A birthday dinner, which was not recognized by the staff even through I indicated it on the open table reservation and told the host upon arrival. A total disappointment
Everything about our dinner before the Lisa Fischer show last Thursday was beyond our expectations. Our server was excellent, the food was excellent, and the efficiency of handling our tickets and getting us good seats was also excellent. We look forward to more nights at Yoshi's Oakland.
Yoshi’s is so consistently excellent. The sushi could not be more fresh and the cooked dishes (particularly the scallops) are excellent. Portions are also decent. I just wish it wasn’t so expensive so we could afford to go more often. Plan on around $150 per couple w/drinks.
We make a trip a year to Oakland primarily to go to Yoshi's. The food is always good and the music is great. It makes for a really great evening!
Good place to grab a bite before a show. Food is decent but don't know if I would go there just to eat if I weren't attending a show as well.
Perfect night - dinner and great music. Seating is a little cozy but otherwise a wonderful venue.
One of the most under-rated restaurants in the Bay Area. Always excellent AND very generous portions. Beyond that they save prime seats for you in the nightclub, if you have tickets for one of their 7-dys/wk jazz concerts (which are outstanding). GO!
We always have dinner here before the show. The wait staff are friendly, efficient and make sure you finish your meal, get your show seats, and pay your check without feeling rushed. I’ve had more inspired sushi elsewhere but it’s consistently good.
Always wanted to try Yoshi's for dinner, and I wasn't disappointed. Now I want to come back for a show!
Was disappointed by prix fix menu - not very Japanese
The main course- filet mignon- was tasteless and we didn’t eat it. To their credit they reduced our bill accordingly.
This is a place which we have always found to be great. Hopefully not a trend.
$50 of food for $200
They weren't at all prepared for the number of reservations they'd taken. It was SUCH a cold night, and the line to get in through the door, just to give them our name for the reservation, was very long and the wait seemed interminable. Everybody in line had a reservation and they had nowhere enough staff to cope.
Horrible. I was never told it was a prefix menu on Valentine’s Day. Never got email or call. I don’t do anything prefix ever because my wife is a bariatric patient and we both have lots of food issues. We can usually navigate around sushi. Asked for a manager and waited 20 minutes. We had to leave or we would not have gotten any food since my wife has to wake up early for work. I called the manager after we left and he said it was too bad that we booked show and dinner and now we’re out $300 dollars on my credit card. He said next time read. Complete jerk and horrible treatment. Why would I ever book something knowing we could not eat there! Thanks for the horrible treatment and service. I’m certain you made upwards of a quarter mill in one night, you would not lose anything by giving us our money back. Plenty of people were waiting to eat. I’ll never go back to you establishment. Not ever.
Valentine’s Day menu was expensive for what you get. $85 for 5 courses sounds good in theory. In reality, first course was a piece of tofu, pretty good but small, salad and dessert were mediocre. The dessert was a piece of chocolate cake worse than the one you get from Safeway. Sashimi was mostly very good, and we enjoyed our entrees ok, although lobster risotto was super sweet, which tasted odd. Mainly go if you want to see the show afterwards, which was very convenient and excellent.
We went to Yoshi's for a pre Valentine's dinner and concert. Had the calamari and 49er sushi.
We both shared and enjoyed both the dinner and show.
Decent but not memorable Sushi and Sashimi in extremely noisy and crowded mess hall setting. Didn’t try their other foods but I doubt if we missed much. I’m glad we tried it but never again
The service was just okay. When opened a bottle of wine, the waitress just poured our glasses without letting us taste the bottle first which is customary when ordering a bottle. The guests at other table had their belongings on our table and the hostess instead of asking them to move their things left us to deal with them which allowed for them to have an attitude with us when we asked them to move their jackets from our table etc. While the food and atmosphere suggest a certain price point , the service did not.
On the plus side: Had a good meal with friends before seeing a concert.
On the down side: I shared my food allergies with the server but she did not give me a lot of confidence that my food was going to come out correctly. She was not subtle about upselling us to increase our tab.
Nice dinner with friends before the show. Food ranged from okay to very good. Service was good. They did a good job of getting us fed and in to see our show. Sea bass and risotto were hits. Salmon was okay.
food quality OK but not worth going back for. can get same or better quality elsewhere for same price with less noise, could not talk to to others without shouting .
We were very pleased with our dining experience. Service and food were top notch. My only complaint was this super annoying woman at the next table. She was exceedingly loud.
We made a reservation for dinner for we purchased tickets for the show due to a Recent good experience we had for a previous dinner and show . Upon arrival we were greeted with courtesy. Our server was great and prompt. This past evening 2/10 reservation started awful . Greeted by young uncourteous hostess . We were seated in the middle of 2 large groups which was so noisy ! Then bus girl moved us and server was totally scattered with his service. Order taking was prompt but our food especially appetizer was cold n sushi was below standard . Server forgot my wine until the end of my dinner and water was not refilled and was asked upon when the bus person finally came by . We inquired re our seating for the show and was told by he that he didn't want to mess up the process for it was handled as upon check in. When we got the check we had no seating arrangement in place we had to wait in the general line to find out they did put block 2 seats completely in the back , mind you backed up to the wall . This recent dinner and show was bad experience considering our dining experience in December. This re evaluates the dining incentive they have in place . If it was not for the live music shows we enjoy, we would not be dining there and spending our hard earned money for the overpriced food . Safeway sushi is better than what we ate that evening . We normally don't review unless we totally had a terrible experience and this was it .
This was my birthday date nite and it was great. The food was great and the people were full of energy because of the concern, which I did attend as well. The show was Fantastic, and I can hardly wait to attend another event here!!
I had a awesome night. We bought tickets to see Con funk Shun. The only down fall is I want to reserve a both. How can I reserve a both for the next event.
This was the 1st time I was disappointed with the service at Yoshi's our food was cold including coffee. It was too close to show time to send it back. The server waited to long to get my seats so. My friends and I were smashed in a booth with a couple instead of at a table very uncomfortable.
Our second trip to Yoshi’s and it was as good as the first time. This is a great restaurant and even better that it has live entertainment available if you opt ($) for that. We saw to awesome “concerts” there and will be back!!!
This was our first time having dinner at Yoshi's --- food was excellent (server was friendly). LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE everything about this place. Was our 6yr anniversary ---We attended the show afterward dinner and was very lucky to get a great seat up front. My husband was so excited to see his very favorite band (Confunkshun) We will definitely will BE BACK and recommend HIGHLY oxoxo
Great time , a couple of years ago I had a injury to left foot which makes it hard to sit in the concert venue table . Your staff has always been accommodating in getting me the booth seating and that in it self is just awesome to say the least
Our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful with vegetarian options and pointed out what dishes may have come in contact with non-indians vegetarian dishes. Thank you!
Great service, but value for money was not there. Many other more reasonably priced options is the immediate area.
