WORKSHOP kitchen + culture
Monday Through Saturday - Dinner from 5:00pm
Had the tasting menu on no menu mondays. Out of the 5 dishes and 5 paired drinks I found most of the food to be subpar.
Most of the dishes totally missed the mark.
For example, Chicken liver pate as an appetizer is not a good idea.
Chinese fried rice with slices of overcooked sirloin on top was also a failure.
Presentation of these things was also not up to par. If I was the chef I would have been embarassed to serve this food to patrons.
This restaurant lives up to its reviews. The food and service are BOTH phenomenal. I am both gluten and dairy free...eating out is always a challenge for me. Workshop was up to the challenge! They are incredibly accommodating. Our waitress, Jennifer, ensured I knew about all my food options, and there were a good many. She went back to check with the kitchen to confirm they could accommodate me and my dietary needs a number of times. I felt very confident that I really was getting help, not just lip-service. The food tasted fabulous! Then, dessert arrived and they gave me a plate of sorbet. I am sure it was lovely sorbet, but if you are gluten and dairy free, sorbet is the go-to dish to get served. It gets old fast. I told Jennifer that I challenge the chef to come up with a more interesting dessert for others like me in the future. She immediately whipped the sorbet off the table and took it back, announcing she would get something better for me! She came back in a little while with a freshly baked slice of chocolate cake, topped with a gorgeous berry compote, almond brittle and meringue!!! It was, quite simply, the best meal I have eaten in years. I am ever so grateful. You are missing out if you hvae not eaten here. Go. You will be so glad you did!
We had such a great experience at The Workshop. There were 4 of us in our group and we chose to have the 5 course meal. Everything was exceptional and we were so excited to see the dinner unfold. Our waiter was Bobby and he was awesome. It was a perfect Birthday and we were so happy to have a card from the caring folks who made our night exceptional. We will be back again for certain.
Website for Workshop indicated there was a happy hour and we showed to waiter but manager would not recognize this and did not even come to the table. One lady had to pay $19 for a glass of wine - way over priced !
The food was very good, but I thought the service we received was even better.
Overall, an OK experience but, given the prices, would have expected more in terms of food quality/quantity. Have been to the Workshop Kitchen on other occasions and feel it has dropped off in standard of food and service.
Had the 3-course "surprise" dinner menu and could not be happier with the choice. I am a picky eater, so not big on surprises when it comes to food, but everything tasted delicious. The server carefully noted my friend's and my dietary restrictions and the chef modified the courses accordingly. Very happy with the result! Service was great, local draft beer (Ryes Against the Machine) definitely worth having.
This is the best restaurant in Calgary. It was a no brainer to dine at Workshop with my husband before we welcome or new baby to the world in the next week or so.
Great as usual!
Amazing dinner! We loved the surprises! Thank you!
The gnocchi Brussels sprouts and cauliflower are so inspired and delicious it is tough to save room for the entrees and dessert. My recommendation is come with friends, order one of everything and have a tasting extravaganza. The best meal in Calgary and all of North America if you ask me...
lunch was delicious
a little noisy
service was good
As always the food was fantastic. Kenny always manages to let the protein in his dishes shine while keeping the rest of the dish interesting and even exciting. Also this time we opted for a bottle of wine instead of a drink pairing. Our server was very helpful in choosing the perfect bottle.
The food was delicious, and the attitude to surprise and delight was very well received. An altogether phenomenal food experience. Would definitely suggest it for foodies and those wanting a different experience with their food.
Outstanding. We did the 5 course chef blind. It was amazing and the wine pairing perfect.
Great food and ambience, loved the surprise trio!!
The Lougheed Lunch is the best option for experiencing the full quality of the food selection, right from appetizer, to main, to desert. I really enjoyed the healthy portion sizes. The sound levels are excellent for a great business lunch discussion. I definitely will add this location to my regular meetings.
Food was top notch, quality stuff. The three course meal is the way to go.
Delicious as always, top notch food and service to match.
Too much rich food. Very heavy with not a lot of healthy options. This is only my opinion because it was packed so obviously people like that.
Excellent experience all round. Enjoyed the fixed three course meal - each course was superb, although we were barely able to touch dessert as we were already so full. Inspired menu, beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Extremely knowledgeable server who was also a pleasure to engage with. Would highly recommend and will be back. Good for any occasion. Nice vibe as well.
The special intimate details they put into making our dinner and my birthday so special was something I have never experienced before... I highly recommend and have already decided that this is where I will be bringing my favourite people and especially for important dates in the future.... And I would like to mention that one person in our party was gluten free and they went above and beyond to make sure they were not excluded. Highly recommend the tasting menu for all!!
Wonderful lunch! Everyone enjoyed - I asked the Chef to prepare me a vegan meal, their call on the ingredients, best vegan meal I’ve had in a non-vegan restaurant. In fact better than many vegetarians/vegan specific restaurants I’ve been to. Appreciate the time and care they put into preparing my meal.
Great ambiance and staff. The food presentation and selections are good
Great food and service
No Menu Monday was fantastic! Each surprise course was delicious and our server was well informed and attentive to our needs. Thanks to Workshop Kitchen for a memorable evening.
Tried the three course set menu for my mom’s birthday. Truly a disappointment. The first course was a radish salad with overly salty pork bits that I sent back. Second course I had the sirloin tip. That was very mediocre at best. My mom had the rock cod. It was tasteless and dry. We sent the rock cod back and ordered the chicken tagine which was acceptable. For dessert we shared the chocolate fondant. None of the items were memorable. I came to this restaurant last year and ordered the mussels and a molten lava chocolate cake. Those items were phenomenal. Not sure what happened this year. Perhaps the head chef is no longer there. Fully disappointed. Over priced. Will not recommend or return again.
Wow! One of the most creative and delicious restaurants I've been to in a long time.
We had the improv menu after our server recommended that this is what Workshop is known for. Although you do not have to order this way, I highly recommend it. It makes for a fun and unique dining experience. The server was able to recall every item on the plate without prompt for each of our 5 dishes, and was able to easily answer any questions, he really went above and beyond to make the experience one to remember. We will certainly be coming back!
Great food and great service!
Inch was fine
Great food. Cauliflower was excellent, as was the Taco-styled salad and rice pudding. The enchilada was a bit average, and the lettuce had some brown parts (which is odd for a restaurant), but overall I was impressed and would go back.
Excellent value Lougheed lunch with colleagues. Delicious soup and main fish course. Portions were perfect for lunch. There was no room for the brownie, so we bagged that for a treat the next day! Overall, a very lovely meal and all done in about an hour.
Excellent food and great service.
I was advised to always try the daily special - this is my second time having the seafood feature and both have been amazing. Try this place- you won't be disappointed.
This is one of my go-to spots for weekday lunch, girls night, anniversary dinner, etc. Highly recommend the Lougheed Lunch - it's a great value! Their Improv menu is a great dinner option, too - I've never been disappointed by the courses or the pairings!
Incredible service and food! Never felt rushed, very friendly! Highly recommend this place!
Best food in Calgary, hands down! Tremendous staff, servers, and the friendliest hostess ever.
Casual but fine dining. Creative use of colour, tastes and textures. The braise itself (Lougheed lunch) can carry the menu.
Great food as always. Had the Lougheed lunch and all courses were great!
Food was flavorful, carefully prepared and creatively presented. Some of the best dishes we have ever had. The excellent quality is matched with a high price.
