YEW seafood + bar - Four Seasons Hotel - Vancouver Ratings and Reviews
the ambiance is great, really loved the whole atmosphere. the food was delicious BUT the portions are SMALL!!! my son ordered the lamb rack, and literally got 2 chops on his plate. i ordered the lobster and it was delicious too...but you get 2 pieces (not tails, but pieces). My other son ordered the salmon and it was a decent size. If you are not overly hungry and want a meal in a fun environment...this is not a bad place to check out.
Worst brunch experience ever! The staff was not attendant and my meal was mediocre. I ordered the lobster benny and it was barely lukewarm. I brought this to the attention of our server and my meal was replaced. You'd think they'd get it right the 2nd time around, right? Well.. no....hmmm... it wasn't much better but I unfortunately didn't bother to let them know. I just wanted to enjoy my company and forget about the food. 2 strikes and you're out!
A little disappointed with:
- Food was average in terms of quality and quantity given the price point
- service was slow when taking orders, clearing table, wanting additional items from the menu, providing credit card machine to pay
- was not given the little donuts prior to our meal
This was mitigated by:
- very warm and friendly server
Taste of food could be better. Appetizer scallops slightly burnt, crab cakes too dry.The Main, Lingcod could be better, the 1/2 lobster enhancement was a total disappointment. The chicken breast was tender enough but plating could have been better, it was just 2 small pieces of chicken if without add-on, nothing else. Dessert was just mediocre. Service however was good, server was alert without being overly intrusive.
A group of friends meet here for lunch every quarter. It is convenient. This was my 5th visit. The restaurant is in the Four Seasons hotel and is a large trendy affair. The prices match: $25.00 for a burger, $40.00 for a lunch entrée. As you would expect the service and ambiance are fine. What is not fine is the food. My burger was dry and tasteless. Not even as good as a burger at McDonalds. The food was presented with flair and plated with style. If only they could do something about the flavor. Of the five meals I have had there the fare has never risen above the mediocre. In a city with great restaurants this one misses the mark.
We made a reservation at Yew for my husband's birthday. We chose it specifically because we are seafood lovers and it was rated as one of the top 10 seafood restaurants in Vancouver. However, we did not find the food comparable to any of the other restaurants on that list. Our tuna tartare was oversalted. The sablefish was unseasoned. In the mixed seafood dish the salmon was overdone as were the prawns. Even my husband's dark and stormy was not done to his satisfaction. We were sorely disappointed and not expecting this level of food at all. We will not be visiting or reccomending Yew again.
Had a great night with our very attentive server "Joel'. He made the night with his happy profession service. The food and drinks were excellent. There was one thing that we were not happy with was when I called and asked if they served whole lobster the said yes but when we got the lobster it was not a whole lobster. The lobster was already de-shelled and placed on the plate with only the head and chunks of the lobster. My wife likes to see the whole lobster so this was a disappointment for her as it was her birthday and this was the reason we picked this restaurant.
Burrara cheese salad did not have well distinguished flavours between the pear, walnut, broccoli and cheese. Signature sable fish dish was okay but not outstanding - ravioli was nice but sauce was overwhelming. Over attentive busboy was distracting. Ambience was otherwise good and staff offered to relocate us if adjacent party became too noisy. For the price the food could be better.
We dined at YEW for a special event, and really enjoyed the seafood, the wine, the friendly and speedy services. The sablefish is absolutely excellent, and so is the ling-cod, as well as the seafood combination. We will definitely go back to YEW in the near future, and also recommend our friends and relatives to dine there. No excuses.
Yew never fails to impress. As always, the staff & service is exceptional, as is the food - locally sourced & sustainable when possible, a great variety, and nice choices. Super attentive service, a great sommelier, beautiful ambience - we love the Four Seasons and Yew!
YEW is our favourite restaurant in vancouver. We can always count on a delicious, creative and well presented meal. The service is always great. Andrew is our favourite waiter!! The restaurant ambience is lively and fun, catering to groups, couples and families. You can’t go wrong at the Yew.
Have lunch / drinks meetings 4/5 times a month at YEW. Was highly disappointed by the Mackerel. Not only was it burnt, it tasted like it was seared in burnt oil. Did not make a fuss about it because I did not want to interrupt my guests lunch, but would never recommend that dish to anyone.
The ambience of the restaurant is fantastic. The restaurant is nestled inside the Four Seasons hotel downtown.
Our server (I forget his name) was enthusiastic and incredibly helpful with the selections (food and wine). The only hiccup was the risotto. I ordered the Mixed Seafood Risotto and it was quite underdone. The rice was crunchy. When it was sent back, it was returned slighly better cooked but still under.
Aside from that, everything else was satisfactory.
The service on this particular visit was surprisingly inattentive, given Yew's usually high standards.
We started out with a round of oysters, but the appetizers arrived shortly thereafter, with the table still crowded with the oyster platter and condiments, so we had to send them away.
We ordered cocktails and were given a wine list, but nobody came back to refresh our drinks or ask whether we had decided on a wine (or for that matter pick up the wine list, which stayed with us through dinner). We had to flag a server to place our order for another round halfway through our meal.
We were not asked whether anybody at the table had allergies before placing our order, which has become common place in most fine restaurants, and no explanation of our dishes were given when they were delivered.
The lackluser service lasted till dessert, when all but one arrived at once, and being polite, we had to wait several minutes with our ice cream and sorbets melting, untl the last one was delivered.
The food was excellent as always, and we assume the poor service was indicative of the room being unexpectdely short-staffed, rather than a decrease in standards.
Disappointing, but we will be back and hope for a better experience next time.
Seems like the restaurant offered Travelzoo vouchers as they are not doing well right now. It wasn’t too busy at all during peak Sunday brunch time. Also, service was lousy for such high end restaurant in then Four Seasons hotel, as many workers seemed like young, foreign students who were either training working part time and/or unmotivated. Food was terrible, they even messed up description on menu for Lobster Benny and waitress agreed that this is terrible since item comes with ham on it even though no mention of that on menu. Waitress made few other mistakes with taking our orders during meal plus they don’t bring out any sauces with meals such as tartar sauce with fish and chips, or ketchup with fries unless you ask for it, which is ridiculous. Nothing offered for inconvenience even though we had two young children with us, just remade meals. All signs of poor management as things aren’t getting corrected so not motivated to improve just stay status quo and serve their usual clientele in hotel who have no other choice for food inside hotel.
Overall very good, but we are not used to the minor change to the menu for ordering side food to the main course. Every side item is ordered separately, we pick mushrooms, the portion of this item is at least twice the amount of what other restaurant would normally offer! A small pan full of mushrooms! For us, we much prefer a higher price, we could select 2 to 3 items with regular portions from the group.
We are happier with the previous set up!
Yew is one of our favourite restaurants, visiting at least 4 times yearly! Highly Recommended!
