The tables were too big for a big group, it was hard to talk among each other due to a large distance across the table.
Service was very nice and polite, but extremely slow. We waited a long time for our food which made it definitely not as enjoyable as it could have been.
Food was great, atmosphere very nice.
Lovely little gem with wonderful food, great service and fabulous mojitos!
They did not read comments on note section, advising of the celebration of my son's girlfriend's birthday. Sadly, they didn't say a thing. One had the Dine LA menu. The food was good, but the dessert sorbet was too sour. They both love this restaurant because of the attentive service and great ambiance.
Food price was spot on and was very delicious. I was served a 3-course lunch. The sweet potato roll was very good along with the flank steak dinner. I sampled my spouse's tortilla soup which was very good. It should have a drop of sour cream. Coconut and pineapple dessert was excellent. I wasn't too crazy about the Tiger Prawns. The Mint-aide was very refreshing. I'm looking forward into going back to try new things.
Food was very good, however, practically all of the "nuevo latino" items on the menu are gone and the choices have become very slim. If you're going to go for the latin food, find a different restaurant. If you're just going for good food, Xiomara is fine.
I loved the food, i loved the service. I mean everything about this place is amazing. The only deduction i would say that it was a bit hard, at one point, understanding our waiter because of his accent.
Great alto Cubano food and terrific mojitos in a pleasant and quiet setting.
excellent service with flavors that filled your senses.
Xiomara was a doll!
The chocolate bread pudding was to die for.
Make sure to have the Mojito!
Had out of town guests. They thought the mojitos were the best they had ever had, anywhere, including South Beach. The food was superb, new and different tastes. The service, including the valet, was stops. Two negatives, though, that have nothing to do with any of that. First of all, it was a Friday night and in the whole two floor restaurant, there were only the three of us, another table with a couple on a date, and three people at the bar (one couple, one single). Second, to add to the empty feel of the place, the TV was loud and showing a baseball game. At least, the Dodgers won. My guess is the Pasadena location is doing more business but, again, we really couldn't fathom why such gourmet and inventive food doesn't draw a crowd.
Consistently excellent and unique food, with friendly staff
This place was good. My dinner was very good but my husband said his was just so-so. We were kind of wanting a more lively place though. I had thought it was going to be a louder more energetic place it is was very quiet. So if you are looking for a quiet romantic place then this would be good. The mussles were wonderful - best I have ever had. Service was a little slow.
This jaded New Yorker found an outstanding Cuban restaurant to please her bored-in-LA palate!
Every dish we ordered was exceptional, from the ropas and wontons, to the risotto, sea bass, rack of lamb (not on the menu) and finally the chocolate souffle.
Hopefully Angelinos will not swarm to this well-kept secret.
I shall return!
Really enjoyed our meal. Service was great. Mojitos outstanding; Ceviche divine. Sea bass superb. Valet attentive and very polite. All around a very pleasant evening.
I love this restaurant. It's a gem. Lovely atmosphere, excellent food and service. More people need to know about Xiomara and support it. If you've never been there, GO! You will not be disappointed.
Outstanding Mojitos, great bread, complimentary appetizer a nice touch. The small plates, or appetizers are probably the best. The skirt steak very tough but the pork hash was excellent.
I pick a new location each week to go to dinner with a friend. This spot unfortunately wasn't our favorite however that's purely based on the entrée we chose which was the meat platter, it lacked character and anything memorable. The bread basket, soup and drinks were fabulous and our waiter was pleasant and very easy on the eyes. I definitely won't be returning to dine here unless it's to go back and get the hot waiter's phone number.
Excellent Mojitos, very good service, nice ambiance, but the food is only fair.
Great and inventive food combined with excellent service.
My girlfriend and I were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed this restaurant. The service was flawless, the food lived up to all expectations, and they honestly had one of the best bread baskets ever! It's a great place for a date-night dinner, and how lucky were we that they also had the Laker game on! This has definitely become one of our neighborhood "go-to" nice dinner places.
We were dissapointed to find out that they were out of the dish that we really wanted (Spicy Lamb)on what appeared to be a slow night for the restaurant. The Ceviche was ok at best, the Chupe was excellent, and the swordfish fish was overcooked.
This was our first experience at Xiomara on Melrose---a neighborhood restaurant for us. Everything was terrific, and if only the prices were a little less, we could go on a more regular basis.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Xiomara. The ambiance was superb, the service was exceptional, and it was quiet and romantic (we got there early so very few people in restaurant). The food was great, good value and perfect portion sizes. It was easy to Reminisce about being back in Europe, which is how it felt to me. I would highly recommend this resaurant.
Wait staff inattentive. I spilled water glass on the table and had to ask three times for it to be cleaned up. Also had to ask at least 3 times for new napkins since the original ones were soaking wet.
When the waiter brought our food he mixed up the dishes between us and despite my asking for the Ceasar Salad WITHOUT the croûtons the dish came with croutons!
The waiters responses were always mumbled and unclear.
There was only another table occupied and another persons eating at the bar. So the staff was NOT busy at all!
The food was good and delicious tasting. The Mojito's excellent and the ambience was lovely. The service was not what you would expect from an nice restaurant such as this. Our waiter 3/20/2010 was abrupt, did not tell us specials without us asking, did not mention their lovely chocolate dessert that you need to ask for ahead of time if you want it cooked in time and seemed to barely want to be there. I guess people have "off" nights but I expected more and it would put me off going again. But as I said food was great.
The food was excellent from start to finish! Everything we had was full of flavor! Great, unique dishes like duck ropa appetizer, great nicaraguan steak dish, excellent seafood paella. Their signature Xiomara mojito tastes very fresh and refreshing! The waitstaff was very attentive and helpful with deciding on great menu items vs. the great specials. Souffle must be ordered in advance, but melt-in-your-mouth good. Make sure you have room in your belly if you are a chocolate lover! We sat upstairs which has a warm, romantic vibe. The music is upbeat but not too loud and counterbalances the noise level from downstairs. Overall a wonderful night out!
Absolutely the most beautiful green limeade ever tasted.
Menu selections were diverse, exotic, beautifully presented and tastes were excellent.
Walk out of Hollywood and into Havana (or what I imagine a happening restaurant there would look like). Inventive and delicious food. The Crab Cake appetizer was yummy as was the ginger squash soup. The Paella was outstanding although a bit pricey at $37 compared to the rest of the menu which was very reasonable given the quality. Everyone talked about the "incredible" mojitos...we had never had one so we aren't the best judge...but there are much better things to rave about here. Also a great place to have dinner at the bar.
My experience st Xiomara can only be described as surreal. We were there a total of one hour and twenty minutes, and left because we couldn't wait any longer for our food because we had tickets to see a show. It was a disaster and a huge disappointment, as I had made a reservation in advance for my Boyfriend's birthday (my treat) and I was very embarassed. There was only one other occupied table, so i don't know what the problem was, nor how they can stay open with that degree of inefficiency. I felt bad for the waiter and bad for ourselves. Unbelievable.
Xiomara transports guests to Cuba before the revolution. The food is always fresh, varied, and delicious. The service is consistently professional. The waiters aren't seeking careers in acting. It's the best kept secret in Los Angrles.
This restaurant was wonderful. My only disappointment was with the valet---nowhere in sight and I had to park three blocks away. Ordinarily, not a problem but as a single woman, I would much rather have valeted than to have had to walk alone at night in Hollywood.
While this restaurant has a very pleasant, intimate ambiance, it is depressing as it's been almost empty each of the two times I've been there. Our server, while pleasant, was not very knowledgeable. The food could be called slightly above average. It's disappointing as the former Pasadena location was lively with much better food.
Overall, my wife and I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The only suggestion is regarding your service. I attempted to make reservations for later (6:00, 6:30 & 7:00) but, was prompted to an earlier time (5:30). When we arrived, there was only another couple at the restaurant. An hour and a half later (when we left) there three other couples. The restaurant was half empty. Please make improvements in this area.
The service was slow, by the time the main dish came I was no longer hungry. It was a big pricey as I found the food was only fair.
As always, consistently excellent.
Food was excellent. However, the service was very disappointing and it wasn't even a busy Friday night for a Valentine's weekend!
Decided to take my mom and aunt here for a friday night dinner. it was raining that day. when i first arrived i decided to park valet and the valet guys were very courteous and even pulled out the umbrellas for both my aunt and mom. We decided to go with the pollo cubano con arroz. and wow, they loved it, along with the house mojito and the chocolate souflette. thank you again, you guys have the best food in town. and very courteous waiters. would definetely go back
My new favorite restaurant! The food was amazing, the service was wondeful! It was the perfect date night with my husband. We can't wait to go back!
One of the best little hidden gems in Los Angeles! It's never crowded, the food is always superb, and the service impeccable. Would highly recommend to anyone. Best Mojitos is town hands down!
This restaurant had the best complimentary bread I have ever had in my life, and every one of my friends agreed.
This was by far one of the worst dining experiences i've ever had! Mediocre food and terrible service! Do no go here!
