This is at least our 10th visit to Yoshi's, so I figure they do deserve a positive review from me. We have excellent sushi in Alameda (Sushi House and East Ocean) but neither restaurant takes reservations. Yoshi's does which gives them a big step up in my ratings.
The interior is a very attractive, high ceilinged and light wood decor that can accommodate a large number of people without feeling too congested, even as people are arriving for or departing the adjoining jazz lounge (separate tix required).
The food is uniformly excellent, with a wide variety of sushi, nigiri and tempura as well as full size meals. They did offer unique rolls that we hadn't had elsewhere, like lobster and asparagus roll, shrimp and scallop tempura (cut in large frittata sized triangles with peppers and onions), and the Warriors' Roll which was eel, cucumber, avocado and aoli mayonnaise.
The white wine list featured only 1 Chardonnay, and my only other criticism was that the service was too fast, so that we were having to eat faster than we wanted just to keep enough space on the table for the additional plates to come.
For a restaurant that is so expensive, we should be able to take our time and eat at a relaxed pace.
The food was great. It was my sister-in-law’s birthday and her first time there. She enjoyed it very much. We all had a great time. My has been and I attend concerts there and the food there about 3 to 4 times a year.
Would have been nice to have had some wasabi and soy sauce with our sashimi order without asking for them. Felt awkward having to ask the waiter for these seemingly essential items.
Very nice time, except reservations were at 745 and our show started at 9. We did not get to order until 8:40 and others who arrived after us were already eating and seated at the show before us. We missed some of the show because we were waiting on our food.
Yoshi’s is the perfect venue to have dinner and see your favorite artist perform. I appreciate that our table was ready when we arrived. The seating in the dining area allows for nice views of Jack London square. The occasional Amtrak that passes by is very unobtrusive if your in deep conversation. The staff will keep your table clear at all times and make you feel right at home. Best to not fill up on dinner as there is an interesting assortment of desserts to choose from. The beauty of Yoshi’s is that if you are seeing a show and having dinner, you can request your show seating while checking in for dinner, two birds with one stone. Always a good time.
It was my first time eating and attending a show. I totally enjoyed it tremendously and will certainly be attending again. Thank you so very much!
I love going to Yoshi's for the live entertainment. I have never been disappointed and the food is very good. There's a little something there for everybody. The staff is very helpful and transition you from dinner to the live shows very orderly. Everyone was very professional. It is an experience that makes you want to come back.
Professional staff. Great Food, great time. Nice seating and great show.
We came for a birthday and saw a show there as well. We had been there several weeks before and had a handcrafted cocktail that the server did not know. She went to the bar and inquired with the bartender to see what it was. They were able to replicate the drink and the food was great. We also had great seats for the show! Will definitely return.
Restaurant and music venue are very tight. No privacy
