The restaurant far exceeded my expectations. I felt like a king and my girlfriend felt like a queen. From the food to the service and ambiance, the experience was amazing.

It’s been approx 6 yrs since I’ve been to Yamashiro. Last time I was here was for my bday with approx 20 guests and it was great! This time i took my boyfriend out for his bday. It was his first time and he’s heard a lot of great things about it and so I surprise him!

With the great view, and ambiance he felt that the food was not comparable, but overall good! We were seated by the window and we had a beautiful view of Los Angeles. Our server was just no personable. Which I have to say was one big reason for the lack of 5 stars. And the food was just ok. Memorable night nonetheless!

Yamashiro building , gardens , view are excellent - unfortunately , it is priced so high and the service is not commensurate with the price nor is the food .
We have loved Yamashiro for many years - it deserves to have fine food and fine service for how classic and unique a restaurant it is . I think it's worse since the new ownership too . There's a new room with a sushi bar that's in the middle and looks out of place . Poor choices by new ownership .
I hope one day the Yamashiro experience is what it should be

Yamashiro Hollywood definitely lost it luster. It has one of the Top Sushi Chef in Kenny Yamada and he is holed up in the middle of the restaurant (dark with no views). We requested an Omakase and received several blank stares (no one knew what I meant). You guys have Chef Yamada (judge on Hell's Kitchen) and you don't highlight his strengths?? Chef Yamada knew exactly what my wife and I wanted and proceeded to honor our pre-booked request. We also ordered the pork cheeks and Glazed Cod to compare. Hands down the creative mind of Yamada Wins!!! Folks, if you want the view come for mediocre food but if you want transcending sushi come for Chef Yamada. Let Kenny Yamada offers you a glimpse of the luster that Yamashiro Hollywood had.

The experience was VERY disappointing I made my reservation 3 weeks ago for Sunday Brunch when I arrived I was informed that brunch was cancelled 2 or 3 weeks ago. I feel I should have been emailed informing me of the change. I believe the restaurant is going through a downward spiral so therefore I give them a big fat zero

This place is overpriced, service was whatever, food is just okay. If you have never been there, it’s ok to try it just for the experience. The view and nice though. I just wish they would up the quality of their food. Sushi boat $100 still served with dated cooked shrimp.

Thanks for a great time. Loved the food, Calamari was to die for, best I have ever had. Crispy rice Sushi so tasty. The Rib Eye dinner, wow! Birthday boy was happy. The walk through the gardens afterwards was perfect, took in all of our beautiful city, perfect nite cap.

Great experience but this place needs some TLC! For being a piece of Hollywood History, there should be more attention to detail. Ditch the tacky and embrace the chic of this incredible space.

The city view was good. Drinks are well made. Food is nothing special and not there best selling point. I bit pricey for what one gets. The building and grounds with a view are it’s strong pointes.

I have been here a few times. This was my first in a year since becoming vegan. Almost no options for vegan meal. Salad & 1 veggie roll. Weird for a Japanese cuisine. View is spectacular. Staff is nice. Cocktails were good. (East coast)

I was thoroughly disappointed with my experience here. They are clearly banking on the location and ambiance because the sushi menu and menu in general is very limited. The quality of the sushi was good not great, and the rolls we ordered were 18 dollars each, wrapped in the seaweed tighter and smaller than they should have been and the seaweed itself was more chewy, probably because it was so tightly wrapped. The sushi pieces we ordered were also $12 for 2 pieces and they were tiny. About 2/3 the size of other sushi spots. This combined with sitting there for 20 minutes waiting for our waiter to notice us and also him telling us that they might be out of that for multiple saki bottles we were thinking of ordering.

Recommendation: Save your money, if you go there just pay the 10 bucks for parking and get the view but do not eat there. Go to a better sushi spot that is worth the money.

We enjoyed our evening. There for a birthday. Requested birthday treat from frostless, and that never materialized, but otherwise enjoyed the view and garden. Get the giant fortune cookie. The kid in,you will rejoice.

I was Yamasiros's for a birthday dinner with my partner and although I enjoyed the cuisine, and ambience was very nice,
however, the manner in which most people dressed was disappointing for such an upscale restaurant, and the constant screams of babies crying both made the upscale experience less than I had hoped for. Yamashiro's should have a dress code, and a noise proof, childproof area for parent with babies and kids

We love Yamashiro. The restaurant unfortunately opened 20 minutes late so our 5 pm reservation with 2 small children was not ready. It took another 15 minutes for us to get seated and a server to greet us. Our children were starving and grouchy by this point. Once our server came, everything was FABULOUS! Mica was a great server and the food delicious. They did an amazing job of making our daughters 13th birthday feel super special. She was thrilled! We will be back. Be warned, the giant fortune cookie was GIANT! They are not kidding! I don't even like fortune cookies, but this is worth it!

It was my wife's and I wedding anniversary. We get there 15 min early for our reservation and wait. They didn't open the doors until 10 minutes after our reservation time / opening time and ther are about 15 other people ther waiting while the staff just walked back and forth inside watching us while we watched them. Next we are seated in a box corner so small we can't sit opposite each other but next to each other at 45 degrees. When we ask for another table the hostess cops an attitude. We go back to the main desk and they just did not have their act together. So the same hostess points out another small table right next to the stairs and in the walk aisle. They put tables in the darnedest places.... At that point I'm pissedbut it's our anniversary so I don't want it ruined and simply say we'll stay at the first table because it's the best of the bad and only options they've given. Then, they seat a family with 3 small kids next to use no seemed to have a needn't or everyone I the place to hear them. The kids are breaking glasses, crying, they parent are using team Disney parenting techniques and the entire experience was 180 degrees from those we've had at Yamashiro's previously. In fact it's one of my wife's favorite restaurants....or was.

A thinly veiled tourist trap.

While the location is beautiful and the building itself is impressive, the experience starts to fall apart in the details. I don't mind paying $20 for a whisky, but serving it in a low quality, thick-rimmed glass (or putting canned whipped cream on a $14 dessert) is just disrespectful to the guest. The signature rolls were mostly very Americanized, nearly all being covered in spicy mayo, unagi sauce, or both. The quality of the fish was fine though, and the citrus roll was actually fantastic. A word to the wise though, the sushi boat will not be enough for two people with modest appetites. We made sandwiches when we got home, lol. Nothing was terrible, but for my money it didn't feel like a valuable way to spend $200.

Overall, it just kind of felt like a restaurant that people with questionable taste would eat in to revel in their own wealth. Perhaps we should have tried their hot items instead, but I doubt I'll go back to find out.

I truly wish I could write a better review'; I was so looking forward the experience. The food was good. And yes the location is one of a kind. We got there early on a Sun night, 5 pm, hoping to beat the crowd. Turned out to be a slow evening; many open tables throughout the restaurant all evening; however, service was very slow. We were one of the first to the restaurant, but for some reason got placed in the corner. What really killed the evening was the valet, or lack thereof. Scary!! We waited 30 minutes for our car before we had to go find it ourselves, along with several other guests. No security; we could have driven off with the car our choice. It was total chaos. In the end, it took us 1.50 hours to get in our car and drive home, and it still cost me $10!!

We went to dinner prior to a Hollywood bowl show. It's very close by, easy valet. Prompt seating and service was great. The decor and atmosphere is very nice and traditional. The menu was ok. I expected more selections. I didn't see anything really appetizing. We ate sushi, it was good.
