Great service, great food.
Cocktails were outstanding as well
Food is awesome. Usually service is excellent but this last time, it took a really long time to get served. When we finished with one dish the waitress simply took the serving utensils from that dish and placed it in a new dish. Not a classy move. This was a one off as usually the service matches the great food.
A friend and I decided to try WORKSHOP one night as we had heard some good things about the food. We opted for the 5 course tasting menu. The menu provides for an array of foods from the menu. We tried a smoked oyster, lamb, beef dish and finishing off with a unique take on grilled cheese and brûlée. The food presentation was great and the food was unique and tasty. My friend had the wine pairing with her food and she noted that the wines were ones she would never have thought of but were perfect for each dish. We left very full and satisfied. I will be back to try the other items in their menu.
Had a nice table for date night, cozy and quiet.
Food was great!
Was my first time at Workshop and had an amazing experience! They had a special table reserved for us when we arrived, as I had included in the reservation that it was for a birthday. The staff was friendly and personable from our host to our server, and the food was absolutely divine - the brussel sprouts tasted like candy. They also gave my sister a birthday card at the end signed by all the staff, which was a really cute touch. Thanks!
Had the 3 course prix fixe; my friend cannot eat pork so they graciously did a substitution. all 3 courses were fantastic, and we loved the drink pairing for $30. Great value and loved everything we had
First time at Workshop and very impressed. The space is very cool, with the open kitchen and lively atmosphere. We tried the tasting menus (both 3 and 5 course) and the food was very good. Wine pairings were spot on too, with a very eclectic selection. Only downside was that the bison in one of our courses was very tough to get through. Lots of connective tissue...couldn't finish. We did mention to our server.
I like the atmosphere and ambiance of Workshop. I have eaten here several times and always had good meals with good, friendly service.
I and a few co-workers have lunch here regularly. The meals are consistently excellent and great value for the money. My personal favorite is the $25 lunch because there is always a feature fish option (not all restaurants do this). I usually choose the fish option and I have never been disappointed. The sides that are presented with the meat or fish are always unique, fresh and flavorful. This is my absolute favorite restaurant.
Excellent experience. Nothing to complain. Staff awesome and food excellent as well. 100% recommended
Had the Lougheed Lunch special at Workshop. It's a great deal - $25 for 3 courses. All 3 courses were good! Service is quick, so we finished in less than an hour.
It's the third time I've been here for lunch and would highly recommend it.
The Workshop never disappoints, the food is always really good and isn't your typical burgers and salads. I have had a few business lunches with colleagues and we have always enjoyed our experience.
One of the best meals I've had in Calgary in a long time. So many dishes blew my mind. Service was outstanding. I can't say enough great things.
Absolutely unparalleled. Best restaurant in Calgary.
When we arrived , I loved the old theatre building and the ambiance but we were not seated well although we had reserved. We were right in front of the open kitchen which was very noisy. The restaurant was maybe half full (or less) at 7 pm. If it had been full, I would have had no problem with this but there was tons of room elsewhere. The female waiter was extremely nice and accommodating and moved us to a new table. She was great! Before she moved us, she said she had to check all her reservations but I never saw that the restaurant filled up that much the entire evening.
We then got another waiter who was not rude but he wasn't pleasant either. He needs to learn to deal with more vegetarian types as well as meat lovers. I'm sorry I don't eat lamb or pork but deal with it. Customer service means meeting the customer on their own ground not judging them for their perceived lack of foodie cred or whatever his problem was.
My partner loved the whole experience and the food (3 course dinner). To me, the appetizers were ...well cauliflower or brussel sprouts? Overall, I just felt like the waiter disliked us although he did take the time to help me choose a wine. He pushed booze relentlessly. My chicken was undercooked. Call me a philistine but the whole food description was pretentious .
I really liked the restaurant atmosphere...this is a great space. I also liked the fact that the staff looked diverse, male and female, and if female not just all skinny 25 year olds in short black dresses. But having said that, the waiter never smiled once and considering what we spent, I would not be leaping to go back. I could have had worse food but a nicer waiter (which is pretty much the James Joyce) and loved the evening. Maybe your waiter should go spend an evening in a bar like Buchannan's where they know how to make everyone feel welcomed and , dare I speak this heresy, it's not just about the food but the whole experience.
Each dish we chose was fresh, unique and memorable. We sat at the community table and met interesting people which added to this special meal. Thanks Workshop Kitchen. You rock.
We had a wonderful experience here last week, our server was knowledgeable and helped up to choose a wonderful meal along with drink pairings. The FOH / BOH staff spoke with us directly, and were extremely hospitable from beginning to end. Would highly recommend for a variety of events and celebrations!
Thank you Workshop!
One of the best in Calgary. The 5 course menu is great. Sophisticated food, well prepared, great presentation and great flavors.
One recommendation, consider enlarge the size of the gnocchi (currently offered as a size) and put in on the entrees list. Those gnocchi taste so goodT!!!
Will come back for dinner every time I visit Calgary.
This restaurant has a unique ambiance, world class service, and delicious food! When we come back we will definitely try the improv meals.
First - the restaurant is connected to a theatre with a mezzanine for hosting as well - how cool is that?!!
Second - our server, Bobby (who was excellent - btw) sold us on the chef's menu and created a parallel culinary experience for my friend who is vegetarian.
Third - each dish was excellent - I had it with the wine pairings and the choices were definitely on point. Nothing over the top - simply fresh local ingredients, craftily cooked, and paired with wines that highlighted and/or complimented the tastes.
What a great find for our business trip to Calgary! We'll be back when we're in town again and bringing more of our team!
Great food, friendly service, interesting ambiance. Had a really good time for our date!
Awesome food! Amazing time! Great service. Will visit again. Thank you!
Great lumch - the Lougheed Lunch: 3 courses for $25 plus wine for $7. The greens with toasted nuts and sliced apple was lightly, deliciously dressed; main was lightly battered fish, smokey tomato sauce, crispy potatoes , lovely green beans, potato fritter; best rich chocolaty brownie dressed with caramel sauce and fruit was the perfect finish to the perfect meal! Portion size was reasonable too. And the featured wine - delicious!
Service was attentive and friendly, not intrusive. Atmosphere was interesting - so much to observe in this historical building.
It was lovely as always. I always go for the fish feature and it never disappoints
Their "Lougheed Lunch" is very good value for money - gourmet food at reasonable prices!
Had a nice night planned with my wife for dinner and drinks. The food was ok but very expensive for the taste. Much better value modern steak, model mild or like places. The drinks were over priced and the seating was crowded. We asked for cider (gluten free) like strongbow, the waitress offered a cider off the menu which of course we thought would be similar. Never telling is the price she brings 2 champagne glasses of cider. $10 each. The bottle it was poured from is $10. Then ordered a 5oz glass of wine. Which there were 2 choice and the waitress brought a 9 oz (assuming we would just say oh that’s fine) and of course the more expensive one. Never asking us our choice.
I have no problem spending money on dinner but the value and service assumptions were bad. I will not return.
I've been wanting to check out Workshop for months - and finally got a chance to go. It did not disappoint! I had the improv menu - which was delicious. I think the highlight for me was the candied pork cheek - so good.
The chef easily made it gluten-free for me, including the rich and decadent flourless chocolate torte dessert. The decor is absolutely beautiful as well.
Would definitely go again.
We loved the restaurant it was very stylish. Hard to find parking though and a scaffolding was blocking the sign outside making it difficult to find the entrance. Once inside our waiter was amazing and overly accommodating to our requests. The only thing that surprised me was how they charged for sparkling water as our waiter repeatedly filled our glasses and kept opening new bottles without asking us, so at the end of the night we owed $20 in water lol!
This is my wife’s favourite restaurant in the city. The food is always stellar, and the cocktails are worth the trip alone. The cocktails tasting menu item is really cool.
The food was amazing. Very creative. Our server was great and explained the menu well.
The improv menu is outstanding and provides fun for a meal out.
Very good food in a great atmosphere.
Got the 3 course surprise meal - terrific appetizer and dessert - main course was bison - a little too rare (very rare) and "beefy" for me
In all, a very good dining experience.
Wonder meal and cocktails. This restaurant would not be out of place in a foodies tour of Calgary.
Aaaaaa awesome. Spendy....but the best meal in town at the high end level.
Staff Xmas Party
Great food, no substitutions needed to make the tasting menu gluten free, awesomewine pairing and killer ambiance.
Love the ambience, the memories of the grand, the restoration and the food is outstanding.
I love the food here, especially the daily braise. Today I took a different tack and tried the fish special (tuna) with a chili sauce. Outstanding. Service was a bit slow to get order placed, which was problematic for my lunch guest who needed to get back to work on time. We should have made our server aware of our time restriction at the start. Once she knew, she was very accommodating. Gosh, lunch was good today.
Have been here a number of times before, each time walked away amazed. This time it was just average. The Chef appeared to try and do too much on each plate, with good food less is more.
Service was OK, not outstanding.
Overall it was OK but not my best experience here.
Awesome as usual!
