Woods Restaurant & Bar
Professional, knowledgeable staff, food well presented, nice atmosphere.
The food was amazing and the service second to none. We will come back!
Stylish but relaxed spot with tasty and artfully presented food. Service was friendly, well choreographed, and attentive
It was a business dinner for two, on a quiet evening. We were in no rush, but service still took a long time to get going. The menu is interesting and carefully crafted, but we found that the dishes we tried seemed to be trying too hard to be clever and simple. Example: foie gras served on a very nicely toasted slice of bread: but the toast quickly becomes soggy and starts to dilute the foie ... other dishes with items "artfully" scattered on the plate tended to say "disorderly snack" rather than "composed meal". Wine service was also a little odd in that the wine we ordered (a 2007 Brunello) was off. We should have said so immediately, but instead hoped it would improve. Eventually a nice man "nosed" it and said "Yes of course, wine of that age has sometimes lost all its character" ... and that was that.
There were also highlights. I can't recommend their sour dough bread enough; it is first rate. The service was generally friendly and welcoming, with little extras offered along the way. I suspect we just had a series of unlucky breaks. I'd certainly go back to give the kitchen another go.
Tuna was over cooked too much sesame
Outstanding canadian food, decoration and service in a refined ambiance.
I REALLY ENJOYED MY DINNER. IT WAS VERY GOOD. THE WAITERS WERE FABULOUS! I JUST HAVE ONE COMPLAINT. THE WASHROOMS WEREN'T VERY CLEAN.
This place is like a hidden gem! Tucked in on a street within walking distance from the Eatons Centre.
Food: Amazing! The elk was cooked to perfection! Most (if not all) of their food is sourced locally and you can taste the freshness and quality in their food. My friend's oysters (Fanny Bay) were fresh, the foie gras was not too heavy and tuna was cooked perfectly as well. Dessert was wonderful too! Very smooth and not too sweet chocolate mousse. Presentation of the food was great and well balanced!
Service: Amazing! Our server was very friendly, very knowledgable about the menu and the food, kept coming back to check up on us and appeared at perfect timings to clear our plates and place the next dish.
Ambience: like you're in the woods and enjoying a wonderful meal with your companion(s). Noise level was moderate. Wherever you're sitting, you get a woodland atmosphere.
Definitely coming back and have told my friends about this place!
Bathroom was dirty, water inside and outside the bathroom on the floor a bucket outside the bathroom with water. Food was ok but nothing special for the price. Little portions.
The service was pleasant and attentive. The scallops were incredible and the wine list was nice. Unfortunately the rest of the food was lacking. The atmosphere was lovely, but the noise made conversation challenging.
Lisa was lovely.
Had a delicious dinner with top notch service. Definitely recommend for visitors looking for a Canadian restaurant option. Also near the theatre district.
My fiance & I treated ourselves to a nice dinner here. The food was really good & I loved the french cognac martini, the vibe is nice, & the service was excellent. They really went above & beyond.
Love the interior and the food and service are outstanding!
Our waiter was amazing. His energy was great, he put us instantly at ease.
My husband and I are writing this review the morning after visiting this restaurant with our son and the only rating that is not perfect is noise level. The restaurant is a bit loud but lively and cozy and I loved the “Woods” theme throughout. Our waiter offered excellent suggestions from wine to dessert, never hovered, and made us feel well cared for. We got the beet salad, scallop appetizer, elk (a tiche dry for me), duck, and housemade linguine with shiitake mushrooms and tenderloin (this was my entree and I’m still dreaming about it). Our meal was well paced, except our wine glasses were nearly empty at the start of our entrees but our waiter topped off our glasses from the house bottle. An excellent evening and worth every penny!
It was our first time in Toronto and we picked Woods Restaurant for our nice dinner out. We were blown away by the service, the attention to details, the “extras”, and the quality of the food. One of the best dining experiences our family has ever had! Thank you to the chef and staff for extending us a warm Canadian welcome and for providing us with a meal we will long remember.
Excellent food and service! Really enjoyed the menu options. Highly recommend!
The service and the food were fantastic. Very well taken care of when our food took a few minutes extra to get to us. Totally unexpected and not needed. There wasn't that much of a delay, at all
Simply delicious! Lovely ambiance, perfectly prepared food, and knowledgeable wait staff.
Food was good, just good. Part of the meat that I ordered tasted a bit freezer burnt. For a restaurant at this high level, the meat should not taste as if it was found at the bottom of the freezer. It was just a small part of it, that gave me this impression, but it was my first bite.
I booked this restaurant by blind chance. I had just gotten my first job out of school (and paycheck) so I wanted to go somewhere different with my girlfriend. I scrolled through OpenTable and just happened to find an empty reservation for the time I needed.
What a fantastic find! The staff were amazing from the minute we arrived to the minute we left, the food was delicious, and the setting was incredibly comfortable. I would love to go back again!
Great experience. Highly recommend the scallops and the duck breast. The crispy kale side dish was also really good. Service was top notch, will definitely be back.
Excellent service, food was very good...duck was tasty but not as I expected so I was a little disappointed...however my friends ordered halibut and chicken cordon bleu and loved their dinners. My beet salad was also excellent and I had a taste of the carpaccio which was delicious.
Definitely would recommend!!
Booked a table at 8pm on a Thursday night very last minute.
The restaurant was quiet when we entered, about three other parties in the restaurant.
We were initially seated at a bit of an awkward table, but before we could get settled in, our waiter Patrick came by and suggested we take a more comfortable table in the back. This was one of several things Patrick did throughout the night that really showcased his talent for superior hospitality.
Patrick was charismatic and helpful, and seemed to be there just at the exact moment you needed him, without ever interrupting or being overbearing.
All the dishes we had were great: the charcuterie board, elk tartare, the prime beef burger, the roasted duck breast, and the seared elk, accompanied by a very smooth and reasonably priced super tuscan. We ended up finishing our bottle just before our entrees came, and decided a second bottle might have been a bit too much for the evening (we had been out at drinks before), but Patrick, in another outstanding move, came by and refilled our glasses once more on the house to ensure we had something to drink while we ate our main courses.
I would definitely recommend trying Woods, especially if you work or live nearby.
Little difficult to get to but well worth it. Warm atmosphere. Great service and some of the best food I have ever eaten!
Enjoyed a great night at Woods. The service was top notch and the wines were excellent. My wife’s steak was as promised but my chicken cordon blue was a little dry but very tasty. The only drawback on the evening was a large party that was quite loud and greatly took away from the overall experience. We would definitely go back.
Woods is s very pretty place, and its menu sounded interesting. Unfortunately, the food was fine, but not nearly what it could have been. One of the sauces for the oysters , labelled shallot, tasted actively awful, akin to a mix of old bandage and iodine. Ugh. We had a wait of over 30 minutes for the dessert course, likely due to the arrival of a very large party in the meantime. The server did bring glasses of ice wine on the house, but a 30 minute hiatus between courses is not very professional. Overall, I would say this restaurant does not nearly live up to expectation.
We had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant. The food was spectacular with the service to match. It was expensive but the food reflected the value of Canadian farm to table fare. Food restrictions (gluten and dairy) were expertly achieved. We’ll be back!
We had an excelent dining experiences, beet salad, duck, elk and tenderloin were amazing. Deconstructed smore was a de light as well. Service was also smooth, not rushed.
The staff and servers are fabulous and it is because of the wonderful care they take to look after the customers that I rated so high.
We really appreciated our visit. The staff was very kind & professional !
Service was attentive and courteous, surroundings comfortable. Menu interesting for it's "Canadian" theme and lived up to expectation. Apps were great however the Mains took quite a long time to appear so we were comped glasses of vino. Duck and Tuna were VERY rare and small portion - tuna on mash was a bit weird. They then invited us to go to Pravda for a comp drink and see. Owned by same people. No Grey Goose.
Very interesting menu. Something for everyone. Fantastic appetizers. Love the Canadiana slant.
Service and food were impeccable as usual!
From beginning to end this was an exceptional dinner with amazing service. The food came quickly but we didn't feel rushed at all.
My husband and I had an early reservation (5:15) at Woods Restaurant and Bar. This was our first visit and we will definitely be back and will recommend the restaurant to friends. We were pleased at the lovely corner table we were given. The ambiance was great. It felt modern but warm, with large wooden beams and great 1940's-50's music playing softly so as not to be intrusive. Our waiter was very pleasant and attentive. The food was delicious and nicely presented. The whole experience at Woods was a great start to our evening.
Too many mishaps. Had to ask for bread and could not attract waiter's attention for ten minutes. Cordon bleu arrived entirely cold. They took it off the bill, but how can this happen in the first instance? The duck breast and tuna tartar were fine. All in all a disappointment though.
