Seafood and ingredients are very fresh. Be sure to look at the daily printed menu. Beautifully presented dishes with great combination of sauces/seasoning to match the seafood that brings out different flavors. Very good with tailoring to personal allergies and preferences. Very good and wide range of sake.
Some of the best chicken teriyaki I've ever had! Absolutely perfectly cooked, all white meat, with no skin. Wish all Japanese restaurants prepared their meats like this place does. My son had salmon teriyaki and it was equally good. Sushi was fantastic, as was the house sake. I was amazed at the quality of the food here. Yes, it's expensive, but for some of the best food you'll ever have, it's well worth it. I'm heading back there as soon as I sell some stock!
We enjoyed our meal at Yojisan. We particularly loved the live Uni. Both rolls we ordered, the yellowtail and scallions and the Leo roll were delicious, though very small rolls. Everything we ate was spot on, except at the end my dining partner asked if they could do something traditionally Japanese which is to simmer the head of the prawn in the miso broth and serve it in the soup, which usually brings about an incredible flavor addition to Miso Shiro. This time, it just tasted like Miso soup with no shrimp flavor, which must be because the head chef was not there to do it correctly. We were also disappointed that there were no other Japanese staff there, from waiter to manager to chefs. But aside from that we enjoyed our meal. The atmosphere is very Drago (makes sense since he is a partner) but not very enjoyable, at least to us. Modern, red and white, all LED white lighting. Kind of ugh. But again, enjoyed the meal anyway.
Great service and food. Loved the Brussels sprout appetizer. They offer a nice veggie miso soup which is a nice twist on the traditional miso. Teriyaki beef entree was excellent as was the sea bass sushi cut roll. Ate there for both lunch and dinner. Never disappointed. We will
Food was incredible but service was terrible. We were stopped mid meal to get up and move because a large party arrived that didn't have a reservation and they wanted the space that me and my friend were sitting in. And then as we ate our plates were taken away the second we finished as if they were running out cutlery and plates. I asked for a hand roll and when I was brought a cut roll the waitress argued with me insisting I ordered a cut roll. I'd order take out from here but I won't come back because of how poor the service was.
Do not waste your money here. This is the equivalent of McDonald's for the sushi world.
Dubious pedigree as a sushi / sashimi restaurant.
Prices are in line with true sushi / sashimi restaurants but the quality of food and taste is severely lacking.
Even the hot tea is a underwhelming, yet costs $2.50 per person.
Surprisingly, Yojisan's menu items in general costs more than Sugarfish!
After a $120 bill for three people, we left still hungry and unsatisfied.
I booked a reservation for two at Yojisan after doing a bit of research, as I live in the South Bay and don't make it to Beverly Hills very often. My friend was in town from London and put a special request in for sushi, and the menu online looked extremely promising. We weren't disappointed!
We both loved the lychee martinis, and shared the crispy risotto (spicy tuna on crispy rice cakes, a very 'LA' appetizer that I will order pretty much anywhere it's served) and the blue crab and avocado salad. Both were tasty, though the crab salad could've used a bit more dressing (the crab was lovely and very fresh, but the dish was a bit dry.) We followed with a few rounds of nigiri (sushi) and the grilled seabass cut roll - and of course, another round of lychee martinis.
My friend was impressed by the ambience and the service was beyond excellent. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area, and I would gladly go back the next time I'm in Beverly Hills.
We've always considered Asanebo to represent a gold-standard for LA area sushi and Japanese cuisine. They may have a legitimate challenger now in Yojisan. The fish is outstanding and Yoji's creations are amazing. Combined with top notch service and the entire experience rates a (rare) 5 stars for us. Yojisan has always been very good but they've seemed to have achieved another level over the past few months. At the very least, they are a standout for us.
I have gone here the past 2-3 years when I visit L.A. and the food is always good. This year the quality went down.The fried tofu was cold and tasteless in a bowl of soy sauce, rather than in a created sauce. The salmon tartar on fried rice had no flavor. The shrimp clearly was frozen and had no taste. The sushi and sashimi was fine, but not the best quality. Very disappointing. The place is pretty and the service is good, but its the food that counts.
Real disappointment. But difficult to find good sushi restaurants of any value in Beverly Hills.
Food was sub-par in preparation, presentation and any tastefulness. 'Spicy' tuna was certainly not spicy and if a sushi restaurant cannot accomplish that, then it's worth nothing.
Would not go back or recommend.
So, this was my second visit. I was there the day before for the first time with a date. Assuming that the second time would be the same great experience or better, it turns out to be a little bit of disappointment. Service was not at the greatest level. I had to repeat myself several times to get what I needed, food came out too salty and I didn't finish my order and did not want to take the left overs. I even mentioned to the hostess that it was my second visit back to back, she didn't even welcome me back with a warm smile. She just asked, "did you come during the rush hour time?" and I answered, "yes, I think so. I was here at around 1pm." She replies, "yeah, I wouldn't have recognized or remembered you." Is that acceptable for a hostess to say to their guest? She was very rude. Her dress was not appropriate as well. Her black dress she wore this day was a bit too short and did not meet the luxury high end restaurant dress code. She may have to be trained again. Correct her verbiage please.
We are acute sushi-snobs. We admit it and there is little chance of a cure. Fortunately, there are places like Yojisan who are consistently great and never disappoint. Along with Asanebo in Studio City and a few others, this is one of our all-time favorites. The quality of the fish, the variety and the preparation are top notch. The needle fish, kinmedai, kurodai, and uni are about the best anywhere. Sit at the sushi bar and interact with Yoji. He's very cool and will guide you through his best offerings.
