Woodside Bakery and Cafe was a wonderful place to go and get Bakery needs and a wonderful Cafe in the Woodside Community. Jan and Mark Sweyer live in the town of Woodside and were only on a month to month lease for the past 15 plus years. That is not how to run a business. George and Christine Roberts should have put them on a yearly lease. Now the town of Woodside is going to have 2 back to back restaurants. Who is going to be the next to leave for the shops in the mall are all on Month to month leases. George and Christine Roberts have bad business reputation. I support Mark and Jan for they have done nothing but contribute to the town of Woodside, and I thank them Kindly for having the Best Bakery and Cafe Woodside could of ever had!
We have frequented Woodside Bakery and Cafe weekly for the past 6 years. Sorry to see it close due to a cruel lost of lease. Mark and Jan, good luck on your future endeavors.
This was my second time here, and the food was once again outstanding! Of note on this trip was the "from the garden" selection (even not being vegetarian, this was amazing!), and the risotto side dish.
A troubling bit of information that came up from a table-mate...they may be closing due to lease negotiations!! Say it isn't so, and that you can come to some kind of agreement that will keep the Woodside Bakery & Cafe open for all to enjoy! I would hate to lose such a community gem! Fingers crossed that the interested parties can come to an agreement, and soon!!
A pretty small but wonderful restaurant! The food was delicious and the suggested wine pairings worked out well.
Cozy, yes. And not exactly cheap. But totally worth it.
Great brunch place. Cinnamon raisin bread is very tasty!
I so hope that the WB finds a way to stay in its current location. It is always a reliable and tasty choice for a meal.
Food items are hit or miss. Sometimes I forget what not to order and leave unsatisfied. My food tonight was just OK. My wife's fish was excellent. We love the melted bree and flatbread with roasted garlic and chutney. Decent wine selection and friendly service keeps us coming back. You should always try to save room for dessert.
We had a last minute change in plans and used Open Table to reserve a table. We were worried as my son is in a wheelchair and we're weren't sure the cafe would be able to accommodate inside.. but they did! Service was great -- love the complimentary pop-overs!!! I would definitely come back.. food was as expected though my toast was a little burnt (would have preferred it if it weren't) but I ate around the burnt pieces. Nice way to spend a Sunday with my family
Woodside must have holes in their head. Why would they mess with an institution that has all kinds of folks looking to get their coffee and snack before biking off into wonderland.
The food and people are incredible. They have been there for 10 years and everyone loves the hangout.
My panini filling was cold, and service was mediocre. The hostesses looked like they had a chip on their shoulder and did not smile at all. The ones cleaning off our tables were the nicest ones. Their house bread and pizza were good though.
The burger was excellent. The place was packed but the hostess was sweet since we did have to wait 1/2 hour for our table. She kept giving us updates Once seated all was perfect. I heard the cafe was closing in January. That would be a shame. Hope the story I heard isn't true.
THe cookies aren't as good....the abeiance is NOISY....and food has gone downhill....and they are losing their lease:-(
What a fun experience! Sitting at the bar is like being in the audience of a cooking show. And then getting to taste the results, which were fabulous!
We both had fish, swordfish the daily special, and the salmon from the menu. Both cooked perfectly. Accompaniments super.
Definitely will come again, if they succeed in negotiating their lease. Rumor has it the landlord is trying to force them out. 😢
We are so very sad to see Woodside Bakery go. We have a lot of memories dining at Woodside Bakery with family & friends. We will surely miss their food and the staff.
I've been there before and it's very warm and some what old fassion. The food is consistant and friendly although it does get a little noise there. I will continue to go there. The resoto scampi is one of our favorites. The pizza is also good
Arrived on time for reservation but they had no tables available except for outside (very cold day), and not all of their outdoor heaters even were working! Then we waited too long for initial contact from waiter, who attention to us was spotty and distracted throughout the experience. The food was only mediocre - the pizza I ordered was billed as mushroom-pesto-truffle but it seemed like mushroom-cheese, didn't detect any truffle or pesto on it whatsoever. Baked cannelloni sauce was pretty good but the filling was boring and bland. Bread was good (as I would expect of a bakery) and I would go back to buy bread there, but never again for a meal.
My wife and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE WOODSIDE BAKERY and have been loyal customers for several years - Roberts Market owns the space and is evicting them in January -
That does not make me want to be a ROBERTS Market customer - I hope this can be worked out ❗️❗️
some things here are really good. (Penne Slyvia) and others I order again. and then wonder why...I had the pot roast which was really just a chunk of meat. not that fall off the bone type..in a beef broth. not gravy..or thicker as what I think of as pot roast. and undercooked vegetables. So I really just had a chunk of meat. They really need to redo this spot and expand or something. The tables inside are awful with people always rushing past and cold air from the patio door. The counter to us is the only spot to eat at. If full we leave .Patio is fine in the summer, until the wasps come. Lunch is good ..and most dinner things.. and we do frequent it often. It just has its little quirks.
Located in Woodside just off 280. Nice patio. Solid menu and good service. Also, a 1st class bakery.
The food can be inconsistant here. Asked for one salmon dish well done, came rare, asked for another rare, came medium cooked through, crab cakes were good.
A bit noisy sitting close to the bar.
Although very noisy it was a wonderful experience! Great food and although the service was slow (the poor guy had MANY tables) it was a wonderful dinner!
I had a pizza & my wife had a burger. We both enjoyed our meal & we really like the bread.
This is not an ordinary bakery/cafe. It is an upscale eatery that happens to have a wonderful, varied bakery, too. The decor in the actual cafe is more Paris bistro than small town diner. There is also a large outdoor seating area appropriate for the good weather in Woodside.
The food was good, with a varied menu - again more Paris than Harris Ranch. If you wander off the beaten path and find horsey Woodside, treat yourself to a treat or good meal.
We met with friends we had not seen in a while. The venue was great for conversation. The sea bass and salmon were very fresh and tasty. The pasta and pizza were equally yummy. I was very happy with the experience.
Veggie scramble looked unappetizing (brown eggs, under-cooked).
They failed to get kid's order correct for french toast first time and second time brought french toast burned and was still incorrect. Beverages were good and so was ambiance, but overall very disappointing $100+breakfast for 3 adults and 3 kids. Would recommend this place for lunch and dinner, but would definitely skip their breakfast.
We sat outside on the patio which is a lovely spot. I had made reservations for the outside deck. Where we sat turned out to be cramped and uncomfortable. Tables were placed way too close for comfort. There was about 9 inches between tables. It was almost impossibl to get into a spot to sit without disturbing the table next to us. Service was very slow and the food was mediocre. Salmon dry and over cooked. A disappointment indeed.
The menu at Woodside Bakery and Cafe is good. The grilled prawn salad special was very good, although three prawns for a main course seemed a little spare. The dessert menu includes tiramisu. We asked the dessert server if it was "traditional tiramisu" and he didn't know -- he didn't understand English very well, and also was not up to speed on the menu. He did go and check and assured us it was traditional tiramisu. It was far from it. He may not have asked the question right, or may not have understood the answer. The "tiramisu" was more like a little slice of vaguely tiramisu-flavored pie. The regular server (different from the one who came to take our dessert order) could have been a little more attentive but otherwise the service was good, our dishes arrived reasonably quickly. I would like to see the restaurant move to asking if diners want water (or bread, for that matter), especially during our protracted drought.
The restaurant can be very noisy when full. My guest and I had to raise our voices to hear each other.
Reservations are recommended (we had one through OpenTable). Most of the tables were reserved. The bakery is convenient if you are inspired to take something home after your meal.
Our visit to the Woodside Bakery was disappointing! We have dined there before and had a pretty good experience each time. On this occasion we booked a table for 8pm, so well before they close. I ordered a particular beer for myself and my son and a glass of wine for my wife, the waiter came back after 5 minutes and said "sorry, we have run out of that beer" So we had something different and then wine, my glass had a lot of sediment in the bottom which was very unpleasant. The main course was ok, but for the desserts they had run out of cream and when I said to the waiter that it was disappointing he said "you shouldn't have come so late!"
I'm sorry, but I don't consider an hour or more before closing to be late!!
Disappointing evening, a shame, usually so good!
The service was a bit slow and the food was mediocre. The noise level was high and the person next to us got stung by a bee. I have had better food there in the past.
So sorry Charlie, this place is getting sloppy. The food is not a winner. Plating uninspired. The service was slow. Chefs not engaging. The noise level deafening and the AC was broken. I'm thinking it will be a long time before returning.
We have been going to the Woodside Bakery consistently for many years now for a very good reason. We love the way they prepare their food. From their pizza, which is exceptional, to their salmon, which is superb, their dishes are carefully well prepared and simply delicious. The service is consistently friendly and professional as well. Moreover, you can get out of there without breaking the bank. The indoor seating is not ideal in that it is somewhat cramped, but that is a small price to pay for an otherwise highly positive dining experience.
I have frequented this restaurant many times over the past 30 years. I had an incredibly bad experience this last time.
We were seated and left alone at least 15 minutes without a server coming by. I had to practically holler to get someone's attention to open the very expensive wine I brought with me. The focaccia was rock hard, the waiter was sullen the entire evening. The entree of salmon was blah. This was to be a special birthday dinner and instead I don't ever want to return. Very very disappointing evening!!!!!
I love this place. The food is great. Service is great. I love sitting on their outdoor patio to enjoy a meal.
We went for breakfast on a Sunday. The food was very good. I love the french toast and my wife loves the Spanish omelet with chorizo. The service was so very slow. We must have waited 45 minutes for our food. And the restaurant was not busy; there were lots of empty tables. We have been here many times in the past when everything was great. They need to get help that speaks English.
We sat outside where it was pleasant bot a bit buggy. Food was good. I had the burger and I think it one of the better burgers on the Peninsula.
We eat here quite a bit as it us usually easy to get in to,booking at the last minute ,the food is pretty good. We do always eat at the bar inside though. The inside part is really not very nice, too close to the service station and severs and people always rushing by on the wAy to the patio. Patio is very nice.today though for lunch they seemed understaffed,.lunch us always busy. We had to flag down our waiter for everything. Quiche is really good BUT...I'm eating the third portion for breakfast. It is ridiculously huge!!! It is seriously three to four regular portions.no wonder Americans are overweight !
We booked a reservation to celebrate Father's Day here. Arrived and was greeted and seated quite promptly. Service was very pleasant and efficient. Love the fabulous "puff" type roll that is brought with the delicious jam to start the meal. I chose the eggs benedict with crab cake and greatly enjoyed it. The potatoes served with it were nicely seasoned and enjoyable as well. My husband had the ham and fresh asparagus frittata which was quite delicious as well and my daughter chose the Berries and Cream crepes with the seasonal berries. Was delicious and not too sweet, really enjoyed tasting this as well. We shared some Applewood bacon on the side as an additional treat. The taste and texture were delightful. Our server kept our drinks full and overall service was delightful. We had a lovely Sunday meal and would definitely recommend eating here which we will certainly do again. We enjoyed this meal at their outdoor patio area in the back just relaxing in the beautiful California weather. Thank you to the Bakery and staff for making our dining experience enjoyable.
We love this restaurant. There is a lot of variety on the menu. The food is good, and the patio is lovely. However, you never know what you're going to get service-wise. We waited 20 minutes for the waiter to come and take our order after sitting down with our menus. After 20 minutes, my husband went to talk to the manager who didn't sound very apologetic but he sent a waiter right away who was very nice and things went swiftly from that point on.
Just what we needed for a (relatively) quiet girls' lunch. Such a respite from restaurants with blaring music. The service was excellent, and the food delicious. A nice sheltered patio or cozier indoor dining options. Easy to find off Hwy 280 in the little town of Woodside. Very nice experience!
We've been dining at Woodside Café for over 4 yrs. Its a casual dining spot close to home with a great selection of American cuisine and wood fired pizza. Their patio offers great outdoor dining and is equipped with a fireplace and heat lamps for cooler evenings. Decent wine list, somewhat overpriced, but there none the less. It wasn't always like this. The front of the restaurant also has a bakery with wonderful pies, cakes and pastries.
