Arrived for 9:30 reservation. Waited 30 min after arriving to be seated in table that was open and in front of us the entire time, and another 30 minutes before our order was taken. The restaurant wasn’t busy. Sushi was brought out first before any other appetizers or even chopsticks. Eating half our meal with a fork was odd. Edamame was brought out last.
thank you to the kind waitress, and waiter you guys went above and beyond to light the candles for my mothers birthday and were extra curious to recommend amazing options!
Yamashiro is a very special place due to its location primarily. The food and service could be better for such a high price. We ordered medium hamburger and the steak. They both arrived rather well done. Of course we could return and ask for another one. I am sure they would accommodate us. However, we didn't want to keep waiting. I recommend beef ribs - very soft and tastes well.
I would still recommend it as a special place, be aware it is very costly. Probably won't return too soon.
Very beautiful place and the food was delicious.
We were excited to try a new brunch spot as my friends and I are frequent brunchers. We loved the location. I thought the food was really good, very tasty chicken and nice thick, crisp bacon. They had benedicts but no other egg choice though so I was a little disappointed there.
The biggest disappointment was the service. It took forever to get water and then even longer to get our mimosas. It also took awhile to get plates cleared. Speaking of plates - they were way behind on dishes as more than once people were waiting for plates (and the dessert bar had plastic plates, which was very weird). It took so long for drinks we finally asked to speak to the manager.
The manager totally deflected to the owners saying something like they did not listen to the staff for changes and that we should write a review and maybe they'd listen. It was just very odd and unprofessional I felt; however, the owners should definitely know - you need better service and I think it's because there was a lack of staff.
Usually brunch spots have separate people bringing drinks and clearing plates but our waitress seemed to have to do everything ... even if other restaurants don't separate staff/duties, they definitely have enough staff so their tables are attended properly.
It was just a poor experience. We had a great view but we happened to be a table not near an air vent so we were also quite warm throughout.
One positive was that after we spoke to the manager we did get our drinks/refills faster and he came back to check on us a couple times. Still not sure I'd ever go back or recommend to a friend though. Too bad.
The waitress was very nice but seemed to forget about our table.
Food was just okay, not many choices . The service was just terrible . Had to keep asking for water or mimosas.
Went for the Sunday bottomless mimosa brunch. The food was okay.
Crab legs were too salty
sushi rolls decent
shrimp cocktail was good
prime rib - they are stingy with the slices so you literally have to request for two pieces
Overall it was a good experience because of the company I was with. The service was great. The server kept bringing the mimosas by so that was a plus. Like I said, food was decent (nothing special compared to other brunches of this kind). The view is always great. I had the Travelzoo deal and they still charged an extra 11.88 on top of tax, which I'm not sure what that was for.
Food was delicious but service was not that great. Didn't feel looked after at all. Hardly any follow up from our original order. Also mains came before the starter dishes had been removed and the waiter didnt attempt to remove them until we asked nor did he acknowledge the mistake. For the price it should have been a great. We got better service in much cheaper restaurants and cafes. Disappointing.
Great ambiance and service. Staff were nice. Food was good
It was our first time dinning here. I was not Impressed enough to come back.
I got the Sea Bass and honestly it was so dry. Normally my husband and I share a meal when we go out to dinner because we can’t finish it. This time we both got a meal a piece and shared a appetizer.
2 hours later we where both snacking which is unusual for us. Maybe we where just extra hungry this time!
The view is amazing though!
Food was great. Location is beautiful!!! A little too loud for the type of dining I was expecting. It is a very busy place. Was sad part of the venue was closed for a private event.
The waitress was very nice and helpful towards the menu and over all great service besides coming to the table maybe what felt like sect 20-25 minutes. The food was amazing and the ambiance was impeccable. The noise was a little too loud for me but not to much to not enjoy ourselves. Over all it was an amazing date night and will for sure make another trip over there in the future to surprise my woman again.
Love this place. Amazing ambiance and view. Food is great. Love going here
I had family in town and I wanted to take them somewhere special. I felt horrible for choosing this place. We had a 6:45 reservation for 5 (four adults and one kid), were seated at 7:11pm. It took 20 minutes before our server came by our table. We placed our order for food and drinks and it took another 35 minutes for drinks to arrive. The service was awful. We had to get up from the table 3 times to look for our waiter or a server. Overall the food was ok. Overpriced and expensive and not worth the wait. There are so many great places to eat in LA, the only positive about this place was the view, but then I’m reminded about the $10 valet charge and the fact We had 3 cars with us.... such a waste.
Excellent except for “live” music, which was completely unnecessary and an unwelcome and noisy distraction.
the view the ambiance the service was exceptional.thank you for an enjoyable night
The service was outstanding, the ambiance was perfect, the food was phenomenal... and the view... set the mood for the entire evening!
Dinner with a great view. Staff was amazing and so kind to us. Food was very good
The views are absolutely incredible.
Sunday brunch for a busy weekend. They do not have enough food and always running out of the sushi crab legs and shrimp and very limited in desserts. and they don’t have any AC and they can’t even offer champagne on time. Even thou it is a travelzoo voucher and they did not provide the value for you. Kind of disappointing for the restaurant
Good brunch with lovely selection and beautiful city views. the building is a historical building with Japanese architecture and gardens.
Good for the price as we had a special promotion. Service wasn’t bad, we were just seated a little isolated. It would also be appreciated if the server, after quoting a lower price, verified that we still wanted to purchase/consume the beverages at a higher price. Seeing a bill for higher than the expected/quoted isn’t something people are going to be happy about.
I was celebrating being a one year Cancer Survivor and 33 years of marriage. I mentioned that when I made the reservation but it wasn’t acknowledged which was fine because I asked for a table with a view when I made my reservation through Open Table and I had a fabulous table. I will say Open Table ROCKS!
Brunch was good food, but they kept running out of seafood.
I have a family of 5 and I had purchased the Travelzoo deal for 4, figuring that we would pay the regular price for our 8 year old daughter. We had were charged an extra $5 above the regular price for a child. When we asked why, the waiter said the price increase was because of our travelzoo deal, which didn't make any sense to us. That was certainly not in the fine print of the travelzoo deal at all. For such an iconic restaurant, to nickel and dime your customers like that because they had purchased some sort of a deal for your restaurant is ridiculous. I had wanted to purchase another deal but I am seriously having second thoughts.
Food was good but they were a little cheap on the prime rib. You only get a small thin slice and you pretty much have to beg for a second slice. The crab legs were the best there though. Overall, family had a good time but the overcharging did leave a bad taste in our mouth and tainted our overall experience.
This was the First weekend for this Travelzoo discount for Yamashiro. Seating was delayed. Cold food was not kept on ice, so cold items were warm and worries of food turning bad was a concern. Food was not kept full on trays. Many trays were empty, and not refilled quickly. Problems with people having to walk through the hostess station where people were waiting to be seated, and people walking to the buffet area was an entanglement. The food was only mediocre and should have been better for the prices that Yamashiro was charging. However, it do think that you are paying for the view, and the view is nice.
Our experience started by being led to a nonexistent table in an area that would have made our dining experience more pleasant than it became. We were eventually seated in an area near the bar which was extraordinarily loud. The food was nothing exceptional including the raved about cod dish. If you come you come for the view, but ours looked out over a big Neón Trailer Park sign. Overall I was very disappointed. The worse meal we
This was my first time at Yamashiro. The views of Los Angeles were amazing! Our waitress, Asia, was delightful and very attentive! Will certainly be back!
It's been over 10 years since I last dine here, I remember the great view and the so-so food. I thought I'd try it again, saw that the review have gotten better, so I went for my wedding anniversary. Food was a little better, but for a restaurant at this caliber and price they can do better. The day we arrived was the second hottest of the year and they sat us outside in the garden, which would have been nice if it wasn't so hot. We asked for indoor, but they nothing was available until hours later, so we sat outside. When we sat down we notice ants on the table, I'm sure they were looking for a cool place to hide from the heat as well. On my resv I add that is was my wedding anniversary, thinking maybe they would a recognize it, nope. During our time their our wait staff rarely came by to check on us, I'm sure he was trying to keep cool as well.
Would I recommend to anyone? If you plan on going for the view only, I would say yes, for dinner or drinks, I would find somewhere else.
The location is wonderful however everything else was a disappointment. The Pagoda bar was closed. Even when we checked in later at 7:30, it never opened. The restaurant looks outdated. No table cloth for the $ that this restaurant commands. The food was overwhelmingly bad. The service staff was wonderful and attentive which is basically the only good thing I can say about this place. Glad we tried it so we can say we did but never again.
The staff, food, atmosphere were all terrific
About 15 years ago when I first came to this restaurant, it was top notch, recently I came in for a special occasion and was seated next to the parking lot(pretty much) then asked the hostess to move us, she looked annoyed and she fetched someone else to seat us elsewhere. There were screaming kids around which killed the vibe of what I thought the place used to be (classy). The waiter we had was amazing, his name is RJ and the food was pretty tasty. Not sure if I’d come back especially since the prices are off the chart expensive.
I love how they have a musical performer. Very relaxing ambiance.
Very nice experience
Food is great but the reviews are spot on for terrible service. Only ordered an Omakasa sushi boat and we were there for 2 hours. Will go again but only when I have 3 hours to spare
Spent a wonderful 4th of July dinner with an amazing view of the fireworks afterwards. Would have been nice if the outdoor bar had been open though.
Yamashiro is such a gorgeous, iconic restaurant....a 100+ year old Japanese palace in the Hollywood Hills. Spectacular view of Hollywood and L.A. It looks like a movie set and has been used in many Hollywood films. You can really feel like you are in Japan when you walk by the beautiful indoor garden. The food is always good and the menu has changed slightly since my last visit... Love the sashimi plates and the "sushi boat" was excellent, huge and dramatic looking. The new "chocolate soufflé" dessert and the brownie with a "giant marshmallow" on top was really good. Fabulous place to take a date, a birthday or friends visiting from out of town. The bar is fun too. Great service.
I was a bit disappointed when I looked at the manual. It's a classy Japanese historical restaurant but the manual was changed 3 months ago. I didn't expect to see Honey BBQ ribs on the manual. The view of the restaurant is great and no question about that. I would suggest to take a picture instead of having a meal there.
Went for the Monday night noodle night, was only given main menu so had to ask about the specials which I think was dodgy.. cocktails were weak, ambience was touristy lots of families on their phones.. Just not what I imagined. The food was good though but pricey for what it is. This place needs some love, it's looking tired.
