Excellent food selection and service. Fantastic view of the Hollywood sign downtown LA sky scraper Griffith observatory and the restaurant is a peaceful lovely place😊
The inner Garden area was such a unique and beautiful place for a relaxing enjoyable meal. Really good food!
This place is great. Location location location. Amazing views great food and friendly staff.
The restaurant is beautiful and fancy itself. It looked amazing in the night because you are able to see the view that’s surrounded within. The servers were really friendly and attentive. Like every 15 minutes they asked if we were okay or need anything else. The food was amazingly delicious 😋. It was really enjoyable & I would definitely recommend it to my friends.
The food was outstanding - very delicious and creative options on the menu. We highly recommend the Waghu steak that you can cook yourself at the table. It makes for a fun experience. The orange creme brule is also fanatic. We sat at a table along the edge of the center garden and enjoyed the jumping koi and Japanese music.
The restrooms are downstairs (a full flight of stairs), just FYI, so be safe on the way down.
The staff was phenomenal. Very attentive, eager to suggest items, and friendly. There's always someone coming by to help with drink refills or table clearing.
The views are breathtaking, too - Hollywood sign, Griffith Observatory, downtown LA, and the valley. The gardens are landscaped nicely up the hill, and if you want a casual lounge area, the Pagoda Bar is an outdoor gem.
We are likely going to have our wedding reception at the location (our primary reason for visiting this time, in addition to trying it out for dinner). So definitely keep them in mind for events as I'm sure any small or large group would absolutely love it.
Attending and warm service. Ingredients are very fresh and of high quality. Taste is 8/10. On the other hand, menu selection is quite limited, and the table is a bit small.
Located in the hills above the Chinese Theatre and Hollywood Boulevard is the best Japanese restaurant in Los Angeles. Yamashiro. The best views of downtown L.A. and Century City, a beautiful bar, and dining next to a Japanese garden and coy ponds. Everything from shushi and shashmi to steaks and seafood, elite is all drlicious. This is not just a meal, it is an experience. Enjoy!
Such an amazing and secluded restaurant with incredible food and service atop Hollywood Hills and overlooking glistening City lights. Very romantic, but also excellent for any sort of special occasion dining. A must for anyone wanting a unique and unforgettable experience in Hollywood.
Our meal was incredible . We cooked the Wagyu Beef on the hot lava stone... amazing! Kiki our waitress was fabulous and even sang Happy Birthday!!! So much fun and memorable. I will definitely go again!! Thank you Yamashiro!!
Black cod was very good, as was the salmon appetizer. The ribs were just okay, the coconut/basil shrimp was dry, and the banana spring roll dessert was bland. Service was very good.
Great place for date night. Tends to be in the noisy side when the place gets full. Great view of the city while dining. Food was excelent and service was right on. Would dine here again.
All was good, except the noise created by a large group of asian customers.
Such an amazing historic location. I have been 6 times in the past year showing off to business visitors the view, unfortunately I am always apologizing for the lousy service. And every time the servers are different, but they all are slow, not polished and frankly embarrassing for the location. Clearly the management cannot run a beautiful ship. It took me 2 tries to get water last Friday and every order took a ridiculous amount of time with no check-ins or apologies. A 2 hr meal took 3 because of the service. Come on guys, I'm a fan...just get the service together and do our city proud.
Fantastic it’s my all time favorite location since the 80’s ROCK N ROLL
Historic. Built by Japanese crfstmen in Hollywood in 1913. Incomparable View and ambiance. Truly unique in LA.
My first visit to Yamashiro was excellent! I had a perfect evening in great surroundings, took in a great view of the Sunset from my table as an added bonus.
It's a great place to take your loved one for a special treat.
Amazing view, upscale sushi and venue without the pretentious atmosphere. Will certainly come back!
LOVE, LOVE this place!! Keep coming back because of the food and great service and the atmosphere is to die for.
Great sushi, try the deep fried rice sushi, and beautiful views at night!
Beautiful restaurant, delicious meal and a special place.
Very pleasantly surprised. My wife dined there years ago, and wanted to go back just for the view. You can’t beat the view, but we loved the food. Service was excellent .... we will definitely be back.
We had a great dinner there. The food and service are great.
The updated menu is much improved indeed
I was finally able to visit Yamashiro with my daughters, it didn't disappoint. We were lucky to have a clear day, blue sky and mild temperature, so the view was amazing.
Great views of downtown and Century City; service was very friendly and attentive, when present - could have used one more waiter in the area. The food was not bad at all but nothing to write home about - baby back ribs fell off the bone but flavor was nothing spectacular; nigiri portions were very conservative and same with the rolls - that said, I could not believe how much I paid. If you want to spend a good chunk of money for the view then this place is ideal, but do not expect to have your taste buds bedazzled.
The view from this restaurant is definitely fantastic. I wish it had been a bit more quiet but we were sitting next to a large party and a party with children.
The mixed drinks are superb!
Fabulous location with a view!!! I have to be gluten free and shellfish free and this was no problem!!! One of the sushi chefs is gluten free so they made us an entire sushi boat that accommodated my allergies including GF soy sauce.
Bday. It was good
My brother gave my wife & I a gift certificate
to have dinner at your beautiful & cozy restaurant.
We visited your place with a friend and was taken in by the breath taking views of downtown Los Angeles and scrumptious food was served that night. Even though we had a fantastic time, I honestly don’t know if
I can afford to go there often. Maybe for very
First time ever having Sashimi and I don’t eat textured raw fish and love it. Everyone should try this restaurant. Get dare place!
Perfect place for good food with an excellent view 😍
Of course you go here primarily for the view, but the food was not bad as well (albeit on the pricey side). They had a great half price wine night, but unfortunately the wine we wanted was not available and there was no substitution. Other than that, the service was good and we had a lovely time. This is a great place to take out of town friends whom you wish to wow....
beautiful ambiance and food was delicious. Only came here for brunch but I know the dinner is even more tasting. Will be back again!!
Had a great experience. Awesome views of Hollywood, downtown and the Westside. Food was delicious. Drinks for some reason they only had 2 out of all the whiskey list. 👎 tries one of the unfiltered sakes and it was yummy. Overall it's a great restaurant in a great location. Little pricey, but for the views and ambiance, it's worth it.
Service was awful, food quality was not worth the high price.
Great View But food is very average and menu not up to date
The restaurant itself was unique and the view was great! It was a little pricey for what it is, but it was nice for a special occasion. Service was very slow (we went on a Monday night), but I liked the place enough that I would give it a second chance.
I said to the restaurant that the dinner is for a happy belatde birthday of my girlfriend, and so the staff served a cake for us at the end of the dinner. Great Thanks!!
Beautiful grounds and view. The sampler platter was greasy, wish it had something grilled vs all fried, sea bass delicious, the mussels were dry with a thick curry sauce which was not as luscious as a broth. The mussels got cold & congealed in that thick Coconut sauce would have preferred a lemongrass broth to keep them moist & warm. Sashimi tako was very good as was the Sashimi Hamachi w/ truffle. The Lychee martinis were very tasty but we had to have the second round remade since they were too sweet. The ambiance can’t be beat but I think some of the food needs improvement. And I never understand when food comes out before drinks if drinks are ordered first.
When our waitress found out we were not going to get the 249.00 dish, her demeanor changed. We weren't given napkins and questions were met with a cold and off putting energy. Overall great venue, great view, unfortunately that night the service was not up to par
While you can't deny the ambiance and views that Yamashiro has to offer, our night was inexplicably ruined by our very rude and curt server. I don't think I have issues with servers in general, and having friends who work in this industry, I am empathetic when nights are busy. Unfortunately, this night was not very busy at all, and my girlfriend, whose Valentine's day we were celebrating and who is also Vegan, wanted to start with the sample platter as it had both vegan and non-vegan options. When it came out, we saw the spring vegetarian rolls were missing and wanted to ask our server if it was missing. We waited around 10 minutes before our server came back who finally told us that they were out - this seems like something you could'e mentioned beforehand and we would've ordered something that would allow her diet. Also, we had to ask other servers to get our server because she would take 10-15 minutes to come back to our table and not refill our water at all. Honestly, I don't mind if you're busy, but there was only 3 other tables around us with people. I really didn't feel welcome. In the end, when I went to pay the bill, the server brought my card back saying it was declined. I've had this happen with my card before and asked her to manually enter it, but she didn't take my check and instead went off for another 5-10 minutes before coming back, going back to manually enter my card (shocker it worked!), and coming back. I really want to give this place another chance as the hosts, the valet, and the general food and ambiance were mildly great, but I don't think I've ever felt uncomfortable from a server until this experience.
