Nestled in the Vail Village, this sophisticated sushi and Japenese restaurant offers an intimate and fun dining experience. With a menu that focuses on fresh fish and a variety of specialty cocktails, this surprisingly chic restaurant fulfills the needs of the health conscious and fun-seeking individuals, and fits right into Vail’s exceptional nightlife.

Yama's Japanese-born chef Ted Minami's traditional approach to the artistry of Japanese cuisine expertly compliments wild child, chef Chris Aycock's innovative techniques. This unique blend satisfies the most discriminating palate and is sure to delight, and is further expressed by the smart ambiance and crimson lit dining room. While patrons dine to the sounds of acid jazz, glances of the Rocky Mountains and conversations about the day's snow adventures can be a perfect reminder of the fact that they are dining in one of the most picturesque ski town's in the world.

The food is always outstanding. They have specialty items that we don’t get in Portland, Oregon that are very creative and WORK. Can’t say I’ve had a bad menu selection. The service is friendly, but getting a table can be a creative adventure. The restaurant is popular and TINY. I’ve read lots of complaints, but if you are a little flexible and understanding, I have found that they work hard to accommodate. I come for a week in Vail a year and have been doing so for 12 years. I will continue to schedule two dinners a week there.

Nice place- cozy table placement- NYC close. Food was really nice. Fresh fish- all enjoyed their meals. The seaweed salad was icy cold- new experience. Would pass on the spicy salmon rolls but all the rest we had was great. Service was outstanding. Note: they serve very quickly so if you want things at your pace, order accordingly.

Very disappointing after good OT reviews. Tried 6 different dishes, all were bland except for the spicy edamame.

Excellent food. We ordered nigiri: toro, uni and several other types of tuna as well as the Summer in Vail roll and wagyu strips. So good we ordered a second round of the nigiri and beef and bought our chef his favorite drink. The same week, we did Chef’s omakase at Matsuhisa and preferred our Yama dinner hands down (Matsuhisa was very good as well but didn’t hit it out of the park like Yama in our opinion).

Love their selection of rolls and sashimi. The sashimi in particular has several options with various sauces (e.g, yuzu), cilantro, etc.
