I said to the restaurant that the dinner is for a happy belatde birthday of my girlfriend, and so the staff served a cake for us at the end of the dinner. Great Thanks!!
Beautiful grounds and view. The sampler platter was greasy, wish it had something grilled vs all fried, sea bass delicious, the mussels were dry with a thick curry sauce which was not as luscious as a broth. The mussels got cold & congealed in that thick Coconut sauce would have preferred a lemongrass broth to keep them moist & warm. Sashimi tako was very good as was the Sashimi Hamachi w/ truffle. The Lychee martinis were very tasty but we had to have the second round remade since they were too sweet. The ambiance can’t be beat but I think some of the food needs improvement. And I never understand when food comes out before drinks if drinks are ordered first.
When our waitress found out we were not going to get the 249.00 dish, her demeanor changed. We weren't given napkins and questions were met with a cold and off putting energy. Overall great venue, great view, unfortunately that night the service was not up to par
While you can't deny the ambiance and views that Yamashiro has to offer, our night was inexplicably ruined by our very rude and curt server. I don't think I have issues with servers in general, and having friends who work in this industry, I am empathetic when nights are busy. Unfortunately, this night was not very busy at all, and my girlfriend, whose Valentine's day we were celebrating and who is also Vegan, wanted to start with the sample platter as it had both vegan and non-vegan options. When it came out, we saw the spring vegetarian rolls were missing and wanted to ask our server if it was missing. We waited around 10 minutes before our server came back who finally told us that they were out - this seems like something you could'e mentioned beforehand and we would've ordered something that would allow her diet. Also, we had to ask other servers to get our server because she would take 10-15 minutes to come back to our table and not refill our water at all. Honestly, I don't mind if you're busy, but there was only 3 other tables around us with people. I really didn't feel welcome. In the end, when I went to pay the bill, the server brought my card back saying it was declined. I've had this happen with my card before and asked her to manually enter it, but she didn't take my check and instead went off for another 5-10 minutes before coming back, going back to manually enter my card (shocker it worked!), and coming back. I really want to give this place another chance as the hosts, the valet, and the general food and ambiance were mildly great, but I don't think I've ever felt uncomfortable from a server until this experience.
Our waitress Stephanie provided us with excellent service. The sushi boat was exquisite as well as the ambience. We were seated in the garden area as requested. The staff greeted us immediately and seated us upon arrival. My girlfriend and I couldn't have been happier with the overall experience, except we will be skipping the cocktails next time as they contained too much alcohol.
Amazing!! Great food and great views overlooking the city!
yummy food with the Impeccable service，Elegant environment for people dating or anniversary.
We arrived two hours early for our 9:30 reservation. The Host was MOST gracious in setting us up in the bar, offering first drink gratis, since it was a birthday celebration.
The female bartender was fabulous, with a perfect amount of attention and friendliness, while leaving us to enjoy each other and the surrounding authentic decor.
At our own pace, we finally decided to move on to dinner, at the sushi bar, and were delighted with everything offered by Sushi Chef Extraordinaire' "Kenny." He also kept a perfect demeanor of friendliness and professionalism, while letting us be, as well.
Then, the staff gathered to sing a very soft low-volume "Happy Birthday" to my Sweetheart, who had announced "no birthday songs" at our arrival.
So, our evening was PERFECT ... and Yamashiro has won our hearts! Thank you!
We weren’t happy with the quality of the food the California Tempura Roll taste like nasty old cooking oil seems the oil they used to cook it very OLD. They probably keep on repeating using the oil every day and same thing with the Calamari. The steak taste very plain and the Asian ribs smelled like very sour we didn’t even eat it. I lost my appetite just smelling it. Not worth it for paying too much for it. I hope we get refunded for being un satisfied customer plus this is our first time there we should at least enjoy our meal.
Yamashiro is always a favorite of ours to celebrate special occasions. The view is simply amazing and the food consistently good. What really makes it for us too is the service. The servers are friendly, knowledgeable, and really create a fun, upbeat atmosphere!
Katya was amazing, food was great. Worth what we paid for. Bar id's generous. Sliders are delicious. Will definitely come back for the boat.
Everything was delicious! I recommend the spicy tuna roll and the black cod.
Great view, amazing service, good food
Great environment and service, but the food was not what it is made up to be. I give the food 6/10
I am so happy that this historic Resturant was not torn down and replaced with something else. The view was phenomenal & the service was exceptional.
We have gone to Yamashiros for several of our wedding anniversaries. They always give us a table with a great view and recognize our special event. In addition to the great good and service these small touches keep us coming back
Average food quality. You go there for the LA night scene so don't expect quality food. Ordered sashimi but we have to specially request for ginger. (hmm??)
Ordered a dessert with ginger ice-cream but we were only served with a vanilla ice-cream instead. The waitress did not even inform us that they ran out of ginger ice-cream (???). Only when we made additional queries and then she revealed the vanilla ice-cream. Well, we felt kind of being 'cheated' in a high end restaurant.. Very disappointed instead.. This should be my first and my last visit.
Great place to take your date on a fancy adventure !
Terrible Terrible Terrible that's all I have to say about Yamashiro. Went for Valentine's day and had the worst possible night, food portions extremely small off the set menu, was rushed the whole time in and out of the restaurant in less than 40 minutes and had to wait an hour and a half for valet to bring the car out only decent part was our waiter, everyone else just rude valet even gave attitude when I asked what's taking so long to bring my car out and told me to walk to it if I really wanted to get it
From parking entrance to restaurant took about 20 mins. The menu itself was not that great but the price was rediciously high. 120 per person. I know it was Valentine day ,but that price was nonsense. It is symbolic place in LA but I think I would never visit again. one time is far beyond enough.
I've dined here for Valentine's Day before, but this year it was terrible. For $125 set price, you would expect some kind of steak choice, but nothing. I had a carrot based appetizer, salad, a few shrimps, an ahi tuna entree, and a red velvet dessert. That is not a value of $125. Previous years were better, and included a delicious and valued steak choice. Somebody in management made a terrible decision this time. And waiting at the valet was an unclassy experience, hearing everyone from customers to actual staff cursing aloud about the slow situation. Highly vulgar environment full of anxiety. Some cars took 2 hours to come back to their owners. Yes, 2 hours. And mine was dreadfully close to that. What happened, Yamashiro? You're better than this. Still, the in-house staff is friendly and efficient, no complaints there. Clearly, they have all the right people working inside, but all the wrong brains making decisions above.
Waited hour and half for valet to bring my car. I don’t believe in leaving reviews like I’m some critique, but this genuinely sucked. My girlfriend missed work the next day because we left so late.
I won’t leave a yelp review to tarnish your business, but Jesus Christ this sucked. Figure that stuff out, don’t make a logistical nightmare just for revenue. Short term decisions have ruined any future opportunity for me and many others.
Don’t go there for valentines!!!!!! The portion sizes are ridiculously small, preset menu, overpriced, and food was horrible. The service was bad. We waited forever for our food and car. They were severely understaffed, both in the restaurant and the valet. Plus, no one mentioned to us about the preset $125 per person menu before we actually got there.... and we left hungry!
We went for the special Valentine's Day dinner. Had a great time, because we love each other and aren't snobs, but like, you should know -- for $125/person pre-fix, the sushi was supermarket-grade and the service was frankly embarrassing. We ordered a bottle of a unfiltered, nigori sake, they brought us a different bottle of a different kind of sake, and when we asked about it, they said they were out of the one we'd ordered, then brought us a new bottle of a different type of nigori -- when the bill came they charged us for the bottle we didn't order, which was more expensive than the bottle we did order. It was just very slapdash and unprofessional for a $350 dollar dinner. The food was crap and we both felt sick afterwards. Would not recommend.
Food is great for Asian food lovers, miss the old oyster shooters etc. this is a japanese place not french. The service was great. Only bad thing was the Valet, horrible waited 2 hours, got my valet fee back but not worth it. Next time I either park myself or not go at all. The restaurant managers helped to get my car and that was the only reason I got it.
It was absolutely terrific!! Jordan was kind to us all night and brought us some amazing Valentine’s Day dishes.
Nobody from Open Table to the lady at Yamashiro that called to get my cc info explained how it was a valentine menu that you could not divert from. My date and I hated everything offered that night. I came for the tempura and babyback ribs, not this boozgy small plates at $125 a person. Waiter told me it was several other tables going thru the same thing. Now we are stuck and not happy. My night sucked!!! Bring the old Yamashiro back!!!!
Food was ok. Overpriced. Probably will not come back.
this place was like super sick. went for a v day date. homeboy got it.
