Extremely professional staff! (Someone savvy with a similar concept should poach the entire FOH/BOH team!). Menu was absent. Lighting was dim at best. Wine list was barren. Beer was out of stock. No one greeted us on arrival or bid farewell to us upon departure. **This review is intentionally in poor taste. The honest truth is that this restaurant went bankrupt, closed, and fired all their staff without notice. They didn’t even take the time to close their Open Table account. They did not inform any of their patrons of the closure, or their future reservations either - just ghosted.

Woodlot has recently changed its menus and is very “bread heavy”. In previous visits, there were meat options and veggie sides available. Now, there are breads, pizzas and pastas. Very few items without gluten if this is a problem for anyone in your party.

I went to Woodlot 3 years ago with friends and it was a great experience all round. Fast forward 3 years later and we had a polar opposite experience. We were sat in a corner on stools not quite at the bar but on a high table which was not made for diners - we had a view of the coat rail and nothing else. The bread was stale and our pastas were lukewarm and a bit raw. For such poor quality it is incredibly over priced! One of my friends commented that the packeted pasta they had earlier in the week was far better. They had one item on the dessert menu, ONE ITEM! Crazy!! I asked for an espresso martini which wasn't on their cocktail menu but they offered to make it anyway....it was woeful. SUPER disappointed, it was so good a few years ago. What happened?!!

Food was great. Service was terrible. Staff disappeared and did not bother to refill water, take a second drink order or bring the bill. After waiting a long time, we found them drinking behind the bar.

I was here before and the menu was much more varied. I was very disappointed. They were out of wines and the beer recommended was really sweet fruity terrible with the minute portions of pasta. Flavourful food but not worth the visit.

I used to think Woodlot was my favorite restaurant in Toronto, but after my experience on Friday - I would have to say they don't deserve this status. I specifically asked for a spot upstairs in my reservation and they made us sit in a spot where I had to wear my winter jacket all night during valentines day. When i approached the host/floor manager - he wasn't flexible - I arrived 5 minutes early for my reservation and noticed people who came in after me were seated in the spot that I had requested. All that the floor manager needed to do was ask me to wait a few minutes which he didn't - the overall experience was extremely frustrating and not worth any penny let alone the tips I still gave them. Sorry Woodlot, you need to do better. A Frustrated Guest Vik.

Wanted to go back since hearing the menu had changed, but was extremely disappointed. First, we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. The staff seemed to be short handed and running around in utter chaos - they were short and patronizing when speaking to us. Then, while the first courses were fine, it took nearly two hours after we sat down to get our entrees, which were inedible. Apparently the kitchen had to remake our marinara pizza because they screwed it up the first time - not sure how you can’t get that right. The pork loin was gross. Why changes were made to what was once a top resto in the city, I have no clue. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I won’t be going back for a long time, if ever. Sad.

Overall just disappointed with the service. Server didn't seem to want to be there and made no effort to create a good experience for us. The food was pretty average. Steak was covered in a sauce similar to an au jus that just took away from any dry-aging flavor it could have had.

Great for sharing!! There was 5 of us and we shared many different menu items. Everything was delicious. The ravioli was our favourite pasta, the Tortellini pasta was our least favourite. The pork and steak were tender and tasty. We we enjoyed the veggie sides.

Pizza was dry and overcooked. The dessert, a balsamic chocolate cake option, was also very dry and not very tasty. The pasta portion was quite small so two of us were still hungry at the end of the meal despite sharing an appetizer and two desserts. Menu has changed to be more Italian. I miss the more Canadiana menu!

The pizza I had was burned. I am pretty aware of what wood oven pizza is supposed to taste like and I know char is expected. But the crust was so burned it tasted like eating coals. It was a busy Saturday night, but it still took an hour for the food to arrive. Friendly service and the ambiance is adorable and romantic but beyond that, pretty disappointing.

Our first visit to Woodlot was based on a friend's recommendation - and it didn't disappoint. If anything, the quality of food and service but especially the overall value made the experience outstanding for us. It was my boyfriend's birthday and we felt that the staff went above and beyond to surprise us in subtle ways (thankfully, no TGIF-style singing here, lol) like bringing out our dessert with a lit candle, totally unprompted but much appreciated. They even welcomed us with a sparkling wine toast upon arrival, arranged by my mother all the way home in Ireland, who mentioned how lovely the staff had been over the phone. Even the music playing was on-point. We are already looking for another excuse to return. Thank you to all at Woodlot for a fabulous experience.

Woodlot has a small dining room with tables very close together and the noise level is beyond "energetic"; it is NOISY. We were a party of three with a reservation at 8PM and were placed in the middle of the room, somehow exacerbating the noise. When we asked about an empty table on the side, and apparently somewhat removed from the din, we were told it was held for parties of four or five (it was set for four). About half an hour later three people walked in and were seated at the table in question. Needless to say, having asked to move there ourselves, we were annoyed, and again spoke with the hostess. She said the party was supposed to be five, but a couple of the group were no shows. Had she been more gracious about it we might have been more forgiving, but she was actually on the confrontational side. I have learned that if you are hoping for a quieter table at Woodlot, and you are only three friends, book for five anyway and claim some of your group dropped out. But mostly I have learned not even to bother with Woodlot. There are plenty of good restaurants in the area, most with nicer staff.

I love the cozy ambience of the place provided by wood-burning oven. The food was very tasty but there were a few key flaws with service and delivery. It took a long time for the server to take our drink order. We were a party of 4 but 2 of us arrived before the rest of the party and it wasn't until then that our drink orders were taken. We would have liked to order a drink while we were waiting. 2 of us ordered a different pasta for our mains and each one was served on a large flat plate, which is absolutely the wrong vessel. It made the order of cappelletti seem incredibly small because all you could see on the plate was a huge empty space relative to the number of cappelletti. A creative attempt at plating gone wrong. The order of trofie also appeared meager on the plate, with no lip to help you pick up the noodles with your fork. Once it was served, there was no offer of fresh-cracked pepper, and the server never came back to check on us until 1 of us was already done eating. These flaws aside, it was still an enjoyable experience

We went here for our first wedding anniversary - although they accommodated us for being late, they had not bother checking that we had mentioned a special occasion in our reservation. The servers were just nice enough to not call them rude, but they could not handle the volume. After we finished dinner, we asked for our check because no one even told us that there is a dessert menu, and when I pointed that out, the server said sorry it got hectic - no, you didn't pay attention. It is part of your process to ask for dessert, if you don't do it, the guest will assume that there is none. The food was great, but the service just could not live up to it - they were both overwhelmed and uninterested.

my 3 x 3 ranking (3 good and 3 improvement) The good - Hands down the French Onion Soup. Excellent. The mushroom, wild rice beet salad also very good. Both dishes had great flavours. The woman who served us. (friendly, etc) Opportunities, Chicken and bacon dish overly salty. Remember the bacon already gives the chicken quite a bit of salt flavour, not much more needs to be added. Sauce on steak is a bit much and please get another credit card machine. Excessive waits when only one in the house. Lastly, (maybe its just me) but the layout made me uneasy. 40+ guests are elevated and towards the back. The one stairway to get down is quite a ways from the lone exit out and it is close to a large indoor oven.
