making sure we get our meals before the show begins. Also cocktails are not very cold.

Classic favorite in Oakland for drinks, dinner and live jazz music. Often very crowded and service sometimes rushed. Food had improved, good sushi. Original table was in middle of traffic isle but hostess moved us to a more intimate table.

We went for dinner before a show. I was concerned because it seemed so busy when we we arrived and there was a line for check in. But things moved rather quickly. Our server was very helpful and gave great suggestions for drinks and food. Each dish was good looking and very tasty! And we were exactly on time for our show.

I like that we had assigned seats to our concert since we were having dinner at Yoshi's. But it would have been better if we got priority seats in the front section. We got seated in table 48 all squeezed together and the waiters would bump into my chair suggesting me to move....what? Not cool!

Everything was good except for when I went to pay for our dinner. The waiters and manager lied and said that they were running my bank card which kept declining. When I contacted my bank Wells Fargo was informed that the card had not been ran through the system for Yoshi's. I ended by using the ATM inside of Yoshi's to pay for our dinner.

The waiters and the manager were very unkind to me when it came to me paying for my dinner. On top of this it took 30 minutes for me to pay for our dinner which cost us to be 20 minutes late for the show of El Debarge at Yoshi's. We will only attend the Yoshi's in San Francisco going forward.

Menu could use a refresh!

Besides the sushi, the rest of the menu could use some more traditional Japanese dishes like noodles and other izakaya style offerings.

primarily went as seeing an act at the adjoining jazz club. Food is fairly good. Service was at best average. Because they are pushing customers through to meet the show deadline the staff are at full stretch. We waited a long time between starter and mains, had to chase for a second drink and then ask again - still slow in coming. Considering we were having sashimi as main, which is not exactly challenging for a Japanese restaurant, it was surprising it was slow. This said the Fish was good. We made the mistake of ordering a dessert (Creme Brûlée) which was poor. Ordered with 20 minutes to spare and it arrived with about 2 minutes to eat it before having to go into the show. Given the brûlée was already made it either needed to br brought more quickly or the server should have advised against it given the time delays. If you are going to the venue for a show then I would recommend as a reasonable place for dinner and makes an overall nice night. Arrive with plenty of time if you don't want to rush your meal or just do one or two courses. If you like Japanese and are in Oakland then again not a bad choice but if you are looking for a special dining experience then probably wouldn't be my first choice.

Whenever we see a show at Yoshi's we have dined at the restaurant. In the past, the food and service were very good. Unfortunately, this was not the case this time. After enjoying some wine and appetizers, my guests and I placed our dinner orders. Liking sushi and sashimi, I ordered a couple of different raw fish dishes as my entree. My guests all ordered hot items. Clearly, despite our various entree choices, we all intended to eat our dinners together. Instead, within minutes, my sushi and sashimi began to arrive. I explained to the food runner, who happened to be the host, that we were eating together. The runner/host asked me if I had told our server that I wanted my sushi and sashimi prepared and delivered at the same time as my guests hot meals. I was astounded that she felt the burden was on me to explain to our server that we wished to dine together. Rather than concede the server's error, she suggested that the error was mine. I finally convinced her that she would need to take the sushi and sashimi back and deliver a fresh order at the time the hot food was ready. All good, right? Not so fast. We then waited nearly 40 minutes for our entrees to arrive, even though the restaurant and our server knew we were going to the show. It was too bad that the host and the dining room undermined the kitchen's performance. Nevertheless, we left a 20% tip.
