World Famous Ratings and Reviews
A really nice dinner. The menu skews more to seafood but the pasta and meat options are enough to satisfy everyone. Our server, Julianne, was FANTASTIC a great balance of professionalism and friendliness, she checked in several times to make sure all was well, more than the perfunctory "how is everything" and she was very helpful in describing and recommending dishes, all of which were delicious. The wine list is also terrific with a good selection of half bottles.
The only downside is that a family with two young children were seated next to us and one of the children was behaving badly. When the restaurant then sat another family with 2 children in a stroller next to us we were worried but fortunately they were well behaved and the parents were attentive (not so much at the other table.) Obviously it is hard for the restaurant but still it had a negative impact on our experience.
We had reservations at 9:30pm. We arrived about half hour early. We walked across the street from Catamaran Resort where we are currently staying. Since the place was not packed at all, we were able to get seated right away. After looking at the menu front and back, our waitress came by and took our order. I ordered a Russian Mule beverage. Very good balance of rum. For appetizers, we ordered the crab cakes. For the entree, I ordered the Mediterranean salmon with a lobster bisque to start. The food overall was 5/5 stars. As for the service, our waitress was attentive from the time we ordered to the time they handed our main entrees. Towards the end of our meal, she was not as attentive as I would like. My wife and I were looking at our phones towards the end until she finally came by and we asked for the check. We did not get dessert since we ordered so much food. We look forward to coming back here.
We always love coming here, but this time the food was even more exceptional! My dad and his wife were in town visiting and we couldn't stop raving about the food, atmosphere and killer views! And the waitress was really great with my 2 1/2 year old daughter.
Celebrating a birthday - food was excellent. I had the trio of shrimp, salmon, and scallops. The lobster bisque was amazing. We ate outside next to beach, so that speaks for itself! The waiter was attentive. Valet parking is very reasonable and worth avoiding the hassle of beach area parking.
No complaints at all!
We were in Pacific Beach with my company. We eat at WF 4 times, it was so good. Their lobster bisque is outstanding (not too much of a sherry taste) and the lobster tacos (lunch and bar menu) are to die for. I had fish and chips, calamari, filet and scallops and potato crusted sea bass. My wife had the trio (salmon, shrimp and scallops), prime rib and the lobster tacos for lunch. The service is a bit laid back, but you are right on the beach. With this beautiful view it doesn't matter if the service is a bit slow :-)
Ive loved World Famous for years, but something has definitely changed!!! It's gone down hill IMHO Haven't been here to dinner for a couple years.
We were Headed out to a concert so I made an early reservation for 5 o'clock. We checked in a few minutes early but it took them at least 15 mins to get us seated. I think it was a bussing issue clearing dirty tables cuz there were plenty of empty tables.
The servers were great... but the food overall a big disappointment. The beloved lobster bisque which I rave about was luke warm and thinner than in the past , however, it did have nice size pieces of lobster in the bottom. It tasted okay, tho from past experience I expected way better!
The Cesar salad wasn't what it used to be either! Very ordinary and not special at all. Needed fresher, more flavorful dressing- or maybe more of it.
The warm spinach salad was fabulous on another note! :)
The filet and lobster - steak had a sauce that I should have been warned about! Ruined the underdone very rare meat. The prime rib seemed it came from under a heat lamp. It was very ordinary and on the thinner side. The brussels that came as a side were dried out and I've had much better. ( the filet was suppose to be served with asparagus but it wasn't ) the twin lobster tails were small but nothing to complain about or rave about.
Bacon scallops were huge! My mom had them and seemed to like them.
Best part about the meal was the awesome bread and butter!!! Always a silver lining to every cloud. My cucumber spritzer was yummy too.
Not sure what happened. I felt as if I was dining at Chilies or Applebees.
Our server was nice and attentive, but not knowledgeable about cocktails, wine or food. The snapper was terrible: very small sliver of fish, overcooked and the bloodline wasn't cut out--it may have been the worst fish I've ever had. The bass was overcooked as well. We were extremely disappointed.
Our 6pm reservation was honored immediately & we were seated at an awesome table on the patio with an excellent view of the beach. The food was delicious although the prices were quite a bit higher than the ones listed on the menu shown on Open Table. Also, we were disappointed that we were not allowed to take advantage of the Happy Hour appetizer specials from our table on the patio -- our server told us those were only available when ordered in the bar.
The food that I ordered was good, but was surprisingly small-portioned (for the price). I'd expect the type of plating and portion size from a 5-star high-end restaurant downtown or in La Jolla or something, but not in Pacific Beach. PB is a casual beach town with a lot of bar/social life. The service was good and the atmosphere was fine - beach front. But, for the price and parking issues, I wouldn't recommend.
I've eaten here many times, but recently it's just been for lunch with my friend when she comes to town. She lives in Tucson, so she loves being right next to the beach! We had a great table on the patio and our server was really good, letting us take our time while we were catching up. We had a nice bottle of Chardonnay, and both of us had the Maine Lobster Salad, which was very good. I'm sure when my friend comes back to San Diego, we'll be going to World Famous for lunch again!
When ever we are in San Diego we stop by for either Bunch or Dinner. This time it was dinner. Reservations are highly recommended as the place is busy. it is on the boardwalk and a great place for Sunset dinner. Food is good, good selection of drinks and the service is very friendly.
I took my parents here for Father's Day because the restaurant offered lobster. They were very pleased with their meal but my Mother was quite annoyed with the loud noise level of the restaurant.
I was quite underwhelmed by my meal. Everything is creamed sauces and not in a good way. My salad dressing choices were Ranch, which I detest, and "balsamic cream". Which tasted like Ranch. It was so cloying I couldn't finish my salad. Only two dressing choices is inexcusable. Every restaurant has the ingredients for a simple oil and vinegar dressing and that should be offered. Two choices and both cream? Thumbs down.
I ordered the filet mignon with scampi. the filet was cooked and seasoned very well but quite small. About the size of a soda can top. The three scampi were covered in another cream sauce. I took one taste and scraped them onto an empty plate. It was disgusting. They did bring me plain scampi but not the garlic butter sauce I associate with scampi that I was so looking forward to.
Since cream was their thing I decided to order the creme brulee. It was generous but not executed very well. The filling was just this side of curdled. Not creamy. The torched sugar was also fairly generous but it didn't crack. Like it had been torched and then put back in the refrigerator. The taste was okay.
For me, the meal was not a great experience. I would label this restaurant pretentious. They would be better served to simplify their menu rather than trying for some sort of fancy gastronomy.
Valet parking is $7 and the valet was affronted I didn't give him a 40% tip. Plus he kept us waiting to pay him while he ran to get someone else's car.
All in all, we have decided not to return or to bring guests here.
Mediocre food but on the beach with a great view. And that's why I go. I've had the warm spinach salad a few times, each time it gets worse. Or is it my taste buds growing up. It's just so sweet. I don't see myself ever ordering it again. My companion had the bacon and spinach wrapped scallops. They were very good.
