Food was disappointing
The tatami Mayte seating area is beautiful. The waitress will come and check on us frequently which seemed good, but then sometimes it felt to frequent. Overall service is good. They should have more options for tea, as currently only green tea as offered.
the portions were ridiculously small. we ordered the highly commented items, and the only dish that was worth its price tag was the pork belly hot pot. nonetheless, sushi was fresh and flavors were there.
Wonderful experience- nice sake list- chirashis were delicious as well as the rolls.
Absolutely fantastic food. Not a single dish that doesn’t impress and service is impeccable
Hands down, excellent. Wagyu tataki miso cod sushi... go and eat
Solid izakaya. Ambiance is perfect for the type of restaurant. Food quality is high, but not extraordinary. I can't say that any one thing in particular was the best I've ever had, but I didn't have any true complaints. Very satisfied and happy with it.
Food is still outstanding. However, service at the new location was subpar.
Menu is too small. Not enough small dishes to include classics as well as seasonal items to meet the standard of a good izakaya. Servers don’t do Japanese style. Nice but not attentive. Not watching for hand signals or even filling glasses and changing small plates. Good was pretty good but more for generic diners who don’t really know Japanese food.
Food are fresh but way overrated and overpriced. Sorry to say so but no remmemdation.
Fantastic food, service and atmosphere. Best restaurant in the city!
We had a great experience starting with the window-seat table, warm and friendly staff, and a solid meal. Great work team Yopparai!
Tiny portion for the price we paid. Uni chirashi and chopped fatty tuna chirashi are not of good quality, fishy and not very fresh. Fudomaki is very cold. Only the chicken meatballs was tasty. The waitress didn’t know the menu very well, couldn’t answer the question.
Food is definitely fresh, but
Our first time at Yopparai. The decor was attractive. The staff was knowledgeable and attentive. We enjoyed the pork belly hot pot, amazing tofu appetizer, fatty blue fin tuna on rice, Wagu beef appetizer and the shrimp tempura hot dog. Each delicious. Portions are small plates so ordering several and sharing was fun. Great sake selections. We look forward to returning again!
Yopparai provides a very nice ambiance with amazing food. Reasonable prices and great customer service. Would go back very soon.
Menu a little slimmer than last visit, pre-covid, but still excellent quality and service!!
serving portion is small but the food is good. recommend for parties no more than 3 people.
Great food, great location and people
Incredible, authentic experience. Would certainly come back again for a special occasion.
Super cool "So Japan" decor, great izakaya food, sake, shochu, whiskey and lovely staff! I'll be back!
Delicious food , super friendly staff and enjoy the private Japanese booths, I really enjoyed the detailed attentiveness of the food & staff
I was embarrassed to take a girl here on a first date. Yopparai is going down in quality and ambiance. There is nothing elegant about the way they are serving cocktails. They should put a bit more effort in this whole thing. Omakase is an experience and they are not doing anything to create a cool ambiance. Their old location was so much better. THis new place felt like a cheap dollar sushi restaurant. Not going back again.
The food was slightly above average; the sashimi was all very good, uni and ikura probably the best thing we had. Otherwise the place was really overpriced for the quality of food. The place is kind of a confused Isakayi/sushi bar/wanna be kaiseki. Most places that combine so many styles of Japanese cuisine fall short in achieving anything noteworthy in any particular style in my experience. Service was really good, the servers were all overattentive, very considerate, cool ambiance as well, but generally not close to being worth it.
This new location is bigger than the previous and the menu has changed a lot too.
Food was incredible, super authentic and the service was top notch. They were so patient with us in explaining every dish and made us laugh with their warm service. Loved everything.
Had the Omakase... absolutely wonderful and kind service
If you loved the old Yopparai, the new one is not for you. There is no ambience. Service is perfunctory and without humor. Dishes are not as good as they were around the corner. Just too damn bad.
Small portions but really fantastic food--fresh and perfectly seasoned. Cocktails were great, chicken meatball a highlight
Awesome food, great atmosphere and service! Would definitely come back again!
Can’t wait to come back. The food and service were absolutely outstanding.
Great food, nice staff, great drinks (though cocktail options are somewhat limited).
Safety protocols were well followed. I reserved 2 seats in the bar, and we were sat apart from other groups. The food was without a doubt amazing! The servers were all very kind and friendly.
Yopparai of old has moved and changed their approach. Before it was more sedate and traditional Japanese Izakaya with emphasis on a wide variety of small dishes. Now it is a bit more youth-oriented with more American clientele. Fewer dishes but the quality is still very high.
I loved the space/atmosphere/food at the previous location. The new location has still fine food, but I felt the service quality gets lower than before.
Authentic Japanese fine Izakaya with attentive service. Individual Tatami seating fun.
Used to be a good place. Not good after covid reopen.
Excellent service- kind staff. Really enjoyed the food and would love to go back to try the sushi Omakase.
