Delicious small plates and sushi rolls. Great sake selection.
Great sushi. Good prices. Friendly staff. Easy to get to by public transportation.
First time dining here. The food was just ok, nothing special at all. The service was terrible and it took almost 2 hours to get in and out because of the slow service. Cleanliness of the restaurant was also not that great. Had to ask for a new menu because I got a pile of greasy rice in my lap when I opened mine 😟
Perfectly acceptable meal. No complaints! ...which is great for a sushi place
The service was pretty terrible and the restaurant was almost empty. It seemed as though our party of three had multiple servers. We would ask for water from one, get checked on 10 minutes later by another server, still wondering where the water is-- this happened in several forms throughout our dinning experience. We did not receive the type of sushi we ordered but they brought something, so we decided just to eat it. Half of the sashimi seemed like it was thawing out from a frozen state. I would recommend that even if you are in the mood for sushi and this place is close to change what you are in the mood for or go somewhere else.
YamaSho is a Japanese Karaoke hot spot. We go there mainly for the good Japanese food, but the Karaoke clientele is charming and entertaining, and always friendly. Service is great,
and it is on our hot list of great places to eat when we visit SF.
Love this place. Great sushi.
I held my birthday dinner here. We were looking to sake bomb and enjoy some sushi. The place was a little empty so that was a problem since we got a little loud. It was still pretty early and no one was really karaoke-ing yet, which was a bummer. Good food, fairly priced, close to other bars.. I enjoyed the experience.
Great sushi for a good price! Large selection and good quality fish. Inside is nice and there is karaoke downstairs if you are into that! haha!
Went for sushi and karaoke, always a good time! Very accommodating staff for our changing party size.
We came here for dinner before a movie Saturday night. When we sat down there were only a couple tables full. It was busy by the time we left. The service was horrible. We were constantly having different servers come to the table and the food took forever.
Though we were stuck and couldn't get to a preferred restaurant, Foreign Cinema, we met family here and had a decent time. The service was OK and the food, passable though not great.
The restaurant came recommended by a man who lives in SF. The food was great, but the service was a little slow. Fortunately we had planned enough time that the service issue was not a problem.
Service was atrocious - had to wait a very long time for a sushi order.
If you are looking for great food and excellent ambiance, this is a fun place.
This place is not good for big groups. The food orders took forever. We ordered food that they brought at least 40 min after we ordered it. It took tooo long and they messed up the orders. I also had a karaeoke reservation that had to be changed because the restaurant took too long! We were a big group, like 12, but not that size as for them to completely confuse everything on our orders! The food is mediocre, edamaes are served cold and the ambiance is not even good.
Nice Japanese menu with a decent sake selection. Appeared to have a Korean flare to the dishes. Great service. This is a place to karaoke!
We needed a good sushi place near the Great American Music Hall and this fit the bill. The food was very good and atmosphere was nice and quiet; we were there on the early side so probably gets louder as the karaoke upstairs gets going.
Friendly staff, good food.
Can't make reservations for karaoke with opentable. You must call in.
Great uni!
When visiting Tokyo I experienced private Karaoke rooms. I decided this was a must for a girl’s night out when visiting friends in San Francisco. I was pleased to find one just a short walk from BART. We were welcomed into a lovely Japanese restaurant (looked great for a date night!) and escorted to a private karaoke room under the restaurant. The on-call service for food and drinks was a treat. We enjoyed being silly and singing on a level only friends can appreciate. The service was wonderful and we will definitely be back!
We came for the KARAOKE. We had two little girls with us who can't sing karaoke at the typical late night lounges, so the private rooms are the only reason we went to this venue. the sushi was bland, mediocre and high priced, we will never return. he larger room "osaka" was $27 because we went for the half price karaoke rooms between 5-7 on Sunday. i would not pay the full price $54.
. Service was well-timed and friendly
We went as a party of 6 people for karaoke. We made reservations ahead of time and everything was ready by the time we arrived. The food is great...amazing for karaoke food standards. They have an iPad for song selection. The rooms were clean. The sound-proofing could use some work, but it's pretty standard for karaoke here. Worth the extra cost compared with other karaoke joints in San Francisco.
Being able to enjoy a delicious Japanese meal and sing karaoke with friends is the best way to experience karaoke. The food here is very good.
The fish were fresh (apparently from Japan), delicious and beautifully presented. The staff were very friendly and mindful. The ambiance was also nice; the decor was great. Definitely great for date night or small group of friends. Next time I go will definitely sit by the bar so I can learn about things from the sushi chefs. Highly recommend!
Came here with a group of about 10 coworkers. Had a reservation on OpenTable but apparently because I was not able to pick up their phone call a few hours earlier, they assumed I was not coming and did not have a table ready. So we had to wait for them to get a table for 10 together upon arrival.
After ordering, it took a good 50 minutes for all food to arrive. That is one thing, BUT there was a 30 minute difference from the time that the first person's food arrived until the last dish. Most restaurants will attempt to prepare dishes for the entire table before bringing everyone's food. There was zero attempt to do that in this situation. That created a very awkward situation where literally 8 of the 10 people had finished the food before the last person's food came. Finally, everyone but one person's dish arrived and that person ate alone while everyone else waited (we had to rush because we had another appointment after). They showed no concern even when we asked about the remaining dishes.
Really really poor experience here.
The food was not good. We will not return. We will recommend against visiting
I live next door from the restaurant. Food and service were always good, but the sushi chef is very slow. Last time we had to wait for about 40 mins to get a simple roll. They need to do something about this
Go, it was a surprise to find such a nice spot in this area of town. Loved it.
YamaSho is definitely the best place to karaoke in San Francisco, but they are also an excellent place to eat some delicious Japanese food! Their menu is comprehensive and includes many options that help making ordering for groups easier (sushi packages, pitchers of beer, etc.). Note that making and OpenTable reservation for YamaSho is strictly for their dining area, so if you wanna karaoke you should call in to reserve a room (rooms go fast!). The service at YamaSho is excellent and I always feel completely taken care of from before I arrive until I leave.
These days it's hard to find a really good Japanese restaurant. YamaSho is okay for the food, but the service and ambience is lacking. You have to constantly track down a wait staff to make inquiries. Food isn't always served timely such as appetizers served first with time to enjoy them and then your main entree. They tended to be served on top of each other. The look of the restaurant is okay with the wood walls and benches, but it feels like a barn with wood tables placed in the middle of it.
I made a reservation through Open Table for a group of friends for dinner to celebrate a birthday. The food was delicious and came out in a timely manner. (It's one of the few places I've found takoyaki - let alone good takoyaki.) We let slip that it was our friend's birthday. Around dessert time, one of the employees came out with a slice of cake and a candle. After my group sang happy birthday, the employee said that she would now sing for my friend. We were all completely blown away! Her voice was beyond amazing! So, great food at a decent price not to mention the option to get a karaoke room and fantastic service. I'd definitely recommend.
Great location. Parking very very close. Greta food fair price. Highly recommended.
I went with a large party for a friend's birthday and we were seated in the upstairs dining room. The food was great but the service was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!
It took us 1 hour to get our drinks (we had to approach multiple servers and even go down to the kitchen to ask them to AT LEAST give us water because we were parched) and 2 hours to start getting our appetizers and then our food. It was absolutely ridiculous. I have never had this terrible service in my life.
I would never, ever, EVER go here again.
The combo of being seated promptly, good sushi, delicious drinks and awesome service made this a great night for our group of 7.
Wonderful, kind & spirited host. They gave excellent service and I would recommend to all my friends and family. The hostess sang me happy birthday and I loved it she almost made me cry because it was the best happy birthday I'd ever heard.
Our reservation was for 5:30 on Saturday night. We arrived a few minutes early and were seated promptly by the hostess. Our waitress came to take our drink order within 2 minutes of us sitting down. As the restaurant began to fill up, we were worried that service would start lacking, but we never felt unattended. The service was great, the food was great, and we had a great time. We would definitely go back again.
YamaSho is a gem. On its premises is a stand-alone restaurant and Karaoke rooms. The cuisine is exquisite -- creative, well prepared, and utterly delicious. The service and serving staff are among the best in San Francisco: friendly and courteous, knowledgeable about the dishes, and clearly there to be of help. The drink menu includes an overflowing, inexpensive wooden container of one of two kinds of saki not to be missed. Our recommendations include: for appetizers, the black cod, grilled squid, and takosu (octopus); for small plate dishes, the grilled mackerel; and the sushi is extraordinarily fresh and well-prepared. But our favorite dish is a shiso "cracker" that is to die for.
I went with a group of 19, and we were able to get the upstairs private room, typically used for karaoke, although we were only dining. It was great to have our own space, food was good, although service was a little slow and everybody's food came out at different times so that we weren't really eating together. They did apologize for the slow service as they were really busy that night, which we appreciated. Good sushi rolls, great variety of items on the menu, and lots of choices of sake! Overall, a really good experience, and was exactly the type of spot we were looking to celebrate the occasion.
