Woodlot Ratings and Reviews
Regrettably poor service overshadowed an otherwise nice dining experience. Our waitress seemed to have forgotten about us. After an hour of sitting with the drinks and dessert menu, and seeing literally everyone else servers and checked in multiple times, I simply paid the bill (with normal tip) and we left. Kinda mad about myself for tipping properly but didn’t want to make a scene as this was a special event for a friend.
We loved the idea of foraged food ingredients and everything made fresh and from scractch
I was really nice to see how clean the kitchen was and to watch the chefs intermittently as we saw our meal being prepared
The wood oven is a really nice touch
The mushroom salad was a taste bud and texture sensation
I had the duck confit and very very tender
My husband had the steak -- done to perfection
Thanks for a wonderful experience
We shared the ember grilled mushroom dish and the leek tart. Crisp mushrooms on a delicious bed of crunchy black rice, hints of beet and generous fresh dill made for a stand out dish. The leek tart had a nice, buttery puff pastry with beautifully caramelized leeks. The basket of sourdough bread with butter was a fabulous treat, too. Great vegetarian fare.
The 'Spelt Cavatelli and Little Neck Clams' was the standout dish. Beautiful atmosphere. Great cocktails. Also had the sea bass and leg of duck and they were both excellent. We are able to dine here often because the menu is always changing. Pasta was homemade.
The restaurant itself is gorgeous with lots of character, and some of the food we had was excellent (the bavette, for instance, was cooked perfectly and full of flavour), but several of the dishes were salty to the point of being inedible, and the service was really lacklustre. I'd been meaning to try Woodlot for years after hearing nothing but good things, and it was just kind of disappointing overall.
This place was absolutely excellent. I seriously would consider this as one of the most enjoyable and delicious food experiences I've ever had.
Service was excellent. Ambiance was cozy and not very loud.
Completely loved the entire evening and will be back again.
The Mushrooms were amazing, my French onion soup was delish, proving that you don't need beef broth to make a wonderful onion soup. My Fish entree was great and my girlfriend's vegetarian entree was great for her. she also VERY MUCH appreciates a restaurant that will go out of the way to print a separate vegetarian menu. Cheesecake dessert not so great and I personally found it a bit warm (temperature)
Overall it scores high and is worth going back to again
Second time and really not as good as the first. French onion soup is apparently a favorite, but it was one dimensional with a Campbell's broth sort of flavour. Pasta dish was not good at all, mushy undifferentiated goop. Felt like I'd picked poorly from the small menu, but no one in the party thought their food was anything special. Waitress was strange. Not that interested in serving? We had to request second drinks, long after the first expired. Not impressed and we expected to be after a great first meal about a year ago.
Woodlot was perfect to celebrate my graduation. The starters and pastas were AMAZING! I would definitely recommend the grougeres (but definitely to share!) and the sweet corn agnolotti. The table was less excited about the roast chop of pork. Overall, it was warm and inviting with great service.
Just a heads up, there are a few steps down to the washrooms and a full flight of stairs up to the main dining area so it’s not very accessible if you have mobility limitations.
