It’s birthday month in our house. Came to Oakland to celebrate with my daughter who always has wanted to eat at Yoshi’s. It did not disappoint. The veggie tool and rainbow roll were amazing. I also loved the roll with lemon slices on top. Weekdays go early because the kitchen closes early for the jazz shows. This is a must go in Oakland!!
You can tell everything from the rice in sushi places. If they can't do rice, chances are they don't care about what they are doing. The rice sucked. In general it is overpriced mediocre sushi. Nice atmosphere, good wait staff.
Our server was very good as was our dinner. The show after dinner by the Jazz Bands of Northgate High of Walnut Creek was great!
I frequent this lovely venue several times a year as many times as I can afford the prices are phenomenal the best for less . The darling Gal at the Box Office always greets me with open arms and Dazzie on the Restaurant side greets me by my name. A very warm engaging friendly atmosphere I feel like their Family . The food is delicious the service top notch and the entertainment the Best in the West an overall win win experience can’t wait till the next show . Love love this Venue highly recommend it for cleanliness atmosphere ambience service friendliness and delicious food . Try it you’ll like it I guarantee you’ll be back! Terry Ann Coakley
Pre concert dinner and a show, The 5th Dimension. Great place for dinner and a show, Cabaret style jazz venue. Gets a little hectic in the dining room before the show. Overall a great time. Great food Great music. They got it down.
Our server was excellent. We were not rushed. My only question is how the seating go the show is determined. We are regular customers and go to the shows. We always have dinner first. The last 2 times we have been seated very far back and the couple seated with us both times did not enjoy their dinner with Yoshi’s. I always make the reservations in advance (shortly - within a week after I order the show tickets). Thank you for the wonderful experiences we had had. The food and entertainment are both amazing!
My family always enjoys Yoshi's - we have wonderful dinners prior to shows in the jazz club
I HAVE BEEN GOING TO YOSHI'S FOR YEARS SO FAR NOT 1 DISAPPOINTMENT!!!
It was louder than we would have liked but still enjoyed the overall experience. Will definitely be back (with ear plugs)!
We've visit Yoshi's often...always a "great date night, especially when we are there for a show also"!! Haven't been disappointed yet!!
Yoshi's is an excellent venue for any occasional I highly recommend it.
Normally would not eat at Yoshi's but came to see a performance and main motivation is that my son works at the Sushi Bar. Food was okay, slightly overpriced, Sushi Bar staff was excellent and attentive. But the server/s were slow and felt like they had too many tables and people to take care of on a busy Saturday night.
A little disappointing. We’ve heard a lot of good things about Yoshi’s however our experience over all was ok. Service was lacking by the waitress and couldn’t clearly tell us about some of the dishes. We mainly only saw her when taking our orders for drinks, dinners and desert. I’m pretty sure we sat the food runners, bus boys and water refillers more then her. By the end of the night we felt rushed, even after telling multiple staffers that we do not have tickets to the show and we are here celebrating a birthday. This might be a great spot for drinks and a show, but for dinner I think we will pass next time
Sushi should be made fresh. Yoshi's, in the interest of fast service for a theater-going crowd, served us readymade rolls which tasted OK, if not fresh.
Duck confit spring rolls and calamari were excellent. ordered 2nd round of each!
Great food and music venue.
We had a reservation for two at 8pm and were seated as soon as we arrived. The hostess was able to recommend a great dish for dinner. Service was prompt and attentive. The sushi was excellent. We were also seeing a show after dinner, so we received our seat assignment near the end of the meal. The music venue had a short line to get in and staff were available to help find assigned tables. The music venue has very tight seating. Four people share a small cocktail table. The back rows have taller chairs, and the front has regular chairs. There is not a bad seat in the house. I would definitely recommend.
- Food was mostly fried.
- Would not consider this authentic Japanese.
- Waiters were too busy to pay attention and almost dismissive.
- Service was fast.
I would go here for a catch up and a night of entertainment, but do not expect to be satisfied if only dining.
Yoshi’s is unique in the area, with the jazz club attached, which is great, but the food was just ok, and overpriced for what it was. The ambience is diminished since they remodeled away the sunken seating and the club, while a great venue with quality acts, was freezing.
Great venue for dinner and a show well recommended
The only reason to pay their higher than avg price for average food is to get a reserved seat to the subsequent show of which you have bought tickets for. The service was great. They know why you're there and make sure you get what you need.
The convenience of eating at Yoshi's when attending a show at Yoshi's is great especially with the seat selection, but the food is just average.
Very professional, courteous, and timely service. It’s a beautiful place with great ambiance, good and drinks. The bar area is nice too with a feed of the concert music. The waitstaff let us know when it was time to go into the concert which was great. We had a reserved table in the concert as an added bonus. The concert was the icing on the cake listening to Berkeley High School’s Jazz Ensemble. Thanks Yoshi’s!
Amazing!!! Luv this place!!
Disappointing. Food quality has declined, at least for the evening we attended.
We always have a great time in Yoshi's. They have there stuff together. The restaurant serves fantastic dinners and the entertainment is all ways great.
Salmon carpaccio was ultimate!!! And sushi were simply wowww!!!
Venue is great for music; they need to have a better system for dinner and music combos
I love going for dinner before a concert. The food is excellent, the service is top notch. Its also a super fun vibe. I think one of my favorite parts is that before a show, at least, everyone is dressed up. It feels like a lovely party. Lol
Excellent dinner and venue. 5 stars from me!
And Kenny G concert
We got there 6pm. Even though reservations were at 630, they seated us immediately. The selections were endless, and our food came out tasting superb. Service was out of this world, as we were treated to excellent show seats as well. We'll be back !
Yoshis sushi, wine and sake is excellent. The location is convenient, next to parking and the waterfront. The waitstaff is professional without being too serious.
Staff, service, quality of food were all fantastic. My wife and I drove up from San Jose and needed a quick primer drink, as we arrived in the parking structure of the restaurant 8 minutes before our reservation (that we were stressed about being late for , as anyone who has driven in Bay Area traffic close to 6pm on a Friday can appreciate).
I especially want to thank the staff for helping to arrange such wonderful seats for my wife and I at the Kenny G concert, that followed our dinner. We've already scheduled ourselves for a repeat visit on May 19th, and will do a full on dinner in the hopes the staff can repeat our good seating at the concert venue to follow (5th Dimension). Thanks so much!!
Great food and service. Perfect place to eat before concert at Yoshis. Definitely would recommend for food and locatio .
My Sister and I went to see Kenny G and had dinner beforehand. It was our first time here at Yoshi’s and travelled from Reno. The food was prepared to perfection! I highly recommend the plank salmon and any of the sushi rolls. The service was outstanding! We did the primier seating with meet and greet for Kenny G. They gave us the best seat in the house, front table center stage and such an amazing and unforgettable experience. Thanks for making it special and can’t wait to come back!
Would absolutely recommend jazz concerts but not the restaurant. The prices have gone through the roof, and the food is absolutely not worth it. We would never dine if didn't need better seats for the show. Sad.
Food was very good compared to other Japanese restaurants in east bay. A bit pricey but good sized portions. Service was friendly but on the slow side. I didn’t get my second beer till after finishing the food.
they cannot serve hot food hot; it's always room temperature.
i have been there 4 times in the last 6 months and they just cannot serve hot food.
also, they just raised the food prices too much i.e. chicken was $20 now it's $30.
The food portions were smaller than usual. My fritter was missing scallops. Very disappointed
Very busy Friday night but it was positive energy. Great show afterwards, too.
