Yama Ratings and Reviews
Enjoyed an excellent meal here, from start to finish. We had the short rib sticky buns to start and those were delicious. For our mains we did the blackened scallops, the poke, and the Hammerhead roll. Everything was great, but the poke and the Hammerhead were the stars. Apparently the poke can be quite spicy so we asked that ours be tamed down a bit and the spice level was perfect. We finished with the tempura brownie bites. They were very good, but be warned that it is a lot of dessert. I believe there were 6-7 bites and there was no way we could have eaten more than two each (my husband actually only had one). Obviously it was quite a rich dessert! Service was excellent as well. One of our favorite meals in Vail during our stay.
Too tight to navigate with crutches, but food is good and service is very friendly and helpful. Rolls were creative and offer great tasting combinations, especially the Randy Roll. Nigiri cuts were a bit disappointing. #2 sushi in Vail, after the world-renown Matsuhisa. Yama is owned by locals and is a nice option for those craving sushi.
We had a phenominal dinner, even though we made reservations for a table we chose to eat at the bar instead. The sushi chefs prepared incredible sushi rolls and each had their own individual specials that were to die for. The king crab claws along with the japanese tuna tacos on the kitchen menu were absolutely incredible. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, our waitress chelsea was also the bar tender so we expected that she'd be busy making drinks, but she took the time to help us understand the menu and make helpful suggestions that we needed. She also made some incredible cocktails for us the juan diablo and the hot for sensai. With the small dining room and limited bar seating Yama has an incredible ambiance and sense of closeness, we saw tables chatting with other tables, and making suggestions to one another. Overall it was an extremely enjoyable expierence and I can't wait to go back and try more.
I've reviewed it before and been here many times! It is always 5 star food , and last few times fabulous service without sitting at the sushi bar! We go here and mostly here for our sushi all our trips to Vail. Can't get enough. And it's FUN with great music and awesome ambience!
Great and authentic Japanese food. the restaurant is in a simple setting, with an excellent service. Although it was busy season, my friend and I sat for about two hours and we were never rushed. Priced reasonably compared to other Vail Japanese restaurants. Worth trying if you look for a 'casual' but authentic Japanese place.
