XOC Tequila Grill Ratings and Reviews
Dined here for the first time. The patio is great and food good, but my food did not come as ordered. Things happen, I get it, but it's the recovery that counts. My plate was removed, my husband was almost on his last bite when the manager came and apologized and advised they were working on my plate and removed the cost from our bill. Ok, great, but it was probably another 20 min before I got my food. Again, food was good, but we might as well eaten at different tables because we sure didn't eat together.
The food was a 5 out of 10 based on the two dishes and the appetizer that we got. The fajitas were spiced great, but there were too few beans for the amount of rice given. The tortillas were clearly store bought, and chemical lased. They were getting hard by the end of the meal.
Chili rellenos are always a tough thing to cook, and unfortunately they failed miserably at making them. The outer egg fluff was way too thin and chewy. They sauce was unremarkable, and my date asked for them to be mild, but they left in all the seeds and it was burning hot with spice.
The service was poor, but was probably due to a new waiter with little experience. We ordered a starter of guacamole, and they did not bring out any chips. Our food came to the table before the chips did, and whats worse, the chips were asked for about 5 times from three different waiters, with no explanation.
I had been here before, and the bartenders really know how to make their drinks. Plus the atmosphere is very nice, but a bit loud if you are trying to hear your date speak over the music.
The food was good. Our server was fantastic, very attentive and right on the ball. The hostess however was not the brightest shining star. It’s good for large groups but keep in mind that if you want a place to talk it is very loud inside the restaurant. My husband and I were very surprised about the food. It was very tasty, which to be honest, we were kind of expecting it to be just so-so. Since we were a large party (6.5 total) I wanted something that would accommodate everyone’s dietary needs and also something new (for us). One HUGE PLUS for me, as my husband was a restaurant manager, is that they brought the kids food super fast. Again, our server was right on the ball which I really appreciated as I had a hangry 1.5 year old. As my husband says, it shows that the manager trained his/her staff well. The only downer was the hostess. I don’t want to go into too much detail, but the kicker was when she walked up to our party and said two adults and 4 kids right? (with 4 kids menus in her hand) and there were clearly 4 adults in our party of 6. She also did not check us in with Open Table, because at 8:30 pm I received and email saying we missed our reservation. I don’t want to be rude or also belittle my sex, but if you are going to hire someone pretty to be the face of your establishment - I would also make sure they have some intelligence. Other than that, I would go back but have a reservation if you are going to be group larger than 4 people as this is a family friendly establishment and it gets pretty busy.
My first time to XOC. We really enjoyed it. Service was great. Food was great. Sat on the patio and enjoyed the people watching. We enjoyed everything about it. If you like mexican food with a healthier twist, XOC is an excellent choice. Will definitely be back.
This place never fails to deliver when he comes to service! The servers are Pleasant, well-informed, and always willing to go the extra step to make you happy. Pablo, a tenured service at XOC, and Daniel, a great new addition to the staff, made my last visit memorable. Michael, one of the owners, is engaged and has a very pleasant disposition. I highly recommend this local gem!
Our service was not that great. We waited what seemed like forever for our waitress to come and greet us even though she was in the area for quite sometime. I was surprised to find out that she was actually our waitress because she had ignored us for so long. Our strawberry margaritas were lacking flavor however the steak and chicken taco dishes we ordered were good and flavorful. The outdoor seating area was really nice. I liked the food, however it would take a lot to get me back there because it was quite expensive with small portions.
We were really disappointed dining here. The food was very bland with a TON of salt and there was really nothing special to it that separated it from the local
Chili's. My sangria was undrinkable - it was very heavy on the Malibu to the point that I felt I was swallowing a fragrance.
Our waiter seemed rushed and crazed. He tried to take our card without bringing us the bill and then told
Us to have a good night without taking our form of payment once he did bring it.
The biggest problem was the temperature. In the middle
Of this heat wave it was the same temperature inside as it was outside. I was drenched in sweat by the end of my meal and feeling sick.
Overall we won't be coming back.
Frustrated with hostess. We waited behind a couple and she asks them inside or outside. They picked outside, they sat them immediately. We check in next and she sees our open table reservation. Says we have to wait for outside sitting 15 to 20 min. (We specified we wanted outdoor sitting in our reservation.) We had reserved through the app, but she could have cared less. We waited 15 min, as did everyone walking in. :(
*service at the table was great!! :)
We have been fans of this place, and are huge fans of Mexican food in general. But it feels like XOC has declined from the previous times we've gone there. Our drinks came a good 20+ minutes after we ordered them and were not good. My wife sent hers back, and while I didn't send mine back, it was bad. I told the waiter we should not have to pay for the drinks, and while he agreed his manager tried to refund us only one drink and offer us free desert. When I'm having a bad meal I'm not really in the mood to negotiate. They wound up doing the right thing and refunding our drinks. The food was meh. There are so many dining options at the Village; I'll be surprised if this place is here 6 months from now.
They have really good food here. The portions are good as well. The price is decent too! It seems like the last three times we've eaten here we've had the worst service ever. Our waiter on Friday was downright arrogant and inattentive. Unfortunately, for me, three strikes and you're out.
If you have not tried the MOLCAJETE XOC.... you have not had their best dish. Margaritas are delish and the green salsa is amazing. This time service wasn't as great but I think they might have been short staffed since they forgot items we had ordered but they took off the bill. Will be going back for Happy Hour soon or the mimosa brunch.
Although the service was very good, the marguriatas were tasty but no buzz and the food serving were a bit on the small side. It's way too noisy and crowded for our taste so don't plan to go again. Not the fault of the restuarant - we just like smaller more intimate venues with great Mexican food and drinks and this just didn't hit the mark for us.
This is not your "typical" Mexican "chain" restaurants. It has unusual authentic choices. Portions were big and filling, so we split the dishes. The chips are fresh and really good. The "salsas" were not your chunky, tomato and onion type. There was a red smooth salsa and a green salsa. We especially liked the green one. I ordered the Chicken Milanese, pounded breast and lightly breaded, covered with a sauce and cheese. It came with rice and plantains (fried bananas) which were excellent. I split this dish with my friend, and it was enough for both of us. The other dish, Molcajete XOC, was split between two people also. It had steak, sausage, chicken, cilantro, cheese, avocado, and other wonderful things in a heavy round lava-looking bowl. It had a broth in the bottom of the bowl, and the "meats" hanging over the sides of the bowl. It comes with a side of beans, rice and tortillas. This is one of their specialties. You can add shrimp for a little extra if you want. I like sitting on the patio, as it is easier to hear, but the ambiance is nice inside too. Service was great. Waitress was attentive and finished dishes were picked up quickly. The manager even went around checking on people. They definitely have their act together.
We sat down, took 5 minutes before we got a waiter. Carlos was nice and attentive. What was odd was that we got chips and salsa but had no small plates in front of us, so as we were eating the chips, the salsa would drip on the menu we were looking at to order appetizer and dinner.
We ordered two appetizers, yet we still didnt have plates in front of us. Finally I asked a boss boy to bring us plates, and he did. Carlos took our dinner order, and we told him that we will sharing it. We didnt get an extra dinner plate either.
The drinks were good, but water not initillay served unless we asked.
I will admit, I wasn't expecting much. I'm not a huge Mexican food fan in the first place, but made the reservations for my date who is. I was beyond pleasantly surprised. I ordered a Coconut Mojito (with Tito's Vodka instead of rum, so a Faux-jito) and it was literally the best mojito I've ever had. Perfectly made and the flavors were immaculately balanced. For dinner, I ordered the Hamachi and Avocado Ceviche......oh my God, Heaven! Super fresh and creamy and tangy! I don't know if this is the best thing on the menu, but I'd certainly bet on it. My date ordered the Carnitas Enchiladas with the Verde Sauce and it was spectacular. Not a huge Enchiladas fan, but the flavors were amazing. For the price and flavors, you cannot go wrong here. Highly recommended!
Despite arriving 5 minutes early for our reservation and there being plenty of seats open, we were seated 10 minutes after the reservation (standing around for 15 minutes). The wait staff was extremely slow to take orders. That left a bad taste in my mouth. Consequently, I found the food edible but not worth the price. The decor was also ridiculously tacky. Other tables, I could over hear, around us had the same experience. Stay away.
