Woodcliff Hotel & Spa - Horizons Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
The waiter was great. The ambiance was wonderful. Unfortunately, my mashed potatoes were only slightly warm and getting hard. My husbands whole meal was actually cold (the lamb with mashed potatoes). The only thing we can think of is that there was a large party and our meals sat for a while. We were a bit disappointed.
My salmon and my wife's halibut were excellently prepared. The serving size left enough room for dessert, even after we had started with the excellent lobster bisque. Desserts were good, but pricey ($16 for a slice of the multi-layered peanut butter cake with chocolate). Service was by two waiters - one swift and efficient, and one slower. The non-wait staff stepped in to fill our wine glasses and ask how we were enjoying the meal. The view was beautiful of the setting sun.
Not as good as on prior occasions. Service was terribly slow- we had to wait 25 minutes for our bill and credit card to be picked up and only then when I flagged down another server. The food came fairly quickly, but two of us had salads of very small proportions, given the prices. I will return for the view and convenience to my work place, but service needs to be improved.
The lobster bisque was excellent as always. A larger portion would be nice. The mashed potatoes were tasteless. The steak was very good and cooked correctly. The vegetable choices were poor. The service was good but not a great as usual. This is a great restaurant, just a bit overpriced and lacking in menu depth and originality.
The drink order did not come out for a half hour and we received soups at the same time. One Horizons Chef Salad was completely forgotten about and it was for an entree. It took the waiter so long to come back to check on things, we did without the salad and that person ate the leftover of a childs order of pasta. Seasoning in the ministrone soup and in the childs pasta was overwhelming. The steak and potatoes were good. Eggplant rollatini was not.
The server was very friendly and we really enjoyed him despite the poor dining experience. The Woodcliff is a beautiful venue that we love and the live music keeps us coming back. But we do feel the kitchen needs some help.
Awesome place to view sunset and city lights. Excellent steak. Inquired about and they accommodated substituting sides. Great personalized service by Dan our waiter and entire staff. Made our Anniversary celebration very special. Definitely highly recommend.
We came here for our 29th Anniversary; started with drinks at the bar, followed by dinner in the restaurant. Service was attentive without being rushed or overbearing. The meal was very very good; for starters, we shared the Cheese and Charcuteriie plate, she had the Woodcliff Caesar followed by the 6 OZ Tenderloin. I had the Chicken Gnocchi soup and the 10oz Top Sirloin. Both were cooked to temp and very good. We then headed back to bar to listen to a four-piece jazz group and have an after-dinner cocktail. We had a very enjoyable evening.
Very nice venue; great service; excellent menu selection. The lobster bisque soup was delicious; NY strip perfectly medium, as ordered; Brussels Sprouts seared nicely; but the plate was cool, as were the mashed potatoes running diagonally between the steak and sprouts.
Have eaten dinner and lunches many times at Horizons. And, my wife and I were always satisfied and really enjoyed the food and service. Not this time. I had taken my family of five there Friday evening. All our meals were just so so but not worth the price. I would guess that maybe they have a different Chief or they are cutting corners but none of us thought it was very good.
The service wasn't very good as well. It was okay but not the polish and style of the past. Clearly different.
If they are going to continue with this type of food and service, they will need to greatly drop their prices and then maybe survive but it then puts them in a way different market.
Were celebrating 90th birthday with client...loved the table with a great outside view near fireplace, everyone friendly, and the birthday surprise dessert (Chocolate Mousse with Raspberries) brought to the table by our server was wonderful! Our lunch Salads (Cobb Salad and Sante Fe) were delicious and the Mediterranean flatbread dish was tasty. Made for a special treat for our client.
The food over all was good , the lobster bisque was outstanding. We were a table of four and we all ordered the 10 ounce sirloin steaks. Two out of the four steaks were over cooked. The waitress did offer to return them. We opted not to do this as it would mean some of us would be eating without the others, which makes for an awkward dinner. Also did not feel for the price the quality of the steaks was up to what we expected in terms of tenderness and flavor compared to other restaurants of this caliber. This was a special birthday celebration and for the price the overall experience did not meet our expectations. We have been here for Sunday brunch many times and loved it. We last had dinner here about two years ago and the food was excellent. We do not mind paying a little more for quality food but this was a disappointment and I can not say I would return for dinner any time soon. We love the view and the fireplace in the dinning room.
Sunday Brunch - food was okay to good, but nothing special. All the usual brunch items, omelets, carving station, etc. Selection seemed more limited than when we were there a year ago. Don't know if there has been a change in chef.
Service was fair. Took a while for our waiter to come by when we were first seated, even though there very few full tables and plenty of staff milling about. Dirty dishes weren't cleared efficiently. Went up second time and old dishes still on table.
Did not feel the quality or selection was worth the $29. each. But they have a captive clientele given that the restaurant is attached to an upscale hotel.
I like the Horizons restaurant for its great view and convenient location however I felt that the price is outrageously expensive. Prices were overpriced by at least double. It seemed as though the prices are artificially high because the hotel guests are a captive audience. Overall the service is very good but again, $175 for 4 people who ordered only entree's, 2 side dishes, and only one glass of wine is outrageously high for this level of restaurant.
Atmosphere was the best element of this dining experience. The hotel bar adjacent had a jazz quartet playing and it added just the right level of ambiance to the evening. They seated us in the back by the windows, as we requested a quieter spot, and it was perfect distance to enjoy the music without it overpowering the conversation. By the fireplace would have been a nice touch as well.
Food was solidly prepared and enjoyable, if not the best we'd ever had of anything. (We had the Lobster Bisque and Cream of Mushroom soup, strawberry and goat cheese salad, and rock shrimp risotto.) Wine was superb. (We tried two different Sauv Blanc and found one we particularly enjoyed.) Service was well-timed, courteous, and gentile. Value was moderate.
Very classy restaurant with great ambiance. The sun set view is the best in the area. The service is one of the best. Our servers wicked on us a number of times but yet we're not over bearing. Our food was very good and well presented. The lobster bisque is very good and with trying. Drinks are very well prepared and certainly generous in its portions.
