Wonderful dinner! My favorite item on the menu was the prawns! I’d go back just for those! The chicken was also great, as were the green beans. I’m not sure we ordered the best dumplings, maybe there was a better option. We overheard the waitress say “that’s what we are known for” but we’re not sure if it was the soup or dumplings. If you’re a first timer I’d ask for guidance. I have a feeling we missed a few great items. We’ll go back!

I took my girlfriend for her birthday dinner, and I must say, we will MOST DEFINITELY make this a stop every time we come through Austin. Everything was absolutely delicious and amazing. The dumplings are definitely their specialty and the wontons are in a mushroom and chili oil stock and it is TOO DIE FOR. The entrees need no bragging, they’ll blow your mind on their own. Definitely recommend the twice cooked pork belly. 15/5 stars!

Such delicious food. And our server Maggie alerted us to vegan/veggie options that weren’t apparent on the menu. Ate our leftovers next day and couldn’t be happier.

Food was spot on. Spendy - but we know this and food was so fresh. Service is always kind, and friendly. They know the menu and dishes well and always share their thoughts when asked. We sat outside, which got to be a little warm in the sun until it went behind a building.

Love when we get the chance to enjoy Wu Chow! The service is always amazing and the food always exceptionally delicious! Every employee we encountered was so friendly and helpful. And whoever is responsible for the music playlist- yaaaassss!!! We felt comfortable dining on the patio, as they have done a great job of implementing new protocols for Covid/social distancing. Can’t wait to go back!

If you like Sichuan cuisine or enjoy spicy food, this place is a must-try! I had the spicy wontons which was definitely spicy but in a warm delicious sense and not a burn your tongue way. I also had the Sichuan fried chicken which had a bit of sweetness and was perfectly crunchy — definitely order this! And last, I had the bird’s nest which is almost indescribable. The taro “nest” was crisp and not greasy, the seafood swimming in a delicious sauce. For drinks, I ordered a nian nunb to temper all the spicy food I was eating. It was tasty and refreshing!

We went to wu chow last May for mothers day and it was one of the best meals I had ever had. I couldn't stop thinking about their food. My husband and I FINALLY got away for a date night after having a newborn and were really disappointed. Our entree came out before our appetizer. My cocktail tasted like water. The gulf prawns were DOUSED in mayonnaise. Coming from someone who eats mayo... i couldn’t finish these. My husband and i will never go back to WU CHOW.

Have been wanting to eat here "pre pandemic" ... upon arriving, we sat inside due to the cold snap that came through, social distancing was being practiced, so no worries there ...

Pros:
the Shanghai Soup Dumplings are the best thing on the menu

Cons:
tried the CHOW CHICKA BOW WOW (not worth $15)

missed on our order 3 times
1) ordered Two-Faced Crispy Noodles, Seafood (not worth $26) ...
-> brought us Beef & Chicken (which we were fine with and ate, told to cancel the seafood

2) ordered Wok-Tossed Texas Okra ...
-> waited, asked about it, waited, asked again, waited, only to be told when they brought the bill that they were sold out of it ... what?

3) after we asked to have the Two-Faced Crispy Noodles Seafood cancelled due to bringing the wrong dish out ...
-> they still brought it to the table, we asked again to correct it and was told that it was already being made, so enjoy ... okay, thinking Wu Chow was being customer 1st with service (not the case)
*they charged us for it, we thought that it was being offered to us at no charge, not the case and totally misunderstood the comment "enjoy" ...

When we asked for rice with the meal, the waitress was, "oh you want another one ..."
-> we never got the 1st one, what?

In the mix of this, we started with one waiter and asked the waitress to let him know we were ready to order, she said, "oh, I can take it ..."
So then we switched and that is where the downward spiral began ...

Net, net ... would be hesitant to recommend as a "must go" in Austin.
I get that we may have caught them on an "off" day, however, for $168 for four people, there are other Asian restaurants that would be half the cost and better main dishes and service.

I still tipped 20%, as I get it, I used to wait tables back in the day.

Your mileage may vary.

We went to Wu Chow on Sunday to enjoy some Dim Sum. We requested a table outside. Once taken to our table it was directly in the sunlight and wayyyyy to hot. We thought maybe we were being dramatic, but we couldnt even touch the table because it was soooo hot. We requested a table in the shade which they accommodated as quickly as possible. However, we saw several tables after us leave because of the heat. This could all be resolved with some simple umbrellas! Come on Wu Chow, this cant be news to you! I literally watched 10 people leave because of this.
Other than that, the food was incredible, our server was so nice and professional and it felt like a safe environment to eat at during covid.

Made reservations yesterday for Dimsum and placed us out in a table under the sun in 99 degree weather. Needless to say, it was unbearable to even enjoy a meal and had to leave. To compensate, they give you free paper fans for folks sitting under the hot sun. Terrible table management.

An explosion of flavor from the cocktails to the dumplings to the entrees. This is THE place in Austin to go for gourmet Chinese cuisine. I downgrade the ambiance because it is stereotypical "hipster" noisy - go early to avoid the crowds and excess noise.

Soup dumplings were a little undercooked.
