About Yoshi's Oakland
Yoshi's has served Japan's best traditional dishes to Bay Area patrons since 1972. The menu highlights artfully arranged sushi, fresh grilled seafood, classic Japanese dishes, and vegetarian fare. Patrons can kick off their shoes in the traditional Japanese tatami seating or dine at tables. Expert sushi chefs create sushi and sashimi to order either in the restaurant or in the jazz house. Start the evening in the cocktail lounge before dinner or have a nightcap after taking in a show in the jazz house.

Yoshi's Oakland Ratings and Reviews
I usually go to Yoshi’s for the live band but we made rsvp for dinner to make sure we get reserve seating for the show.
My review for the dinner experience only:
Food is just okay. I’ve had way better sushi for half the price.
Servers were attentive so cant complain.
I think the main complain i have is their check in process. There’s no clear signs if the line is for dinner or for the show and/or even if you have dinner reservations. If it’s your first time and you walk in straight to the counter, you will get lots of dirty looks from customers who are waiting...and the hostess doesn’t say anything.
Had dinner with my wife and 8yo son before the early Incognito concert and the wait staff was efficient, kind, flexible. The food (sushi and kid's bento box) was really good and definitely worth a recommendation. If only we lived closer (we're from the Portland area) we'd be visiting more often after this first, positive visit.
The concert venue was great as well, best quality sound I've heard and I've been to many venues, around the world. The seats we were assigned, a booth, was close to the stage but a little cramped for 5 people. The wait staff in the venue was awesome as well.
All in all, Yoshi's is a very nice place that I would definitely return to if the opportunity arises and it is also a place that I'd recommend to others.
I had one of the most interesting dining experiences in my life at Yoshi's!! The menu offered great sushi prepared by sushi chefs as you watch from your table, as well as scrumptuous cooked seafood and meat selections. The drinks were great. The service was great. The ambiance was great. The talent or show was not to my liking, but I was impressed concerning the restaurant's efforts to ensure that you enjoy both your meal and the show. Highly recommended!! Truly outstanding and civilized!!!
I am reluctant about ordering sushi again. Apparently, the menu had only a few choices but to order sushi-like menu. The wine was stale. I dined there a few years back and the food tasted so much better. Why did it change? The music (Tommy Dorsey Orchestra) was fantastic. I would go to Yoshi's for Jazz, but I don't think I'll dine at the restaurant. Sorry, I hope you improve your sushi making. The rice was pressed too hard and the it was not standing up. (like the Japanese would explain it) It did not taste like a Japanese-made sushi. Years back your sushi was great!
I've often eaten at Yoshi's before attending the jazz club venue with wonderful experiences both in dining and service...this reservation was the exception. After arriving close to 2 hours before Showtime and enjoying a $300 meal with friends...we were told 7 minutes prior to the show starting that they had screwed up reserving "excellent" show seats for us... which is one of the advertised perks of dining there ahead of time....and with a dinner bill that steep we thought that goof was poorly handled since zero compensation was offered. Very poor customer relations!
This was my first time at Yoshi‘s and it will not be my last I loved this place! Really wonderful atmosphere, excellent food with great service. Our server made great recommendations when asked and was totally on target. Then there’s the live music which was fantastic. A cabaret style, intimate venue with an exceptional sound system that showcased the talent, Robben Ford Band, in the best way. I will be a regular at Yoshis from now on
Yoshi's consistently provides a fantastic evening out. Their sushi rolls are heavenly, their starters are amazing, and the service is outstanding. If you're dining pre-concert, you'll never be concerned about finishing up dinner in time. It's one of our favorites!
Once again, Yoshi's comes through. Always a good time, with one of the Bay Area's best concert venues coupled with tasty food and cocktails making for a great night out. There is literally nothing I would not eat on the menu. We ordered family style so we could sample a wide variety and there wasn't a scrap left. Excellent service, and when you have dinner there, they go get your seats for the concert for you. While there isn't a bad seat in the place, the ones they got for us were perfect. I love this place!!
Sushi rice wet not cold not cured. They just have run out.
Salad ok beer salad
Two people no drinks over 100 dollars.
Sf location was better
They seem to have gotten lazy and less creative.
On the upside service was great and Victor Wooten was off the hook.
Yoshi's was a great dining + music venue as expected. Somehow, I'd thought the dining and the music would be in the same space, but not so. Two different tables. There is zero room for dancing inside, so not a good venue for more than sitting to enjoy the music.
My husband and I celebrated our 45th anniversary at Yoshi's. We especially enjoyed our Grey Goose pear cocktail, sushi, and nigiri. The very best part of the meal was the fresh, delicious sorbet with fresh blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries. Mmmmmm! So good! The service was impeccable; the food was delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Excellect service from start to finish!!
Hostess was so understanding when I called and said we would be 10 minutes late. Very nice! Thank you.
Had a wonderful dinner with a good friend. Seating was perfect, server was perfect also had ticket to see Peter White, server reserved great seats!! Peter White AMAZING as usual.
Very lively atmosphere on a Saturday night. Seems to be more of a jazz club that happens to have a restaurant, rather than a restaurant with entertainment. That being the case, the wait staff seemed to be spread thin and the appetizers came out before the drinks and even placing our entree order. Despite that, the service was friendly and the food decent and enjoyable. However, as far as dining experience, I would not recommend.
Yoshi's remains a beautiful dining destination in Oakland that attracts a diverse, lively crowd. The meal was delicious, wait staff very attentive, ambiance was elegant and modern, and you can attend a jazz performance before or after your dinner. I would highly recommend Yoshi's for date night.
Yoshi’s is truly an icon in the Jack London District. I have enjoyed this restaurant a few times before seeing one of the jazz shows (in the attached showroom next door).
Yoshi’s offers very high quality sushi. This is definitely not a restaurant where you will get ‘stuffed’. The portions are small, but as I mentioned, very high quality.
Yoshi’s is a solid goto venue for a light dinner before a show. The dining room was buzzing with patrons on this Saturday night.
My feeling was many of the customers had been there before. I look forward to visiting Yoshi’s again for the next show!
