YEW seafood + bar - Four Seasons Hotel - Vancouver Ratings and Reviews
As a longtime Vancouverite I didn’t think that there was a modern dining experience available at the Four Seasons. I was pleasantly surprised! It’s so convenient to get to, being on Granville / City Centre and there’s also underground parking (you get to stay dry!). We loved the friendly service (sometimes they get a little huffy that you’re there for Dine Out), amazing seafood and presentation, and little touches like bread with seafood mousse before the meal and madeleines with dark chocolate and freeze dried strawberry bark (complimentary with the meal). We honestly can’t wait for the next lunch or brunch or whatever excuse we have to treat ourselves to this place again!
DineOut Vancouver - starter scallops minestrone is delicious, then downward from there. Ling cod was like fish and chips. Mine was too rare so manager sent it back to kitchen and they made me another order which was cooked well. However by then the other 2 people finished their entrees and waiting for the redo, I was full so packed my fish home. Desserts are not their forte - cherry tart was cold and hard. Chocolate cookie and cream not inspired like Oreo standing on a plate
I enjoyed the complementary bread + spread as well as the dessert at the end. All the servers were kind and attended to my needs quickly. I've only been to YEW for Dineout, so I wouldn't be able to comment on their regular menu. However, upon browsing their brunch menu, I would try it out.
My husband and I went for dine out menu set. Food was very nice, I love the scallops so much but there was a “surprise” to us. my husband bit a small stone when he ate the beans in the bottom of the plate. That was terrible if I bit it, I don’t have strong teeth as my husband, never thought it would happen. Our waiter gave us another new dish of scallop as compensation, we are ok with that, the new one was perfect.
I have been for business lunches many times and enjoyed it. This time we sat in the lounge and the service was mediocre to poor. Our server seemed distracted and so busy he didn't want to wait a moment when we were deciding. One of my guests asked if they had decaf coffee, he said yes and then served her out of the same pot as everyone else and when she asked if it was decaf, he was walking away so fast he didn't seem to hear her. Small things but I found myself apologising to my clients for the poor service in the restaurant I had chosen. My other lunches have been excellent with great servers in the main dining area.
This review is solely based on the Dine Out menu which we just tried the other night. Many others have raved about the food here and therefore our expectations were pretty high that the quality and presentation of the food would be of the highest calibre. Aside from a very lacklustre ling cod dish that appeared to be nothing more than a two bite morsel of fish rushed
together haphazardly with 8-10 pea sized cubes of root veggies, the quality and presentation of the food did not disappoint. Overall, I would say the Dine Out dinner menu should be more accurately described as a three course "tasting" menu at best as the portions were WAY too tiny to pass off as full appetizers let alone lunch or dinner sized entrees (which we were certainly not expecting given the set price). In my opinion, this establishment should probably rethink their participation in this event as too many variables (incl quality) needed to be compromised to fit within the limitations of the $40 set menu price. Perhaps something along the lines of a proper prix-fixe menu at $60 or $75pp would make more sense? On a couple of other notes, this restaurant had strange acoustics making it almost impossible to hear someone sitting 2 feet away yet it was nowhere near full to capacity and lastly, the service was second to none, which was definitely a pleasant surprise.
An evening out with friends and we all enjoyed the atmosphere, superb service and flavourable seafood. The wine list was filled with old world favourites with a wide price band. Yew feels special and we were treated as such. It was a relaxing evening. Thank you.
Food and service are always not bad, although the waiter didn't come back and check us out for a long time sometimes, so we had to wait. The desserts were a bit out of our expectation. I regretted not just having sorbet. Overall, it's a good choice of restaurant.
The food is good but the environment is poor. We were seated in a booth with insufficient lighting to read the menu...small print and ink colour not comparable with lighting. Also a large down draft of cold air conditioned air chilled us to the bone and cooled our food very quickly and it was cold less than halfway through. The open kitchen causes the cold air downdraft. Poor design or poor understanding of how the air system should work. Perhaps an unintended consequence of needless energy conservation.
I expect more from 4-Seasons and while the food was good I would not go back as the restaurant is uncomfortable.
