Katya was amazing, food was great. Worth what we paid for. Bar id's generous. Sliders are delicious. Will definitely come back for the boat.

I've dined here for Valentine's Day before, but this year it was terrible. For $125 set price, you would expect some kind of steak choice, but nothing. I had a carrot based appetizer, salad, a few shrimps, an ahi tuna entree, and a red velvet dessert. That is not a value of $125. Previous years were better, and included a delicious and valued steak choice. Somebody in management made a terrible decision this time. And waiting at the valet was an unclassy experience, hearing everyone from customers to actual staff cursing aloud about the slow situation. Highly vulgar environment full of anxiety. Some cars took 2 hours to come back to their owners. Yes, 2 hours. And mine was dreadfully close to that. What happened, Yamashiro? You're better than this. Still, the in-house staff is friendly and efficient, no complaints there. Clearly, they have all the right people working inside, but all the wrong brains making decisions above.

Waited hour and half for valet to bring my car. I don’t believe in leaving reviews like I’m some critique, but this genuinely sucked. My girlfriend missed work the next day because we left so late.

I won’t leave a yelp review to tarnish your business, but Jesus Christ this sucked. Figure that stuff out, don’t make a logistical nightmare just for revenue. Short term decisions have ruined any future opportunity for me and many others.

Don’t go there for valentines!!!!!! The portion sizes are ridiculously small, preset menu, overpriced, and food was horrible. The service was bad. We waited forever for our food and car. They were severely understaffed, both in the restaurant and the valet. Plus, no one mentioned to us about the preset $125 per person menu before we actually got there.... and we left hungry!

We went for the special Valentine's Day dinner. Had a great time, because we love each other and aren't snobs, but like, you should know -- for $125/person pre-fix, the sushi was supermarket-grade and the service was frankly embarrassing. We ordered a bottle of a unfiltered, nigori sake, they brought us a different bottle of a different kind of sake, and when we asked about it, they said they were out of the one we'd ordered, then brought us a new bottle of a different type of nigori -- when the bill came they charged us for the bottle we didn't order, which was more expensive than the bottle we did order. It was just very slapdash and unprofessional for a $350 dollar dinner. The food was crap and we both felt sick afterwards. Would not recommend.

Food is great for Asian food lovers, miss the old oyster shooters etc. this is a japanese place not french. The service was great. Only bad thing was the Valet, horrible waited 2 hours, got my valet fee back but not worth it. Next time I either park myself or not go at all. The restaurant managers helped to get my car and that was the only reason I got it.

Nobody from Open Table to the lady at Yamashiro that called to get my cc info explained how it was a valentine menu that you could not divert from. My date and I hated everything offered that night. I came for the tempura and babyback ribs, not this boozgy small plates at $125 a person. Waiter told me it was several other tables going thru the same thing. Now we are stuck and not happy. My night sucked!!! Bring the old Yamashiro back!!!!

The sushi was good but everything else was burned! Shrimp was overcooked and the Ahi Tuna with sesami seeds was super dry. The waiter did apologize but they didn't attempt to offer us a new dish or to remake it. Considering the $280 i spent that night, the dinner was definitely was not worth it.

If it wasn't for the environment, I would rate my experience 1 star.

We were straight up lied to for Valentine's Day. They called me a few weeks prior and the girl said "it's going to be $125 for Omakase". I had a feeling it would be too good to be true. We showed up and a pre-set menu costing $125 per person. We started with a shot of soup (literally thicksoup in a shot glass), three sad pieces of deep fried shrimp, and a spinach salad heavily drenched in dressing. For the main course we were served 2 rolls of 4 pieces each and 4 pieces of sashimi. For dessert, I had a chocolate flan and my girlfriend chocolate cake (??). Not even sure what it was. It was the only thing that was somewhat tasty. The whole meal might have cost the restaurant $15-20? The sushi rolls tasted like the same ones you would buy at Pavilions or Ralph's. It was sad. And expensive. With a few cocktails, I literally paid $400 for a crappy meal and a nice view.

Great food combined with amazing views. Service was excellent, server was attentive but we did not feel rushed. Sushi quality was good - fresh. Good amount of options on the menu, perhaps a few more vegetarian options would be nice as well.

Yamashiro’s food and service are totally solid, but it’s really all about the views and dining in the heated garden. Such cool ambiance and so much history in this hollywood gem. Don’t rush through dinner here, roam the building, walk the garden, take in the view and check out the historical photos.

Sitting within the "inside" dining area allows for outstanding views of L.A. The Wagyu Beef Nigiri appetizer arrived quickly after ordering, was perfectly tender, and melts like butter when eaten. Our drinks were refilled regularly, and our main courses took about 30 to arrive after their order. My wife enjoyed the Orange soy glaze Seabass. It was light and had good flavor. The pork tenders I ordered, while tender, suffered from an excessive amount of the duck demi-glaze reduction, and made the overall dish a bit too bitter for my tastes. I would not order that entree again.

Everything was perfect except the veggie spring roll appetizer was not available. A suitable substitute appetizer was not on the menu.

Excellent service. Filet mignon was ordered medium rare and was more like medium well, dry, burnt a little outside. Double baked potato had wasabi? Nothing to write home about. Sprinkle of green tasteless shoots on steak. Companions said sushi was OK. Tourist place, nice view, gardens. Kiddies running wild. Forgettable compared to 70s era.

Beautiful setting. Have been there before, but service not as sharp this time. Also lacked good vegetarian options. Had to order a chicken and vegetable dish without the chicken and was charged for the entree as well.

Server was inexperienced. Had to request refills on tea twice.

Heard other patrons complain about issues also.

About twenty years ago, I used to frequent Yamashiro's about once a month, but I haven't been back in quite some time. I was very excited to take my husband there for a date night, but it didn't go as I'd hoped.

For starters, the place just feels run down. Patched paint, floors that aren't taken care of, that kind of thing. It just looks old and poorly maintained in some spots. I ordered an appetizer and it wasn't avaiable, so I took the alternative, vegetable tempura, which was flavorless to say the least. I ordered the filet mignon for my meal, my husband ordered the chicken thighs. Beautiful presentation when the food came. My steak was fine, but my husband's chicken was poorly prepared. The chicken was undercooked and rubbery, so we sent it back and he ended up eating half of my steak. For what we paid for the meal, it simply wasn't worth it, unfortunately. But the view, as always, was beautiful, so that was some consolation.

I was disappointed and my husband will never go back, so it's a sad ending to what used to be one of my favorite restaurants.

It was our anniversary, we politely requested a table with a view... the wire we got was of the parking valet Stuffed in a corner. Our waitress ignored us for most of the evening, paying more attention to her larger tables... I’m sure she was thinking “bigger table, bigger tip” the food wasn’t anything to write home about and the noise level was out of control.... really quite the tourist trap.

The ambiance and mod of the restaurant is perfect for a date. The food was great and tasty. The only bad part is there's a table on the back that was very dark and that was table that we were seated at but we told our waittress and she was so sweet to find another table for us that was located in the middle of the restaurant where the garden was.

The view and ambiance at this Hollywood landmark are beautiful and captivating. However the food is just average - and for the high cost, is not a good value. I prefer much less expensive though more authentic Japanese restaurants in Little Tokyo.

The city view and Japanese building are magnificent !

The food was average till dessert came... awful crème brûlée ever! Service is not relative to price for such nice location and atmosphere.

Management and service really need to be improved here to meet luxury standards ... feeling to be in a cheap place sometimes ... also please.... clean restroom! Trash everywhere on a Sunday non busy night.... inacceptable.

Will come back just for a drink to enjoy the view!
