While patrons dine to the sounds of acid jazz, glances of the Rocky Mountains and conversations about the days snow adventures can be a perfect reminder of the fact that they are dining in one of the most picturesque ski towns in the world.
thin slices of yellowfin tuna dabbed with fresh wasabi root wrapped around shiso leaf and julienned cucumber topped with fine diced red onion drizzled with yaki saba sauce and scallion infused olive oil
A nice, hip, fun, small place. Great people working there. I've been twice. There are so many great choices on the menu - I thought this the first time, and this time: I would like to go there every week so that I could walk myself through the menu.
DON‘T MAKE OR TAKE A LATE BOOKING! We visited Yama twice on our ski holiday. The first visit we had a late 930 booking. It was fine. We were served well and ate well. The restaurant was busy.
Our second visit was an 830 booking. From the minute we sat down we were harassed at least 10 times by a female server who seemed more interested in joining her friends at a local bar than serving us. We wanted the same experience we had a week before where we slowly worked our way through the menu. We were harassed into ordering all we wanted in one go and felt like we were being hurried. She tried to take one dish away which we had not even finished.
We paid the SAME premium prices as the people on a 630 booking did. But they got 2 hours to enjoy the culinary journey.
We experienced the same issue 2 years ago. We won’t be back.
By way of credibility 1. We complained to a different server who AGREED we had had a poor experience and said she was embarrassed to say it happens a lot! And 2. Our Uber driver asked about our evening and after we told our tale of woe she too said she had heard the same thing about Yama many times.
Yama if you and your staff want to close early for whatever reason don’t take late bookings. And don't take my hard earned money. Never again! Vail has better to offer.
It was very delicious and locales night on Monday
Been to A LOT better sushi restaurants, especially for the price. Service and drinks were food!
Best sushi in vail
We’ll be back!
Had a top notch experience with Zayne. Meal was worth the $420 we paid. The. when we are finishing our wine, a blonde woman working the hostess stand comes up to tell us we have to finish our drinks at the bar to free up the table. Rude for a high dollar establishment. Then she comes back over to say she reconsidered because there’s actually no one waiting. So? Without anyone waiting she came up to a table who just paid a large bill to tell them to scram. This girl needs to learn some manners.
Amazing as always
Awesome restaurant. Best sushi in Vail.
An outstanding restaurant. The food was excellent and the staff were phenomenal. Highly recommend.
Best value in Vail. amazing food ambience, and service
Wonderful discovery in Vail. Haven’t been to s better sushi place in NYC
Birthday and in from Miami
Service was great and they remembered the birthday
Always amazing Sushi!! The service is on point and you can’t beat the atmosphere. Always a must when I’m in Vail.
Small, modern restaurant run by young, energetic staff. Sushi was absolutely delicious, fresh and well prepared. Service was quick and efficient, servers very friendly. A good choice if you want something different than alpine or American fare while in Vail.
Love Yama! Our favorite local spot for Sushi. The staff is AWESOME and so is the food.
Superb. Beats Nobu. Seriously delicious. Service is excellent
The fish quality is good. The green salad was delicious. We were the only patrons in the restaurant due to it being super bowl Sunday. My husband’s water glass was etched from age likely. He thought it was dirty. He mentioned it to our server who could have just brought a new glass seeing as we were the ONLY patrons but she said it was just etched not dirty. Fine. Like I said. The food was good, the service was good. I would go back but I wouldn’t write home about it.
Excellent specials and everything tasted great. We will head back to yama sushi next time we're in Vail.
Yama was recommended by several friends. We went for the first time this week and it was excellent. Great wait staff and wonderful food. The menu was very good with several unique choices. We look forward to returning.
Zane was an amazing server and food was delicious!!
Food in service first rate. Room could use an update, and prices are high but worth it for the quality. Besides, you’re at a resort. They accommodated a special request and all recommendations were on point.
Really loved this place. The sushi is far better than you would expect for a place so far from an ocean. :-)
We are big sushi fans and went to Yama as our favorite Matsuhisa was fully booked. The restaurant is tiny, the ambiance is very casual and comfortable. The food was generally delicious. We loved everything but one roll, which we gently told the waitress my teenage daughter did not like as the sauce was way too sweet. Instead of offering to get her something else, she just said "that's eel sauce," which it was not (we had a side of eel sauce to compare it to) and walked away. It came up again when she asked if we wanted a box for the uneaten roll and we said no, that is the roll that is simply too sweet to eat. Without another word, she took it away and gave us the bill, which included the uneaten roll. Everything else was quite good, so we would return, but hope to have a different waitress.
Fabulous food and service
The crab claws are delicious.
absolutely delicious sushi, great service, no complaints!
Always delivers. Will continue to come back again and again.
Excellent food and service. Great martini too
We love Yama. The food and service are always great! The only complaint is that the tables are so close and the restaurant is so small but we will continue to come back.
Great place for sushi. Fresh, variety, and will be back
Sushi was amazing!
Great service and outstanding food.
Once again we had a great night at Yama, we go at least once every time we are in Vail. We were seated at the bar and got great service from the entire staff. All the ladies wee pitching in and helping each other like a real team. It was quite impressive - they seemed to instinctively know what needed to be done next or where we were at with our meal and what we might need. I may skip or wine/cheese party tonight and go back....at least to get the Colorado Bass which I never find anywhere else.
Small, quaint restaurant with good food. It took awhile for the food to come out but other than that was a nice visit and would go back.
Really innovative menu and high quality ingredients. Friendly, helpful staff and great ambiance.
Yama is one of several sushi restaurants in Vail. The others are very hard to get into. That tells you something. Last minute, in the summer or winter season, it seems to be the only one with availability. Anyway, Yama is right in the middle of Vail Village. It is a small restaurant. It is dark but has a wall that flashes light with the background music. My wife made me switch seats with her because she thought it might cause a migraine. Annoying. It was filled with loud children. The only thing that saved it was the food quality and presentation, which was quite good, almost good enough for us old farts to try it again.
Everything was delicious, service was super fast
Good service but very rushed. Server was wanting our order within 2-3 minutes of giving us the menus.
This was honestly the worst sushi we have ever had. Very bland and just not very good. A complete waste of $150 and super disappointing.
