Very classy and nice. Highly recommended! Beautiful views and great ambience
Outstanding location with a view of Hollywood, great service and good food!
This was an amazing restaurant! Service staff is so nice! The Sea Bass was off the charts! Highly recommend!
I can't say enough of our experience at Yamashiro. They gave us the most romantic table, as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, and our server was amazing. Alex treated us so good, we appreciated his attention to us and for the quality of service. The food was spectacular, the drinks, devine. They know what they're doing there, all at the highest level and highly recommend everyone to go. Thank you Yamashiro, from Mr. & Mrs. Guzman. 👍🙌😋
Only one of the main courses was good Birthday
While the food, drinks, and view are fantastic, I was disappointed overall. My family and I have dined here on multiple occasions in the past and the service has always been impeccable. This time I was shocked at how slow the service was, especially considering the cost of dining here. Those in the group who only ordered water only had one refill during an entire 3 hour dinner and that refill was in the first hour! Our party often had to wait upwards of 15 minutes when simply trying to get our waiter's attention. It took us nearly 2 hours to get dessert and the check sorted. The noise level was also very high. The people in my party could only hear the person next to them. To speak to the person across from you required shouting. Considering this was a big celebration dinner for my husband's birthday, I was disappointed with the overall experience. I would reconsider dining here with a group any larger than 2-4.
Food was excellent, vastly improved from when I previously went years ago. Prices are very high. Staff is friendly but extremely busy so service was fair.
Amazing food and ambiance. 10/10 recommend making a sunset reservation and arriving 30 minutes early for a drink at their outside terrace bar.
I been visiting Yamashiro for almost 10 years and always flawless service, food and drinks.
Best sunsets. I love this place!
A must for special occasions, but also a good place just to go and enjoy a great meal in a beautiful setting with fabulous views all around. We went for a group Birthday and received the Birthday Special which had a bottle of champagne and a giant fortune cookie with fruit and a sparkler included. Everything here is delicious and high-quality.
For took over one hour to arrive and was cold . Waiter was rude
Beautiful restaurant, beautiful view, tasty food. We liked everything we had but a little bit pricey.
Great view of the town, very friendly staff, great food and a lovely experience. I'll be back!
Brilliant. Came all the way from New Zealand and loved it. Awesome jazz band too. Service was amazing too. Especially the blonde front of house.
Beautiful location. Great food. Great service. A must!!!!!
Excellent food... very warm onsite though. My entire group was sweating the entire time, making everyone very uncomfortable.
Riquísimo todo y el lugar espectacular. Muy bonita vista
We loved every creative and expertly prepared and served dish, from the starters to the sushi, sides, and desserts. The spectacular views, gardens, and decor, as well as the winding drive to get there made this a very memorable meal.
It’s such a shame that this location isn’t put to better use. The best thing about this restaurant is the location and architecture. It has the potential to be something really special but it’s currently an expensive tourist trap. The food is not horrible but but painfully mediocre. The music was confusing and too loud and we never really knew who our server was. The location is tempting but please be strong and avoid. There are sooo many amazing restaurants in LA so don’t waste your time on this one.
Crazy bad experience at Yamashiro. They sat us in the courtyard with 2 other couples...no view, loud Motown music playing, average service at best, and food that had very little relation to the Japanese name & surroundings. If you want the view, have a drink in their bar, and then go somewhere else for a nice dinner.
Great service. Waiter was very entertaining and attentive. Menu savvy. Altogether it was a great experience.
Love, love Yamashiro! Excellent service and just beyond beautiful view and vibe!
The food quality is exceptional. The view, of course, is unmatched.
Everything was fabulous except when we ordered the fortune cookie for dessert and it was awful.
Everything was great we just expected to get a better sitting acomodaciones since we did reserve with time. But overall is was great
The view from the Restaurant is wonderful. Our server was wonderful! I can’t remember her name but she was thin, caucasian with red hair. Only a few things were a little off, like paying $16 dollars for a medium size bottle of cheap tasting hot sake. Also also the crab cake was not good at all. It wasn’t really a crab cake at all, it was just a large ice cream scoop shape of hot crab meat, scallions and peppers on top of a pool of spicy mayo? But by the time we had polished off 3 bottles of $16 sake ($48) I wasn’t to worried about it. Lastly, the bathrooms looked very neglected. I feel like a mountain palace could probably afford to hire a bathroom attendant.
Other than that, it was great energy, great service, and everything besides the crab cake was excellent! I recommend getting down to New Orleans or Maryland and learning how to make a proper crab cake. Or change the name of the dish to pile of steaming crab and mayonnaise. Thankyou Yamashiro.
We had a nice dinner for 3 on a Wednesday evening. However, there was a very large awards party in the other half of the restaurant, and the mandatory valet became paralyzed for 40 minutes! Wasn’t sure we would ever make it out of there.
Table service was terrible.
Food was mediocre.
Our server was ignoring us and forgot plates etc. I asked for a taste of wine before a glass. He forgot it until Galway through the meal. Then just brought the glass. He was ending his shift and just wanted to rush us. It was my first time here and don’t know that I’ll be back.
Great views, great staff, on top of everything from the get go! Just a wonderful experience!
If you want Sushi, Japanese cuisine go to Kabuki, if you're just for the view and ambience Not the food then that's Yamashiro.
Terrible service for expensive food that tasted cheap.
I’ve been going to Yamashiro for 40 years.
I was unable to read the menu because I forgot my glasses.
The waiter highly recommended a dish without telling me the dish alone cost $218 and that I had to cook the meat which was extremely thin and flavorless. It came with over cooked cold broccoli and cold small potatoes I had a few bites only. I was very disappointed. I spoke to the insensitive manager who did not care at all. I spoke to the waiter who was very rude and extremely insensitive. When dining out one should trust that a server will provide information if a dish is that expensive and should have let me know that I had to cook my own food, I never would have agreed to that. Yamashiro is nothing like what it use to be, it’s now all about the money and zero concern about the service. It lost all of its glamour.
I will never go again.
A must visit during any visit to Los Angeles! So classic, fun and delicious.
We loved Yamashiro, the location is wonderful, the food was great and it was an ideal location to eat prior to the Hollywood Bowl.
Good place of view with great atomsphere
Our food was fabulous, everything from the wine to the appetizer, meal and dessert. Our waitress was attentive and friendly and made amazing recommendations. The restaurant was clean and beautiful inside and out. I was very impressed and I’m excited to go back.
Yamashiro means mountain palace. The location is hidden behind some property on a hill. It is very steep. But once uphill the city view is amazing. There is a beautiful garden, small pond w koi fish and the laughing Buddha statue offering a feeling of peace. The restuarant decor is Japanese inspired with shoji doors & light fixtures w a mural in entryway. It is handicapped accessible if you're in a wheelchair. Assuming due to the steep hill, narrow roadway and limited parking, valet is mandatory. Valet is $10.
Our party of 6 dined on Sunday afternoon. The Sunday Brunch experience was great. We were greeted & seated by the host. She was pleasant. The wait staff, Ricky was great. The bottomless mimosas were definitely endless. The food was the typical brunch: eggs, biscuit, potatoes, omelette station, waffle station, meat carving station, fruit, and dessert table but yummy. The nice surprise was sushi and crab legs.
Every thing was self serving buffet style therefore no portion control. The food handling team tried to replenish but with the crowd, the food would quickly disappear. It tasted pretty good though.
The price is $45/per adult and children age 4-12 is $24. Bottomless mimosas are an additional $10. We did have a problem with our bill being charged as 6 adults and 6 bottomless mimosas when there was a child dining with us that could not drink. And the waiter said the manager told him that anyone over 8 years old is considered a adult. We literally had to show what was on the website. The manager came to our table to explain and resolve the situation. The receipt was changed about 3 times because their system could not remove charges so the manager applied gift certificates. Overall, great view, good music and great customer service. Will visit again for the dinner menu and night view.
May have been a little under staff. Maybe didn't expect the amount of people especially with a wedding party going on.
The Udon noodles were undercooked and small. The Koshu Braised Wagyu Short Ribs tasted gamey, like liver, gross! The Malibu sushi roll was delicious. The waiter was pleasant, but didn't ask if everything was okay with our meal, even though I literally had 1 small bite of the ribs and my plate looked virtually untouched. The view is SPECTACULAR! Doubt I will go back though. ☹
Food=B, Service=C-, Ambiance=B, Valet Parking=F- While the food was better than its been in years, the service was geared towards tourists; I’m a local. Valet managed to scrape the back of my car hours after I bought it brand new. The server just forgot one course, but never offered to comp anything. It will be another ten years before I go back. The multitude of tourists go for the view. That said: Have a drink at the bar, take your pics, then move on. There’s much higher quality in other restaurants.
