WP Kitchen + Bar - Palm Desert - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Went for Restaurant Week and we were very pleased with the offerings . The chopped salad was filled with crunchy veggies, the burger perfectly cooked and the caramel dessert silky smooth and tasty.
A couple of slight flaws: we had to request the Restaurant Week menu, ask for refills on water, and the waiter was uninformed about the wines.
That said, I definitely look forward to returning.
I have never been disappointed at a Wolfgang Puck restaurant, and this was no exception. I loved the thin crust roasted mushroom pizza. The pear martini was so good that I had two! (I never have two cocktails) great desserts: salted caramel pudding and the fresh peach tart. Service was excellent. Many seating options to keep it fun, and liked the modern rustic decor.
We went for my sons last night before moving to Madison, we were seated... Got drinks, great service, but once our waiter got to us we were told they were out of salmon (my son wanted) steak frites ( other son wanted) meatballs (appetizer son wanted) turkey burgers. So we ordered what they had left. No comps. $160.00 for a party of three for food we didn't want to order
Not special.Good. Younger son had turkey bolognese. We wanted to leave and go elsewhere but were stuck.Waiter was great though. Not his fault.(My son is a chef and said in his kitchen they would have sent someone to Whole Foods to get supplies)
I can't believe Wolfgang Puck put his name on this place. It was so bad I had the Chop Salad with no lettuce and mostly hard to chew raw carrot and cauliflower. Also waiter did not know what oil and vinegar was so he brought me straight oil twice when I asked for vinegar to go with oil . All millennials there and they need an older person to show them good manners.
My husband had the turkey burger and it was excellent so I guess you could say it's a good burger joint at big prices.
GREAT dining experience on Mother's Day. We've eaten at WP's several times before and have always been happy with the food and the service. This Mother's Day lunch was no exception - service was fantastic and food was delicious. Would definitely recommend giving it a try!
We went for Mother's Day. Service was amazing on all levels. Food was great as well. Only down side was that we took my 80 year old parents and the awesomeness was lost on them. They didn't understand the clean, simple menu or the concept of California cuisine. We've been there many times and love it. Now we know not everyone appreciates the vibe, even tho we do. Still had a great time and ate the leftovers for breakfast. Yum!
We came here for our anniversary on Saturday Night. We love this restaurant as it is modern and classy. The menu isn't huge but what is on the menu is really good. WP Kitchen has a Cucumber Gimlet that is so good! Nice beer and wine selection as well as crafted cocktails. We had the calamari for a starter. Then we ordered the meat pizza and a caesar salad. Everything was really good. Salted caramel pudding for dessert! Robert our server was outstanding. Really great service and pleasant experience.
Sadly, this restaurant was a huge disappointment...how has it remained open as long as it has. The food was flavorless. The only positive I can state is that our waiter was extremely courteous, professional and polite. My friend ordered the salad and it contained more celery than anything else. I ordered the trout and it was bland. With Wolfgang Puck's name on this restaurant, I expected exceptional flavors and sauces...Another gal ordered the calamari and it was average at best compared to other desert restaurants such as Pacifica and Stuffed Pizza. The 4th diner ordered an Italian dish...her critique...nothing special. There were no rolls; not even salt and pepper on the table. My preseco was just ok; cabarnet ordered average; I believe a gum drop martini - it was red - was ordered and it was found to be tasty. The 4th diner ordered diet coke. Honestly, we all were completely underwhelmed and the comment made by each of us was..."been there, done that"...never again. Sorry to be so critical but dining on El Paseo is supposed to be a cut above the rest...our dinners and the experience were definitely sub par.
We chose this restaurant because we have been so pleased with the consistently delivered quality experience that Wolfgang Puck's establishments have delivered. This particular visit was not at all up to expectations. They were out of bread and blamed it on being a Sunday night. The waiter didn't say something like "Oh by the way, we're so terribly sorry but we do not have bread, not for the table and not for orders like the meatball appetizers but we would sure like to make up for it in another area". Instead, he said in a totally flat and very unapologetic mater-of-fact way, "We don't have bread tonight so the meatball appetizer doesn't have any bread and we don't have any for the tables either." Meanwhile, we're thinking why in the heck in a fairly cosmopolitain area don't they send someone from the restaurant on a bread run to the local supermarket who has VERY fresh, perfectly nice quality bread (we know, because we were there a few minutes after dinner). Who cares if it isn't the bread they usually serve? For heaven's sake, just get some decent bread on the table. Or roll some of that WP pizza dough into breadsticks. DON'T RUN OUT OF BREAD. If this is such a common Sunday problem, why doesn't Chef have backup frozen dough on hand ALWAYS????
One other unpleasant surprise: the restaurant was in Palm Springs. The menu had exactly two California chardonnays by the glass. That's not enough. One was WP's "own" label, unoaked, non-butttery; the other was an inferior brand. You're in California. Come on. People want their oak and they want their butter. If they don't, they order a Sauvignon Blanc or a Pinot Grigio. Put a Rombauer Chardonnay or a Newton Unfiltered or another medium to high-end chardonnay on the menu, by the glass.
Flavors were mostly good but not outstanding and service was fine, but again, not exceptional. We won't be back, but if you're in the area and don't want fast food, WP will suffice.
Visited WP kitchen on a Wednesday night and it was 1/2 price on a bottle of wine. 3 delicious appetizers (loved the truffle chips with blue cheese fondue) had chopped salad and apple salad, topped off with the salmon caviar pizza. What fresh tasting delicious food.
Love this place since they brought back the old menu (or similar to) after changing it to some quirky items awhile back. We shared the Calamari, Italian meat pizza, Meatballs and the the mouthwatering Oriechette. Great family style way of eating but you can easily have your own meal. WP house wines are excellent. The service is usually very good - casual and relaxed - but this time we got a guy who was very nice but was so high strung and over the top it was border line uncomfortable. That being said it won't stop us from going back. We try and go at least once a week for lunch or dinner. A great local place to spend time with friends!
