One of the most unique dining experiences we have ever had. The view of the city was so spectacular and the food and service was sublime. Thank you for an excellent anniversary dinner!
Beautiful restaurant with scenic views and very fresh fish!
Great atmosphere for a date or group setting. Came to celebrate with a dinner and was pleasantly surprised they brought out a lil bday dessert for our birthday guests. Love the ambiance and food was delicious. Great view of dtla from the lookout point where you valet the car. Will need to check out pagoda bar next time we’re up there.
The garden was beautiful and the food was delicious...will definitely be going back!
I don't understand why this reservation didn't qualify for my Open Table points, it has in the past.
Really over priced for the quality and the amount of food you get.
It is a unique and beautiful restaurant. We brought my mom here for her birthday and the last time we were here was about 50 years ago when my mom would bring us when I was a young child. There is an outside patio with a Japanese garden, very pretty. My mom said it changed a little bit but still very nice.
Panoramic Mountain View over LA city, ancient building with Japanese ambience. But food quality is average and over priced.
Was there 2xs in a month. Now I wanna try dinner soon. Love the music and our waiter jared is fabulous and attentive. Although it's brunch he made a cute birthday plate for my son. Highly recommend this place. Pricey but I'll be back.
Brunch buffet was horrible. Nothing many kinds of food and food is very dry. Def. not worth $45per person. What a rip off!
My wife and I have dined at Yamashiro for the past 30 years especially whenever we have guests from out of town.
We arrived 15 minutes prior to our reservation with our entire party and still did not get seated till 20 minutes after our reservation time.
We were sat at a makeshift table for 2x2 stacked together against the window. Very uncomfortable.
The crunchy crab rolls were over cooked and hard as a rock. The vegetable rolls were too oily and they didn't even have shrimp dumplings.
The manager was very kind and understanding and even took care of our valet but as there was a large graduation party, we couldn't even show our guests the closed off koi pond.
The waiter was excellent and so was the manager this night but I am definitely not driving all the way there with my guests for that experience.
Very sad. Had so many great memories there.
Amazing view and fair food. Try the green dragon roll... really amazing
All the sushi and shamimi we had was amazing/ The fish was buttery and practically melted in your mouth.
Jared was such a sweet server, he made sure we were very well taken care of. The view and food was amazing! Will be coming back again.
We had a great time. The food was outstanding and the ambiance was upbeat and even romantic.
It was our anniversary dinner, and we were quite disappointed. We were seated next to the males bathroom in the garden. Our waiter didn't even bother to say "happy anniversary", even though the host confirmed that you are celebrating your anniversary tonight.
The variety of fish was very limited. The oysters (the special of the night) were not very fresh. The garden is nice, but you do not see the view from the garden.
If you love sushi, this is not the place to come.
Seriously the worst service I've ever had. We didn't even get a drink order in until we were at the table for 40 minutes. Then we were basically rushed out after being told we only had 2 minutes to order dessert. Can we at least get a second round of drinks I ask the manager? All of that stuff is already put away for the night, we are told. It wasn't and there were bartenders behind the bar still. All of this as this idiot manager is giving me some patronizing BS about labor laws and so forth. Get a new job pal. You suck at your current one.
Great spot, period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was our first time at this much recommended restaurant and we were not disappointed! I don't know where to start . . . the drinks were delicious! I loved my Aperol Spritz with Saki! Three ate sushi which they tell me was amazing, and I had the best burger ever - the Wagyu Beef burger! The spring roll and edamame apps were delicious. The location was truly beautiful, our waiter was very efficient and delightfully personable. We all thought the value was spot on! Perfectly cooked, well presented and much enjoyed. And dessert . . . banana spring rolls & strawberry filled donuts! This is the first donut I've had in years that didn't give me a stomach ache so I think they must be careful about their frying oil. Kudos to you, Yamashiro! We look forward to visiting again . . .
Had so much fun! Took some friends from out of town here for a birthday celebration. It was a nice way to show them the fancy side of Los Angeles, especially with the beautiful view.
It’s been over 25 years since our last visit - lots of changes to decor & menu but the experience is as wonderful as ever! Felt like a re-discovery of an old friend - we used to come for drinks & to watch the sun set over LA in our dating & early marriage years. Even our restaurant-weary, jaded New York daughter loved it - said it was magical! Had a marvelous Mother's Day dinner. Can’t wait to return next visit.
Mother’s Day dinner was a wonderful experience.
Revamped Menu was a nice surprise. The ribs were AMAZING and the sushi was fresh. Beautiful views and excellent service. Interior is a little dated but the koi pond room is beautiful and perfect for a party or event. Of course the views are awesome. Highly recommend
Really good location, service could have been little better. Too much noise from the sports bar. Over all worth going there.
The view was amazing. The service was good. The food was just ok, everything was a bit salty. I would go again but mainly because of the ambiance
Took my family there for mother's day. The waiters were very courteous, but the 2 guys working at the carving station and the omelet station were very rude. Food was okay, but not much choices. Not worth it, and paying for the view. They gave us the furthest table from the food too. Will not go again.
The ambulance, food & service were great! Looking forward to going back.
I was disappointed with brunch. For $60/person, I expected much more of a variety of foods. The majority of foods offered were cheap filler types such as french toast and eggs. They did offer prime rib but no potatoes or vegetables to pair as sides. Additionally, I went to the restaurant expecting more Japanese foods and the only Japanese food was sushi. I will not be returning.
Everything was going good... but after we got our food, our waiter was not accessible anymore. He was not around most of the time to ask if we need anything or to even refill our drinks which we needed to ask someone else to do so because we were very thirsty. I think throughout the night, we only had 2 glass of drink. :(
The food wasn’t flavorful. Our waitress wasn’t helpful and actually kind of rude. The only thing nice about this place is the view. The area that we were seated in was too loud
Great experience other than the valet when we picked up our car. He was flat out rude!
Service was great (Jordan was so sweet.) Food was so delicious. We had sushi, duck, and ribs. Also got sweet udon noodles which were amazing. The sushi was tried by two men who hate fish- they said this sushi could get them to like sushi! The spring roll appetizers were yummy too. We got a table with a view as asked, and a comped little mochi dessert for my husband's birthday (we said we were too full and mochi was just right.) It was spectacular to see the sunset and the city view change from day to night. It says business casual, but we felt like many people besides us wore less formal outfits such as t-shirts and nice pants with sneakers. But unless you go here all the time, why not have an excuse to dress up a little?
I brought my boyfriend and friend to celebrate a bday, new job and graduation. Dinner was delicious, the view was amazing and service was very good. We ordered drinks, small sushi boat, beef Wagyu nigiri, the burger and a few other things. We also had creme brûlée and the s’mores brownie for dessert. Everything was great. Small thing, I noted in the reservation that it was for a birthday but it was not addressed at dinner. Not a big deal as it was for an adult so I’m not holding it against the review. Highly recommend Yamashiro for a nice dinner and great experience.
Love the view at this restaurant, but the service has really gone downhill. It is a shame, because if I'm not able to celebrate a simple holiday like Mother's day here, why would I want to bring my out of town clients to this place and give them my business?
Wish there was better seating
The service was not too fast & not too slow, it was perfect. We had a seat with a view and I would recommend! Ask about any items that are not on the menu, like the scallops appetizer.. very tasteful! The place is understandably loud because like any great restaurant they are busy. The Malibu sushi roll was delicious. The baked salmon was just the right size and their cocktails are a must try.
Beautiful views, great food and attentive service. Thanks!
Food was exceptional. Waited 45-min for our table and another hour for our food. Management was supportive and accommodating. They made up for the otherwise mediocre service.
I NEVER REVIEW BUT It was so nice. I didn’t even know that place existed. It was so nice and the view omg. My girlfriend and I are always looking for nice places to go. This place will definitely be revisited.
A wonderful evening now a wonderful memory.
