About Yiannis Taverna
Yiannis Taverna offers the exciting flavours of Greece to diners in a progressively designed and comfortable space.
Yiannis represents a marriage between traditional foods of the Mediterranean and local ingredients.
Using time-honoured, classic cooking techniques accented with more modern methods, the menu is a true cultural mosaic served traditionally in a social environment.
Nestled in Old Stratchona’s heritage district in the Baalim block, Yiannis consists of the main floor restaurant and a downstairs lounge and, with 220 seats, provides diners with the vibrant and exciting flavours of the Mediterranean.
Bright and colourful artwork stands out among the brick and stonework, lending an eclectic and inviting feel that allows guests to feel comfortable enough for a long stay; starting with a chat over drinks, followed by dinner, and perhaps continued over post-dinner libations.

Yiannis Taverna Ratings and Reviews
Having confirmed reservations at this restaurant apparently means nothing. At least that’s the impression we were left with.
We had reservations for two and when we showed up for our seating we were told to go to their basement restaurant to see if they have seating for us because they were completely full. The hostess did not walk us to the basement restaurant to ensure they had a spot for us, ensure we knew where we were going or had advised the servers that she was going to send us there. Luckily, they had one table for two left in their space.
The only highlight to this experience was that we got to experience their space downstairs which was very unique by design and servers were good.
Edmonton has so many great restaurants where we know we would be appreciated and our reservations honored regardless if we are a party of 2 or 12. We will not be back.
We decided to book our five year anniversary at Yianni's as it is where we had our first date. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed by the service. When we arrived, we waited for a while before anyone acknowledged us. When we were finally sat, the hostess just put the menus on the table and walked away without a literal word. Didn't mention any specials or even remotely spoke to us. It was really odd and we were confused. Anyhow, when our server arrived, he was really abrupt and again, barely spoke to us. Our appetizer came out really fast, but we had barely made a dent in it when our entrees arrived. We really wanted to take our time and enjoy a date but felt very rushed. The server just moved our appetizer plates around and stuck the entree platter in the middle. We were still eating our appetizer so our entree platter ended up sitting for a good 15-20 minutes and was cold once we got to it. The most annoying thing however was that we got sat next to a group of extremely loud and irritating girls that were just flirting the entire time (loudly) with our server. They were so loud we couldn't even hear each other talk. It was really obnoxious. We would have asked to move (as most of the restaurant was empty) but the server didn't come around again to our table until our entree platter was pretty much done. Overall, we wanted a really nice night to remember for our anniversary and we were really disappointed. We probably wouldn't be back. Food was okay. Not worth the price of the evening.
We have been going here for years .. only once or twice a year but for almost 20 yrs this a few years back it
Seemed to have lost momentum
but this time great service great food super fun
The portions seemed to have shrunken over the years but all the food was excellent if you have not tried Greek before order one of the platters so you can try everything
I Loved it! Staying at the Hotel next door and just needed to sit. Lots of people on the sidewalk and I wanted time to myself with a glass of wine and the staff were so welcoming. We did go back for supper and the food was very good and the Belly Dancer was fun and not intrusive.
I've dined here before so i know it's great, but this experience was not the best. The server didn't seem like he wanted to be there and wasn't that attentive. However, it could have been a bad day. The food wasn't spectacular but good for sharing.
There was a private event in the restaurant beside so lots of banging and noise coming from there
Food and service at Yiannis is always consistently great!! We ordered the Athena Platter for the first time, which provided a great smattering of appetizers and entrees. All of the protein was delicious, which included lamb chops, chicken skewers and salmon. All of it was tender, juicy and well seasoned. The platter is also a good value at $75 for two people. The other couple with us ordered off of the menu, and everything was perfectly timed. Service was fabulous, particularly when the owner Tammy found out I was celebrating my birthday. Thanks Tammy!!
