Patrons can kick off their shoes in the traditional Japanese tatami seating or dine at tables. Expert sushi chefs create sushi and sashimi to order either in the restaurant or in the jazz house. Yoshi's Oakland Ratings and Reviews
went there to see the New York Voices who were appearing the night of Dec 10th. They were amazing. Enjoyed my dinner. I had the Seabass Good value, nice portion but sauce could have been a bit more interesting. My buddy had the pork chop. A little over cooked but again portion was well worth it. Service was very good, being in the industry myself I was highly impress. Will be back for both dinner and show
Over the years I have been to Yoshi's and I am pleased to see that it has remained a hot spot to dine & see great musicians perform in an intimate venue. I am always looking on the calendar to see upcoming performers. Keiko has been on the top of my list since i first heard her music. I will be looking forward to seeing her again when b she returns in 2018.
Came for the concert following the dinner. The dinner experience was not worth the money. The food was alright for what it was, but the timing was rather delayed - especially between dishes. The restaurant claims to be “family style” so that everyone dines on a dish at once; and the dishes come out sporadically. This is likely so they dont have to worry about bringing everyone’s meal out at once as we were waiting between 20 and 30 minutes per dish.
Many of the servers seemed lost and unsure of where orders would go.
Not worth attending for the allegedly reserved and planned seating at the concert - as our seats were still in the back.
Yoshi's is our "go to" spot whenever we come to Oakland for our date night. We arrived a little early, on a busy night. But, we were seated immediately! Our server was most attentive, as well as the rest of the wait staff. The Miso Caesar Salad could have been a meal by itself. Family style dining makes for a nice experience, allowing all at the table to enjoy meal options.
Arrived at 7:45 for dinner before a 9:30 show ( Keiko Matsui/Euge Groove great show). Our dinner was not at our table at 9:10. We had ordered a small sake and an order of sushi while waiting for our food. I cancelled dinner because we would have to eat very quickly and that didn’t seem right. They cancelled with no problem but did charge for the above mentioned items. I feel the least they could have done was comp us because we arrived on time for our reservation and yet did not receive dinner.
We have tried Yoshi's several times and honestly not sure we'll return. We arrived well before the concert we were attending so we could have a leisurely dinner. The food comes out when it's ready - which on the good side means it's not sitting on a counter. However, if the waiter says she/he is going to pace the items going in so they don't all come out at once....that won't happen. They'll come when they are ready. So unless you only order an item / course at a time, it's not going to be leisurely no matter what the person tells you. Although the waitstaff has always been pleasant and professional and seem to be running here/there working hard, just think this is a high volume place that makes it difficult for these folks. On each visit, there was something that went wrong. This time, ice bucket never came for wine bottle and one of our entrees never showed up. We told the person to cancel and as we were getting ready to go to the concert, it appeared. The food is certainly ok (we had edamame, salads and sashimi), for the price expected a bit better. We used to think that they gave preferential seating to diners, but our seat was in the back row (even though we arrived a little over 2 hours early).
Yoshi’s is up and down with their experience. Prior to this they had been up, but fell short of my expectations this time. I had reservations for 2. I was seated at 6:04pm and in 35 minutes I had only received water and no service, not even a cocktail order. After becoming HANGRY...we waved down a server from a different section and told him we had been waiting for so long and noticed people who came in after us had received drinks and appetizers while we had yet to be greeted. Finally our server shows up and only made up the differerence by giving us 1 free dessert on a 100.00 bill. To boot I had show tickets with hopes of good seating at the show and still ended up one row from back of the room. Seriously Yoshi’s you need to do better. If you can’t do better from the start at least figure out how to recover.
If Yoshi's did not have a music venue I would not be dining there due to the fact that there are other choices nearby with waterfront dining. The restaurant is a little overpriced for me but it is still a great venue that has a long history at Jack London Square and with the music shows, it is a fantastic spot to enjoy!
We have to drive about 1 1/2 hours to get to Yoshi’s...so when we come up for shows, it’s always natural to eat there as well...we always have great time there...service is better than ever, food is Always interesting and innovative...and delicious...great bar...and then in to see a great show!...it’s not easy for us, but we come up at least 2-3 times a year...and always have been super happy with everything!...thanks for maintaining such a high quality experience for so many years...
We had to wait 20-30 minutes for our order to be taken. My wife ordered a beer that never got delivered. The waiter blamed it on a new keg. Our food took a long time to be served and our water glasses never got refilled. The food was great once delivered but we were rushing to make the show.
Excellent service at Yoshi's; food is fabulous. We enjoyed a tasty meal with excellent server (Francisco) in a no rush environment before going to the 8 p.m. show.
Benefit of eating there, as well, is that we got excellent seats for the show afterwards. Thanks so much for a pleasant evening!
I’ve been coming here for concerts a few times in the past year. The food is asian fusion the gindara was tasty and the sushi sashimi was okay. The specials does not change much. I would like to see more seasonal type of dishes with the Asian fusion twist. Also, maybe a southern spin on some of the dishes that recognizes the season.
Great Food!! and Great performances by some of the world's renowed jazz performers!! I have always experienced exceptional customer service and professionalism by the restaurant and jazz club staff at Yoshi's until Sunday night, December 3. We were very disappointed in the jazz club staff on this occasion because they lost our seat reservations for the Johnathan Butler jazz performance at the 7p show. Opportunity abounds for improving communication between staff in Yoshi's Club and who were finger pointing on Friday night. More importantly, customers impacted by staff mistakes should be given a concession such as complimentary drinks, appetizers or even tickets to another jazz performance when they misplace a paid customers seat reservations from the restaurant.
The food was good, although i was disappointed that they couldn't make my favorite sushi roll which is no longer on the menu, even though they do it at less busy times. It was a bad decision to take it off the menu. The menu is limited if you're not having sushi. I didn't notice any catch-of-the-day, soup, and only one non-beef entree, chicken. Presentation is nice. I had the seaweed salad. A great deal of the non-sushi offerings aren't reasonable in price which affects value.
