What a find! Had no idea the restaurant was here. Such gracious staff, food presentation was photo worthy and then delicious!! Unlike in many restaurants, I felt relaxed enjoying my food without constant "how is your food" overkill. Our waitress was available, but gave us time. I will be back...with more friends!
We love the sushi and the ahi tower is incredible. It would be nice if the bar menu was more versatile- great sake options but wine and other spirits are lacking.
We come here once a week. Sometimes we catch the happy hour which offers good selection of items. Fish is fresh and we tried the top half of their ala cart sashimi, all good. Service is good for the most part, sometimes can be slower but if you come with no rush attitude, you will love it!
I was on a business trip here in Portland and found this gem of a sushi restaurant. The food and presentation is wonderful, the service is impeccable. Definitely a must!
We always enjoy eating there. It's our celebratory place to go!!
Yama continues to have some of the best sushi in Portland. Always great service. Our favorite PDX Izakaya
Awesome. Everything was delicious. Tried the Salmon Skin roll for the first time. Best in town.
Delicious! The waiter was so nice and the rest of the staff too. The food was amazing. Great presentation and very accommodating for my gluten free diet. Highly recommend this place!
Terrible food! I sent back several items. Low quality! I can't believe people like this place. Perhaps they have never had amazing sushi or been to a great izakaya. Very disappointing!!!
Yama is hands down the best sushi and Izakaya in Portland Oregon. Fresh fish, innovative combinations and tasty ramen.
Definitely worth it to make reservations. We got seated immediately and we were not pressured to eat quickly and leave. The food was excellent, fresh and as described. And a great value compared to other sushi restaurants in the PDX area.
Amazing ramen and excellent sushi.
The quality of the fish was fantastic.
Yama was perfect. I was hoping to have a larger size party come and celebrate. But I also wanted good sushi and sake. The solution? Yama. I made a reservation for 12 and it was all set up when I arrived. It was also happy hour and they were so gracious to accommodate! They let us stay until 8 even bringing out an ice cream birthday treat free of charge! AWESOME. And even though I may have had a few more than planned (19 in the end) they were gracious enough to bring waters and chopsticks. THANK YOU YAMA. YOU are THE BEST. Would definitely return.
Each plate was very small for the price. Not the best value. Presentation was nice as was service. Wouldn’t go back. Very loud and overpriced for what you receive.
As always, Yama Sushi was excellent. One place my family is always willing to go. When we came in, there were two or three families waiting and a woman was trying to tell the hostess that she'd made a reservation by phone "about an hour ago." The hostess had no record of such a reservation and the woman left with her group, after being told that the wait was about an hour. As we were being seated, I said, "I guess that woman didn't use OpenTable!"
We go to Yama on many special occasions, and the food is always fantastic! However, every once in a blue moon we get a server that is a bit "off" the mark. I do not like waiters who constantly ask how everything is 'tasting', I do not like to have to ask for individual plates on which to partake of a group dish, I do like having to ask for water....and I especially do not like for the waiter to forget dishes ordered for our table! Yup, big celebration at Yama the other night and we got the really snotty waiter who did not do his owners proud. But as ever, the quality of the food rose above this smear, and was scrummy!
Yama Sushi is one of my top two Sushi places! The prices are decent and the rolls are so delicious! The service has been great everytime we've gone.
Great sushi. Great staff. Great neighborhood spot!
One of my favorite sushi places in Portland.
The food was great. Really enjoyed the oysters and tuna sampler. Everything was fantastic and we will be back.
Everything was really good! Food was great! I love the Ramen there. The only thing is that wasn’t
Went for happy hour and had great service from the male waiter. He suggested his favorites which were spot on. Halfway through the meal, more waitstaff showed up and our new female waiter was not very attentive as we had to ask hostess for our waiter a couple of times. She acted confused when we wanted to order more food and had no personality.
Fun spot for a birthday dinner! Great food and service and the sushi is fresh and high quality!!!
Good tast and services!
Great service and food, as always. Sushi is authentic and satisfied our Japanese exchange student. This was his restaurant choice of Portland!
Vest sushi in portland! Too bad they were our of the ahumai and gyoza but everything else that we ordered made up for it!
Everything was really good! The service was quick and the food came out quick!! Love the atmosphere at Yama!
Amazing food and service! If I had to be picky I'd like the place to be a bit more spacious, but it's in down town Portland so that's pretty understandable and it didn't really interfere with my overall experience. Definitely looking forward to my next visit!
Excellent service. Incredible food. Highly recommend it. (Especially the popcorn scallops.)
We come here often as it’s close to our home (walkable), kid friendly and delicious. I recommend everything on the menu except the Flaming Jack. It was the first time I‘ve been disappointed. Weak wine pours so I recommend buying the bottle for a much better value.
We got reservations, so there was no wait. The servers were polite and helpful, the space was clean and tastefully decorated, and the food was plentiful and tasty. The only negative comment my husband had is that the salmon lacked a little in flavor. Overall it was a very pleasant experience.
The food was phenomenal, and our server was very kind, quick, and helpful. The whole staff in general was great.
As always, the food is great. Beautiful presentation and the taste is perfect. Sushi comfort food, but up to date. Service very responsive, without being annoying or pushy. Not our first visit and it won't be our last.
We come here all of the time. Love the sushi, atmosphere, and the service.
This time the food was delicious, as always, but I would say we were less than impressed by the upstairs scene. We felt like we were placed in a small area of the restaurant where no one else ate.
I would recommend revamping the upstairs.
Also, it was a reminder for us to make a request as we make the reservation not to be placed there.
My favorite uruguay spo
Great food, excellent service. Our waiter was terrific.
It was a fantastic experience. Lots of food for the price, really fantastic food. The broth in the ramen was phenomenal. I even got my baby boomer dad to try and love some stuff he wouldn't normally, like the takoyaki with the Bonito flakes. The beautiful presentation certainly helped with that. Would love to go again and will tell others about it. I already have someone planning on taking her sons there soon.
Absolutely love this place. One of my favorite sushi restaurants in the city. The food is always amazing. Service is good. The ambience is delightful.
The original ramen with chashu pork was to die for.
