With only 30 seats, we aim to bring a personal sake tasting experience to each of our guests. Allow one of our sommeliers to help you select a special sake, served at the ideal temperature, in our house collection of traditional Japanese glassware. Relax in our unique and inviting space, and enjoy the warmth and tradition of Japanese sake and dining.
The food was amazing but the portions were small. It was a great experience.
just like being in Japan...great hidden gem. Food is super delicious and sake choices excellent. you can't have a bad time here....service could not be sweeter!!
This becomes my routine once a month to go to Yoparai to have a meal. The food and service really make me feel comfortable and satisfying. And I recommend the dessert kakikori to everyone. It worth your try.
I’ve had two wonderful meals here! I love the uni dishes.
Food prepared with the highest ingredients in an atmosphere perfect for laid back conversation.
One of the finest japanese restaurants in NY for great sake and awesome izakaya food. Highly recommend
Great service and food
Everything is fabulous except a lady server is not nice.
Wonderful restaurant, perfect service. All the food we ate are delicious. Will eat again soon.
Excellent Izakaya. Impeccable food, fantastic sake
Yopparai is an excellent way to experience an izakaya here in NYC, though admittedly a more expensive one than you'd get in Japan. The quality of the food is fantastic, and the service is stellar. The ebi, chawanmushi, chicken meatball, sashimi, and tuna with radish are all incredible. Sake is pricey but interesting and wide-ranging.
Great food. Terrible service. Only lasting due ti good chefs they have, but i would fire some service staff if the owner wants to take this restaurant to next level.
Amazing service, really delicious food and overall great experience.
Celebrated a few birthdays with delicious tastings and drinks
the dessert selection is limited
The best restaurant in New York City - bar none. Unbelievable food, service and authenticity. So consistent every time I come here. The staff is unbelievable and the Sake list is one of the best in the country. Highly highly recommended!
Nice little authentic space. Great food and great sake list. Great for a nice cosy dinner. Options to sit at the counter and enjoy watching the food prepared or little booths for two.
Place is nice, however food is salty, and after we order more food, after food is here, tell us there is seating limited, and we only have 10 more min. left It will be nice if you can tell me beofre we order more food. Will not go back again
Simply the best. Pricey but worth it! Don't miss out on this gem!!!
The food didn't quite transport me back to Japan, and I don't think it could compete there, but the sake menu is lovingly constructed. Staff are wonderful. I'd probably end up a regular.
Best place 😍
Great waitresses that can offer suggestions pairing sake with the right dish.
Really good dining experience.
Fantastic food, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Some of the best Japanese food I’ve had outside of Japan. Very authentic.
The staff went out of their way to insure that my large party was well taken care of, including pre-ordering the menu and giving superb service. The food is excellent - easily one of the best izakayas in NYC and the sake menu is extensive.
Closest experience you will get to actually being in Tokyo
I love the intimate setting. The have an excellent sake selection available in carafe so you can try different sake with different dishes. Beautiful sashimi and try he duck barbecue!
Very talented and knowledgable staff
My only complaint is that they tend to rush you along too much, the antithesis of what I thought an izakaya was supposed to be.
Def my favorite izakaya in the city. Very good food and place is very clean as well. Also a great place for eel dishes.
A real, genuine Japanese Izakaya! Unlike many others, this one transports you to Osaka when you cross the door! Great food and Sake!
Fantastic food, not inexpensive but well worth it. Good vegetarian options. Great signature cocktail. Quiet room is good for talking.
Fabulous to have a cozy lunch together
Legitimately one of the best places you could choose to dine in NYC. From the moment you step inside, to the moment you leave, you will want for nothing. This is truly a special place!
Best Japanese restaurant in my area.
Food is great! Also they have over 90 different sake ! However It was little bit hot inside.
First time here, great valued food. Izakaya feel and some really authentic Japanese comfort food that is hard to find elsewhere in the city. Everything tasted very good especially the eel sticky rise. Prob the best eel over rice I've ever gotten in New York. Only dish I wouldn't reorder again would be the grilled squid. The waitress did warn me that it would be a bit chewy and it was. Also the old-school shaved ice machine was great to watch. Definitely try to get counter seating.
One of my favorite izakayas in the city. Great food and intimate settings.
Genuine Japanese experience. Fantastic mini teppanyaki and sake.
Went with a friend, his wife, and their two boys (ages 13 and 16). One boy didn't like anything, he's fussy so not entirely unexpected, but everyone else was very happy with every dish, and we are big foodies, traveling regular to Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Spain to dine at the best places we can find. Yopparai is not up to the better izakayas in Japan, but would definitely be middle of the pack and doing that in New York rather than Tokyo is a feat. Will be back.
Please do yourself a favor and order the Blue Fin Tasting. It was all amazing beyond worth the value. The extensive Sake menu has something for even the most unenthusiastic sake goer. The staff was amazing and the ambiance was traditional and 5-Star. Will return for another date night or special occassion.
Perfect food, such a gem. Amazing Japanese food that remind me the experience in Japan!
